Note 5 Battery Drains Fast

Problem: I have a Samsung galaxy note 5. 1. my phone battery drains very fast and whilst charging the phone I can feel my phone getting very hot. 2. I keep having a lot of popup ads how can I stop this without deleting all my apps etc. 3. My phone lags and very slow at responding sometimes. My keypad freezes from time to time? I have had my phone since it had been launched an don’t want to get of it just yet. Can you help?

Solution: One factor that can affect the way how fast the battery drains on the phone is if there are certain apps that are running using up your processor power. This affects your battery life. Since you are also having issues with popup ads and the phone operating slowly then the first thing to do in this case is to check if the problem is software related by following the troubleshooting steps listed below.

  • Start the phone in Safe Mode. Does the battery still drain fast in this mode? If it doesn’t then it could be caused by an app you downloaded. Find out what app this is and uninstall it.
  • Wipe the cache partition of the phone from the recovery mode.
  • Backup your phone data then do a factory reset.

In case the above steps fails to fix the battery drain issue then it’s very likely that the phone battery will need to be replaced. You should have this done at a service center.

Note 5 Is Not Charging

Problem: I plugged my galaxy Note 5 in to charge as normal last night – it was down to approx 12% battery. When I went to get it later it was down to 3% battery. I plugged it in again and a green flashing light came on at bottom centre of screen and battery charge was going down again. Phone also would not turn on. I did a search and found instructions to do a reboot – I tried this and it started ok but then closed down before it was completed.

Related Problem:  The phone will only charge for a minute or two and then stops charging. I’ve tried cleaning the port, changing the chargers, using a wall charger and a laptop, and nothing fixes the problem. I’ve reset the phone multiple times and nothing is working.

Solution: It looks like the battery of your phone is not effectively being charged  by the charger. To fix this problem you should follow the troubleshooting steps listed below.

  • Clean the charging port of the phone using a can of compressed air. Carefully inspect the port making sure that any dirt or debris stuck in it has been removed.
  • Charge the phone for at least 20 minutes using a wall charger. If the phone does not charge then try using a different charging cord and wall charger. You should also try charging the phone from a computer USB port.
  • Turn on the phone by pressing and holding both power and volume down buttons for at least 10 seconds.

If the above steps doesn’t work then you should consider starting the phone in recovery mode then doing a factory reset in this mode. Take note that this will erase your phone data. If the problem still persists then you should have this checked at a service center.

In case the phone still does not turn on the try accessing the recovery mode then from here do a factory reset. Take note that this will erase your phone data.

If the above steps fails to fix the problem then you will have to bring the phone to a service center and have it checked.
