S9+ Edge Lighting Not Working

Problem: I have Galaxy S9+ that no longer displays the edge lighting. I have tried many sources to fix this to no avail. A Samsung chat person downloaded an edge app that does activate the lighting when setting up the parameters of the app but the lighting will not activate when triggered from the phone cues.

Solution: The first thing you will need to do in this case is to make sure that the edge lighting feature of the phone is turned on.

  • Go to the phone Settings
  • Scroll down to find Display and then navigate to the Edge screen
  • Press the  switch at the top of the screen to enable it.
  • Under the Show Edge Lighting tab, make sure that Always is selected.

If edge lighting is already on then the next step is to make it visible.

  • Go back to the Edge Lighting menu from Settings – Display – Edge screen.
  • Scroll down to the Advanced settings then open it.
  • On the sliders for Width and Transparency setting, you can change the Edge Lighting display and preview it right away.

Try turning off the “Keep Screen Turned Off” feature as this might cause a conflict with edge lighting.

  • Go to the phone Settings
  • Scroll down to find Display and then navigate to Keep screen turned off.
  • Make sure that the switch right next to it turned off.

In case the issue still persists then try to check if a new software update is available as this could be caused by a glitch by your current phone software. You should also consider doing a factory reset as this might fix the problem. Make sure to backup your phone data before doing the reset.

S9+ How to Recover Data When Screen Is Black

Problem: My Galaxy S9 plus was dropped face down. The glass did not break but gradually, the screen went dark as the LCD leaked out. The screen is still touch responsive but black. I am able to unlock it by connecting a keyboard. Unfortunately USB debugging was not enabled and so although the computer recognizes the phone, it will not allow access to files or settings. Smart switch was installed but can’t be accessed without a screen. All I want are the texts and photos. The automatic back-up failed and so there is no other record of them. {I have just purchased another phone and interestingly, the back-up fails on that as well.} The Samsung cloud account was unresponsive and so I changed the password. It now opens but the data is not there and there is also no way to change the password in the screenless phone so trying to make it back-up now is not an option. Do I have any options here besides paying an absurd amount to repair it just to get the data? The pictures are irreplaceable.

Solution: If the screen of the phone is black and you are unable to access the device even with Smart Switch then you won’t be able to retrieve the data stored in the phone. If it is the display alone that is damaged then the best thing you can do is to have the display assembly of the phone replaced. Once this is done you will be able to access your phone data.

S9+ Screen Is Black After Playing Music

Problem: yesterday i was listening to music on my Samsung Galaxy S9+ phone the i left it for twenty minute when the phone was ringing i try picking it up but the screen was complete black. I’ve tried doing a soft reset for 10 second but its still black and i try starting the phone in recovery mode still happen and i could not even see any bootloop showing up it’s just a complete black.

Solution: The first thing you will need to do in this case is to make sure that the battery of the phone has sufficient charge. Charge the phone first for at least 20 minutes using a wall charger. In case you don’t see the charging indicator then proceed with the steps listed below.

  • Clean the charging port of the phone using a can of compressed air. Make sure to remove any dirt or debris stuck in the port.
  • Charge the phone using a different charging cord and wall charger. You should also check if the phone can charge from a computer USB port.

Once the battery has sufficient charge then do a soft reset. This is done by pressing and holding both power and volume down buttons for at least 10 seconds. Ideally, the phone should start after this.

In case the above steps fails to fix the problem then you should bring the phone to a service center and have it checked.

S9+ Screen Is Black After Drop

Problem: Hello, I have no actual problem with the phone working as it should.  It’s a Samsung Galaxy S9+. I dropped it a few days ago and the screen was still working but had a black cloud where the crack on the screen happened.  This cloud spread to cover the whole screen so now it is completely black. I bought a new screen that I planned on installing myself once I get it in the mail.  After some research I’m finding out that maybe this is more than just the screen. Being that it still vibrates for notifications and if I could see the screen has no issues.  Can I just fix the screen and it will work or the fact that the screen is black indicate that I have a deeper issue?

Solution: When the screen becomes black after dropping the phone and the notifications still work then there’s a big possibility that only the display has been damaged. Replacing the display assembly will fix the problem. It is however best to have the display assembly replaced at a service center since if there are other components that got damaged by the drop the technician will be able to check it.
