Related Problem: hi, the issue i have with my Samsung galaxy note 4 is that every time i check for the update, it says, current software is up to date, check again in 24 hrs, the version still  Kitkat 4.4.4, but it won’t update,,i also want to point out that my phone is from AT&T,,bought it unlocked but my carrier is T-mobile,,maybe it  has  to do something with it? well, this is my issue, thank you

Solution: Normally, your phone should be getting software updates as soon as it becomes available. There are however certain conditions that your phone must meet in order for it to get the official update which we have listed below.

  • Your phone should not be rooted.
  • Your phone should not be running on a custom software.
  • If you unlocked your phone then it should be running on its original network in order for it to access the update servers.

If your phone meets the conditions listed above and it is not getting any software updates then I suggest that you backup your phone data then do a factory reset. Once the reset is complete try updating your phone using Kies.

If the update is still not available then one last thing that you can consider is to manually flash the updated firmware file using Odin. You can get the firmware file of your phone from the Sammobile website which is also where you will get the instructions on how to flash your phone.

Note 4 Freezes Then Restarts

Problem: HI. I have Galaxy Note 4. It’s 2 days that my phone freeze seconds and restarts sometimes after freeze. Sometimes it works slowly after freezing. I do reset factory but nothing changed. Even before loading application’s backup. What’s wrong with my phone? I use it carefully and this problem is not because of dropping phone or etc…

Solution: Since you have already performed a factory reset we can set aside any software related glitches that could be causing this problem and concentrate on other factors first. Does you phone have a microSD card installed? If it does then you should try removing the card as this could be causing the problem.

Another possible factor that can cause this problem is a faulty battery. Try replacing the battery with a new one then check if the issue still occurs.

In case the above steps fails to fix the problem then you need to bring the phone to a service center and have it checked as this could already be caused by an internal component that is failing to work properly.

Note 4 Is Lagging And Heating

Problem: Hi I have an old note 4, it’s lagging and heating… i have followed all of the instructions on different remedies on your site. Is there a way that i can test if it a hardware problem ?

Solution: If you already performed most of the troubleshooting steps that are recommended for this particular problem then it’s possible that this is already a hardware related issue. The troubleshooting steps that you can do on the hardware side of the phone is limited to replacing the battery and taking out the microSD card ( to check if the card is causing the problem). If the issue still persists after this then the phone must be opened and it’s components must be checked. This is best done by a technician at a service center since they will have the correct tools to perform this task.

Note 4 Freezing And Restarting

Problem: my phone as of over a week ago keeps freezing and restarting and is laggy at times..and a few months ago stopped fast charging..keeps popping up boot services has stopped..

Solution: What you will want to do in this case is to remove the microSD card of the phone ( if it has one installed) then check if the problem still occurs. If it does then you will need to backup your phone data then do a factory reset. Once the reset is complete do not install any apps in your phone yet. Try to check first if you still experience the same issue. If the problem persists then you should consider flashing your phone with its updated stock firmware file using Odin. you can get the instructions on how to flash your phone as well as the firmware file from the Sammobile website.

Note 4 Phone Is Not Responding

Problem: I accidentally held down bottom button while turning device on. It went into downloading something with the android guy. it instantly went to extremely slow, black screen when it finally comes up with a screen it’s a constant android.system.?  is not responding, touchscreen is not responding, multiple things not responding. please advise. phone has worked great up til this

Solution: What you will want to do right now is to restart the phone first. The restart will refresh the phone software and usually fixes some issues that you are experiencing with your phone. In case the issue still persists then you will need to start the phone in recovery mode and the do a factory reset. Take note that the reset will erase your phone data.

In case the problem does not get fixed then you should consider flashing the phone with its stock firmware file using Odin. Get the firmware file of your phone from the Sammobile website. It’s also in this website where you can get the instructions on how to flash your phone.

Note 4 Randomly Shutting Down And Freezing

Problem: Galaxy note 4 is randomly shutting down and will freeze up. I have kept the software up to date and I’m wondering if it’s just time to get a new phone. I have done a full factory reset and cleared phone but it still does it

Solution: Since you have already performed a factory reset which doesn’t fix the problem then you should check the other factors that can cause this problem such as

  • Remove the microSd card of the phone if you have one installed. If this card has corrupt sectors then this problem can occur.
  • Try replacing the battery with a new one.

If the issue persists then you should bring the phone to a service center and have it checked.
