S3 Turns Off After Startup

Problem: Bought spare battery and now when I turn on after full start up, phone shuts off. Battery at 85%. Pls help need my phone back.

Solution: Since the battery has 85% charge then we can isolate this as the cause of the problem for now. Let’s concentrate first on your phone software. Try wiping the cache partition of your phone first and see if this solves the issue.

  • Press and hold the Power/Lock key, tap Power off, and then tap OK to turn off the tablet.
  • Press and hold the Power/Lock key and Up Volume key at the same time.
  • Release the Power/lock key when the Samsung logo appears.
  • Release the Up Volume keys when the Android image appears.
  • When the menu appears, press the Down Volume key to select Wipe cache partition.
  • Press the Power/Lock key.
  • Once the message, “Cache wipe complete” appears on the screen below the menu, Press the Power/Lock key to select Reboot system now

If the issue persists then I recommend doing a factory reset. Take note that you should only do this if you have made a backup of your phone data as this will be deleted in the process.

  • Turn off the device.
  • Press and hold the following three buttons at the same time: Volume Up key, Home key, Power key
  • When the phone vibrates, let go of the Power key but continue to press and hold the Volume Up key and the Home key.
  • When the Android System Recovery screen appears, release the Volume Up and Home keys.
  • Press the Volume Down key to highlight ‘wipe cache partition.’
  • Press the Power key to select and wipe the cache.
  • With ‘reboot system now’ highlighted, press the Power key to restart the device.

If the problem still persists then this may already be a hardware related issue. Try using another battery and if this doesn’t help then bring your phone to an authorized service center for further checking.

S3 Not Turning On After Flashing Software

Problem: I was resetting the phone to it’s factory setting, I went through the basics steps using the phone Menu. During the factory Reset it came up with an Error of cant mount data, when it restarted it stayed on the Samsung Logo Screen. Did some research and decided to flash the phone since it seemed the OS files got corrupted. Downloaded Kies, placed the phone on Download mode and left it alone to do its thing. When the process finished it restarted and went into an installation screen where the bar keeps going up. Then it shut off. Now it won’t turn on at all. And if I take the battery out and plug it to the cable it just vibrates. What should I do to fix this?

Solution: It looks like the phone is bricked. Try removing the battery as well as the microSd card of your phone. Press and hold the power button for at least a minute then reinsert the battery. Turn on your phone and check if the issue is resolved.

If the problem persists then try to do another round of emergency firmware recovery using Kies. If that fails then you will need to reflash your phone using Odin. You will need the exact firmware of your phone as well as a program called Odin installed in your computer to do this. Detailed instructions on how to go about doing this can be found a several of the popular Android forums online.

S3 Battery Drains Quickly

Problem: It doesn’t hold charge and drains quickly.I hardly use my phone which has 2-3 apps downloaded in it. I have cleaned the charging port, formatted it, changed the battery and charger and the service centre people don’t have any answer to this. I also have Grand which has the same problem. Please help. Thank you!

Solution: Does the issue still exists right after a factory reset? If it does and you are already using a new battery and charger then there’s definitely a problem. How quickly does your battery drain? If it is in a span of minutes then the issue may be hardware related. If it is in a span of hours then try to check your phone settings and turn off any unused services. These includes bluetooth, Wi-Fi, mobile, data, GPS, etc. You should also check your phone battery usage statistics by going to Apps – Settings- Battery. Take a look at what is using up most of your battery life and take action based on this data.

S3 Does Not Turn On

Problem: I can’t power on my phone.  It was fully charged and “asleep” but when I went to turn it on, it wouldn’t.  The green light is flashing though.  Please help me.

Solution: Try taking out the battery then press and hold the power button for a minute. Reinsert the battery then turn it on. If the phone still does not turn on then try charging it using a wall charger for at least 20 minutes. Make sure that the charging indicator is present on the phone. Turn on your phone after 20 minutes.

S3 Turns Off After Unplugging Charger

Problem: My galaxy s3 shuts off as soon as I pull it off the charger and when I try to turn it on it will go all the way to the Samsung logo and then shut off and repeat itself. It will only stay on if its plugged in to the charger. Can you help me?

Solution: It appears that your phone may already have a weak battery. Get a new battery and make sure to charge it at least 20 minutes before turning on your phone.
