Samsung Galaxy Note 5 shows “Kernel is not SEAndroid Enforcing” plus other system issues
Aside from obvious hardware issues, many Samsung Galaxy Note 5 (#Samsung #GalaxyNote5) owners were complaining about firmware problems. While the device runs on the latest version of Android, it’s not free of issues that may arise any time.
In this post, I will tackle a few errors or system messages that indicate something is wrong including “Kernel is not SEAndroid Enforcing” and “Custom binary blocked by FRP lock,” which is basically just the same as the first error and may have other variations.
Of course, I will tackle the common boot loop and unresponsive issues. Read on to learn how to fix these problems should you happen to encounter them in the future. If, however, you were trying to find a solution to a totally different problem, then visit the troubleshooting page we’ve setup for Note 5 owners. You may find issues that are the same or related to yours. Try the solutions we suggested and if they don’t work, then contact us through this questionnaire.
Here are the problems I addressed in this post…
- Galaxy Note 5 showing “Kernel is not SEAndroid Enforcing” error
- Galaxy Note 5 showing “Custom binary blocked by FRP lock” error
- Apps and folders got deleted on Galaxy Note 5
- Galaxy Note 5 can’t boot up after an update
- Galaxy Note 5 stopped responding for no reason
Galaxy Note 5 showing “Kernel is not SEAndroid Enforcing” error
Problem: When I switch the Galaxy Note 5 on, it says “Kernel is not SEAndroid enforcing” after that it loads up works for a bit, then reboots, back up and keeps doing this. The phone is rooted and Samsung USA said they can’t help because it’s an international phone. I bought it in Florida mall but since am back in the UK am stuck. I have even tried the last update but still the phone keeps rebooting. Also Samsung Knox can’t be installed. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.
Troubleshooting: I’m not sure if this problem already existed since day 1 and if the rooting caused it but I’m sure it’s a firmware issue and won’t go away unless addressed by the owner. The good thing about smartphones nowadays is that they often malfunction if their firmwares are messed up and bringing them back to default will always fix the problem. Reflashing the firmware to your phone will solve the problem. Here’s a simple guide for you:
- Download the stock firmware specific to your phone model. You may browse Sammobile.com for the untouched version of the firmware. All you need to do is enter the correct model number in the firmware section.
- Download the latest version of Odin; it’s a flashing tool that can manually install firmwares to Galaxy devices. You may use Google to find the site that hosts it.
- Boot your phone in Download Mode.
- Open Odin from your computer.
- Connect your phone to your computer and make sure it’s properly detected and recognized.
- Begin the flashing of the firmware.
I hope this helps.
Galaxy Note 5 showing “Custom binary blocked by FRP lock” error
Problem: I bought a Note 5, didn’t know it was blacklisted, so I found a guy who claim he can fix the issue for 80 bucks. So I took the phone to him, he did what he did, phone started working for awhile, but when I went to activate it with my carrier, they ask me to reboot the phone, I rebooted the phone but its stuck on the first screen where it shows Samsung Galaxy Note 5 power by android, and in the top left hand corner it says “Kernel is not SEAndroid enforcing… Custom binary blocked by FRP lock,” so I’m thinking the guy probably flashed the wrong kernel when he was trying to fix the IMEI, I’m stuck, I spend a lot of money on this phone, I don’t know what to do, please help.
Troubleshooting: The procedures I cited above may work on your case as they’re basically the same. Or, you may contact the person who may have tampered the IMEI or changed the “virtual identity” of the phone. If he could do what he did, then he could fix this problem. I am sorry but we can’t continue providing support to a possibly stolen phone.
Apps and folders got deleted on Galaxy Note 5
Problem: I lost all my application folders and applications from front pages once I restart the device. I do factory reset, no use. I went to Samsung dealer in Kuwait, did new software of Samsung but not useful. I sold the device and bought new Note 5 64GB but same problem exists. No one in Kuwait gave me a solution. I need urgent help why all my folders of application and my applications disappear from front page once I switch off the device. Please note that in Kuwait we have Note 5 manufactured in Vietnam.
Answer: It’s no coincidence that the same problem happens on two different Note 5s and since you haven’t provided more information about it, there’s no way we can pinpoint what the issue really or what causes it.
If you’re using a third-party launcher to manage your apps and folders, then try to look for a new one or better yet, use the stock one. Further observation is necessary to know the root cause of this problem and there’s no one to do that but you. And it’s not really about where the device is manufactured for as long as it’s authentic, it must follow the same quality guideline and programming.
Galaxy Note 5 can’t boot up after an update
Problem: Hello. My new Galaxy Note 5 is giving me a headache since the recent update. I downloaded it thinking it will fix some issues but it brought a big one and now it won’t turn on and get stuck somewhere after the logo. This problem occurred as soon as the update finished and I haven’t used my phone for two days now. A neighbor tried to help but he, too, didn’t know what to do so I’m asking you now for help. Thanks.
Troubleshooting: I bet the phone is just fine; it’s just that some caches or data may have been corrupted during the update. The first thing I want you to do is to charge your phone and leave it plugged in for an hour just to make sure there’s enough juice for troubleshooting. After an hour of charging, boot the phone in recovery mode and wipe the cache partition. Follow these steps…
- Turn off your Samsung Galaxy Note 5 completely.
- Press and hold the Volume Up and the Home buttons first, and then press and hold the Power key.
- Keep the three buttons pressed and when ‘Samsung Galaxy Note5’ shows, release the Power key but continue holding the other two.
- Once the Android logo shows, release both the Volume Up and Home buttons.
- The notice ‘Installing system update’ will show on the screen for 30 to 60 seconds before the Android system recovery screen is shown with its options.
- Use the Volume Down key to highlight the option ‘wipe cache partition’ and press the Power key to select it.
- When the process is complete, use the Volume Down key to highlight the option ‘Reboot system now’ and hit the Power key to restart the phone.
- The reboot may take a little longer to complete but don’t worry and wait for the device to become active.
I bet this procedure alone can fix the problem only if the phone can successfully boot in recovery mode but if you failed for the first time, re-try until you get it right. If you successfully cleared the cache partition and the phone is still stuck after the logo, then there’s no other option but to perform a master reset. You will lose all your data but this is the only option left for us to know if the phone can still be fixed without seeing a technician.

Galaxy Note 5 stopped responding for no reason
Problem: Hello guys I need your urgent help for my phone just stopped responding with a black screen. It is a Samsung Galaxy Note 5, which I bought brand new last month. I haven’t installed many apps, no games, just some productivity apps I use for my work. Not really a tech savvy person so I’m afraid to do a thing about it thinking I might make things worse. Please help me or advice me what to do. Thank you.
Troubleshooting: I think the system on your phone just crashed that’s why it won’t respond to whatever you do and for that, all you need to do is to force reboot it; press and hold both the Volume Down and Power keys together for 20 seconds or until the logo shows up. That’s it! Your phone should be able to work well like before.
However, if the phone won’t respond to an attempt to force restart it, then try to charge it for, at least, 20 minutes and try again. There’s a chance the battery was drained. Try the procedure several times and if the phone just won’t come back on, then it’s time you brought it to a technician to be checked.
