S5 Rainbow Screen Of Death
Problem: Frequent ‘Rainbow screen of death’ since update to 6.01. The corruption sometimes completely locks the screen down that the whole phone needs a reset. Otherwise it partially corrupts the app (e.g. the symbol for vibrate/loud at the top of the screen becomes ‘rainbow’ corrupted whilst all other parts of the screen are normal). I noticed this occurred once or twice with the previous update (Lollipop) but disappeared/didn’t occur again until now.
Solution: Since this issue occured right after the Marshmallow update I highly recommend that you backup your phone data first then do a factory reset. This allows you to eliminate any old data that could still be in the phone. This old data usually causes a conflict with the new software version. Once the reset is done do not install anything in your phone yet. Try to check first if the rainbow screen of death still occurs. If it does then you should have this checked at a service center as this might be caused by a problem with the display.
S5 Screen Went Blank
Problem: so this morning my screen went blank after literally about an hour after i set it down on a table after using it normally. so when i found this i did the usual google search. took the battery out and replaced it to reset it didn’t work i then tried the take the battery out and hold the power key for a minute which still didn’t work so i came across this site and read all the way down and nothing works. the LED still flashes it still charges the notification, ringtone and vibrate all still work and i can recieve calls and im pretty sure i can still use the touch screen i just can’t see what i’m doing
Solution: If the notifications work but you can’t see anything on the screen then the issue could be caused by a faulty display. One troubleshooting step that you can do in this case is to start the phone in recovery mode. If the display works in this mode then I recommend that you do a factory reset as the problem might just be software related. Take note that your phone data will be deleted when you do a reset. If the screen is still blank even in recovery mode then you should bring your phone to a service center and have it checked.
S5 Screen Black After Phone Dropped
Problem: Hi, I’ve been having problems with my phone that are getting me worried. 2 days ago i’ve dropped my phone on the screen on the flat ground. It only started acting up yesterday (1 day after the drop) when i try switching on my phone the screen stays black and the back and recent apps buttons switch on only. When i power it on the samsung logo etc shows very faintly and it shows as if it’s red. I have tried everything but nothing works. I am scared that if i repair it will cost me as much as a new one. Please help me i really need your help. Thanks for your patience and assistance
Related Problem: Dropped phone. Upper left corner of phone slightly nicked. No screen image…totally black. Phone rings, symbols lights at bottom do come on. Message indicator comes on.
Related Problem: i was on my phone playing around with my cousin then i dropped my phone on a carpet floor then a few hours later the screen when blank when i took out the battery and put it in back the screen was still blank and especially my glass screen is broken
Solution: If you dropped your phone recently then chances are the black screen issue you are experiencing is caused by the drop. Try starting your phone in recovery mode and check if the same issue occurs. If it doesn’t then I recommend that you do a factory reset. Take note that your phone data will be erased in the process. If the screen is still black even in recovery mode then you will need to have the phone checked at a service center. A display assembly usually costs $200 so you have to take this into consideration when you have the phone repaired.
S5 Screen Is Jumpy
Problem: The screen is jumpy, mostly up & down. While looking through your site through the list of troubleshooting issues the screen eventually became “stuck” where it would not scroll any longer. The screen would start to go down as My thumb dragged on the screen & then would snap back as if a rubber band were holding it in place on the specific part of the webpage.
Solution: You will need to verify first if this problem is caused by a glitch in the phone software by backing up your phone data then doing a factory reset. Observe if the phone if the issue still occurs. If it does then this is most likely a hardware problem already possibly caused by a damaged display. I recommend that you have this checked at a service center if this is the case.
S5 Flickering Green
Problem: The bottom half of my screen flickers green lines when locking or unlocking the screen and also just randomly. Have rebooted phone and still having the issue
Solution: Try checking first if an app installed in your phone is causing this issue by starting your phone in Safe Mode. When the phone is operating in this mode only the pre-installed apps are allowed to run. Check if the issue occurs in this mode. If it doesn’t then it’s most likely caused by an app you downloaded. Find out what app this is and uninstall it. If the issue still occurs even in Safe Mode then proceed with doing a factory reset. Make sure to backup your phone data before doing the reset. Once the reset is done do not install anything in your phone yet. Try to check first if the issue still occurs. If it does then have this checked at a service center.
