Why doesn’t my Galaxy watch turn on when I look at it?
One of the useful features of the Samsung Galaxy Watch 5 is that the watch’s home screen turns on when you look at it. This is a convenient way of viewing your smartwatch’s screen without even pressing its buttons to wake up the display.
Sometimes though the wake-up gestures will fail to work. Here’s what you need to do to fix this problem.
Solution 1: Make sure the wake-up gesture feature is enabled
The first thing you will need to do is to make sure that the wake gesture feature of your Samsung Galaxy Watch is enabled. you can do this from your watch settings screen.
Turn on wake up gestures
On the watch, navigate to and tap Settings.
Tap Advanced or Device.
Turn on Wake-up gesture.
Solution 2: Turn off the silent modes
The Wake-up gestures of your Samsung Galaxy Watch 5 will automatically be disabled if any of the silent modes are enabled. The silent modes of your Samsung Galaxy Watch include Do not disturb, Theater mode, Good night mode, and Water lock mode.
Turning off silent modes
From your Samsung Galaxy Watch Home screen, press the Home key (Power key).
Swipe down the Status panel from the top of the watch’s screen.
Make sure the Do not disturb, Theater mode, Good night or Bedtime mode, and Water lock mode icons are turned off.
If the mode(s) does not appear in the Status panel, access the Advanced menu from the Galaxy Wearable app on your phone to turn off the switch next to the silent mode(s)
Solution 3: Turn off power saving mode of Samsung Galaxy Watch 5
If the power saving mode of your Samsung Galaxy Watch is enabled, then you won’t be able to use the wake gesture. When this feature is enabled the displays colors on the screen as grey tones. All features are disabled except emergency call (when using the mobile network model), and only the notifications from Apps that do not need a mobile network connection will be available. However, phone, messaging, and notifications are available when the Galaxy Watch is connected to a mobile device via Bluetooth.
Make sure that this mode is turned off.
Turning off power saver mode
Tap Settings on the Apps screen.
Tap Battery.
Turn off power saving by tapping it.
Solution 4: Restart the Samsung Galaxy Watch 5
Sometimes a software glitch will cause the Galaxy Watch 5 wake gestures to fail. To fix this you should try to do a restart. When you restart your watch, it refreshes its operating system and removes any corrupted temporary data that could be causing the problem.
Restart
Press and hold the Power button and Back button for approximately 7 seconds or until the watch power cycles.
Your Samsung watch should start rebooting.
Once the Reboot is complete, your Samsung watch should start up as normal.

Back up data on the internal memory.

Press the Power key three times quickly until the Select REBOOT MODE screen displays.
Press the Power key several times to highlight ‘ Recovery’.
Press and hold the Home key for three seconds to select, until the Galaxy Watch begins rebooting.
Solution 6: Contact the Samsung service center
If the problem persists, then this could already be caused by a faulty hardware component. You will need to have your Galaxy Watch checked at a service center.
