S9 Files Disappearing From MicroSD Card

Problem: Hi.  Over the past month I have purchased and returned 6 SAMSUNG EVO 256GB MICRO SD CARDS.  Yes, SIX. LOL. All cards were purchased on eBay from SIX DIFFERENT SELLERS. I am attempting to transfer music and videos from MACBOOK PRO to the phone, using AFT.  Some folders (with music) transfer nicely no problems. Some videos transfer nicely no problem. Some media transfer with no problem and then 20 minutes later (or even a day later) all of a sudden that video or music is gone. DIRECTORY IS EMPTY. This has happened on ALL 6 of my SD cards, without fail.  LOL… Again, in, the media transfers and is there. I play it. Then…GONE. I have used MX PLAYER, VLC, and BS PLAYER, thinking maybe the player itself was at fault, but nope. I’ve been using 256GB cards in phones for several years, with the occasional glitch, but THIS IS CRAZY, NO??? Any thoughts?

Solution: It looks like the problem is caused by an issue with the phone. To troubleshoot this you should backup your phone data then do a factory reset. Once the reset is complete do not install any apps in your phone yet. Try to check first if the issue still occurs. In case it doesn’t then the problem could be caused by a software glitch. In case the issue persists then I suggest that you have this checked at a service center.

S9 This Device Does Not Support This SD Card Error

Problem: My Samsung Galaxy S9 told me I had no storage space and so I used Device Maintenance to clear unnecessary files etc, then moved some large apps like Facebook onto SD card instead of internal  storage. I’ve done this many times with no issues. However now I’m seeing a notification that “This device doesn’t support this SD card.” How can I retrieve the data on the card as the only option when I click is to reformat. Thanks

Solution: The first thing that you need to do in this particular case is to turn off the phone then remove the microSD card. Clean the metal contacts of the SD card using a pencil erases. Once this is done reinsert the card back to the phone. Make sure that the card is properly seated. Turn on the phone then check if the issue still occurs.

In case the issue persists then you should try placing a new microSD card on the phone. In case the issue does not occur with the new card then your old card might be corrupted. Insert the card to your computer then copy the data stored in the card. Format the card once you have made a backup copy of the card data.

In case the issue still occurs even with the new microSD card installed in the phone then this is most likely caused by a software glitch. You will need to backup your phone data then do a factory reset to fix this problem.

S9 Photos Transferred To microSD Card Are Corrupted

Problem: I put a SD card into my phone yesterday and transferred all my photos over to the sd card. Now when i click on my gallery its not letting me view any of them? It just comes up with an exclamation mark and a grey background? I really need to get these photos back as they are all my baby photos of my 8 week old son. Please help, thanks.

Solution: The best thing that you can do right now is to remove the card form your phone then connect the card to your computer. You will need to use a card reader to do this. Open the file manager program of your computer then browse to the folder in the microSD card that has the photos stored. If you can see the photos then I suggest that you make a backup copy on your computer. Once this is done you should format the microSD card then try using it in your phone again. In case the photos can’t be accessed then they are most likely corrupted already. You can try using a data recovery software such as Recuva to recover the photos.

S9 Cannot Read microSD Card

Problem: Hi, S9 with Sandisk Micro SD card. Card has been working fine for weeks. Just stopped working all of a sudden. Phone now says to re-insert the card (even though it’s in the slot). I’ve turned phone on/off, taken card out/in. Tried reading MicroSD in computer using adapter, computer responds that I need to insert a disk. This is not the first time that this has happened with a MicroSD card and this phone. Are MicroSD cards just built poorly and die for no reason, or is phone the source of the problem? Thanks for your help!

Solution: If the card can’t be read even by the computer then it might already be corrupted. The best thing to do right now is to get a new microSD card.
