This phone is best known for its 5.5 inch Super AMOLED display which even at 720p ( for the 2016 version) is still capable of producing great quality images. It has a solid build quality and although is not waterproof or dustproof it is still a great phone cost wise. Although a lot of people are using this device as their reliable daily driver there are instances when certain issues can occur which we will be addressing today. In this latest installment of our troubleshooting series we will tackle the Galaxy J7 screen only showing lines issue & other related problems.

J7 Screen Only Showing Lines
Problem: i have samsung galaxy j7 2015 I have an issue in my cellphone it’s On but Not Showing anything on the screen only few lines and a diffrent colours is coming on thanks Waiting for your best response best regards
Solution: What you will want to do first in this case is to check if the problem is caused by some software glitch. Perform the troubleshooting steps listed below. After performing a step immediately check if the issue still occurs and if it does proceed to the next step.
- Start the phone in Safe Mode. when the phone operates in this mode only the pre-installed apps are allowed to run. Check if the issue occurs in this mode. If it doesn’t then it could be caused by one of the apps you downloaded. Find out what app this is and uninstall it.
- Start the phone in recovery mode. If the display works in this mode then the problem could be caused by a software glitch. You will then need to do a factory reset from here. Take note that the reset will erase your phone data.
If the above steps fails to fix the problem then it’s likely that your phone has a damaged display. You will need to bring the phone to a service center and have it checked if this is the case.
J7 Hotspot Speed Is Slow
Problem: Thanks for taking a moment to look at my message! I just bought a Samsung Galaxy J727. I was previously using a Google LG Nexus 4. I don’t have WiFi at my house and use the phone hotspot quite a bit for home computing. Is there a reason (hardware, software, glitch?) that my Galaxy J7 hotspot is substantially slower than my Nexus 4? I’m wondering if I need to get a phone with more power than the Galaxy J727… I am happy with the phone otherwise, but the hotspot issue is a deal breaker if I can’t get it moving faster. The hotspot for the Nexus 4 (quite old now) was actually quite fast. FYI, I’m testing on both mac and pc. Both are still much slower on the Galaxy J727.
Solution: There are several factors that can cause a hotspot to have a slow connection speed. If there are several devices connected to the hotspot using the connection then the speed could slow down considerably. The data signal that your phone is getting can also be a factor that can cause a slow connection. If your phone is not getting an LTE signal then the speed can also slow down.
The best way to check the hotspot speed of the phone is to make sure that the phone is getting an LTE signal then connect only one device to the hotspot. Run a speedtest on the device. If you are using a laptop then open a browser then go to speedtest.net and run the test.
Repeat this same test when you are using the Nexus 4. Make sure to place the SIM card from the J7 to the Nexus 4 when performing the test.
If there is a considerable difference in speed and the Nexus 4 is indeed faster then it’s very likely that this is due to the hardware components used. The Nexus 4 might have a faster Wi-Fi chip thus it is able to provide a faster hotspot connection.
J7 Has Black Screen with Notifications Working
Problem: My phone has a black screen. I don’t have a led blue light; the phone doesn’t show the green battery when it is charging while shut down. I know the phone works because i can hear the notifications and the vibrations on the phone. I tried both safe mode and major reset and NOTHING WORKED!
Related Problem: The screen of my phone is pure black so I can’t see the contents of my phone, but i found a way to make sure it’s working by turning on the volume of my phone, and as said it’s still working, just that I can’t see anything and the screen is still black.
Solution: The best way to tackle this issue is to start the phone in recovery mode. If the display works in this mode then there’s a possibility that the problem is caused by a software glitch. You will need to do a factory reset from here. Take note that the reset will erase your phone data. In case the screen is still black in recovery mode then it’s very likely that the display is damaged. You will need to bring the phone to a service center and have it checked if this is the case.
J7 Facebook Messenger Sound Setting
Problem: Hi! I wanna ask help regarding my FB Messenger app. The issue that I have is when someone is trying to video call me, the ringtone isn’t the as I set as it is. I’ve already cleared cache and allowed permissions and also did wipe partition and still the same. I’m not sure if it’s the ringtone of the is wrong or maybe the phone and if there’s that it can be fixed. Really much appreciate for the help guys!
Solution: Depending on the Facebook Messenger version that your phone has installed you will need to click on Settings then open the menu for Notifications & Sounds. Open Notification Sound then choose the sound that you wish to hear when receiving a message.
J7 Contacts Has Stopped Working
Problem: All of a sudden yesterday when I tried to make a phone call I got a message in a box that contacts had stopped working. It told me I had to turn off messages popping up on top of anything I was doing with the phone from settings! Cannot find where it says I can turn this off. Any ideas would be great. Thank you
Solution: The first thing that you will need to do in this particular case is to clear the cache and data of the Contacts app from the application manager. Once this is done restart the phone then check if the issue still occurs. If it does then proceed with the following troubleshooting steps listed below.
- Start the phone in Safe Mode. Does the problem occur in this mode? If it doesn’t then this might be caused by an app you downloaded. Find out what app this is and uninstall it.
- Wipe the cache partition of the phone from the recovery mode.
- Backup your phone data then do a factory reset.
J7 Photos Have Asterisk Sign
Problem: Hi good day. I an having trouble with my samsung j7 2016. Just took photos recently today and after dinner i check on them for upload but i can’t see the photos. It only show this sign “!” and i can’t view them. What should i do?
Solution: Accessing photos that have an asterisk sign means that they are corrupt. Try restarting the phone then check if the photos can still be accessed. If the photos are stored in the microSD card then you should remove the card and let your computer read it. In case they are still corrupt then you should try to using a data recovery software to recover the photos.
