Samsung Galaxy S4 Switches Off Does Not Restart Issue & Other Power Related Problems

One of the issues which a smartphone owner dreads is when the device does not turn on. When this happens the phone is not only unusable but the personal data stored in it ( such as photos, contacts, music, documents, etc. ) can’t be accessed. If a backup copy has previously been made then this would not be a huge problem but most of the time a backup copy does not exist. The #Samsung Galaxy #S4 for example also suffers from this issue. Now that the device is nearly 3 years old since it was first released, we could be seeing more of this type of issue from the first batch of owners.

S4 Switches Off Does Not Restart

Problem: My phone was working perfect this morning then suddenly switched off and would not restart.  I took the battery out the back and put it back in and it came up with Android initialising then when blank again.  It has not powered up still 3 hours later.  I have took the battery out again and still nothing however when I press the button on the side to switch it on it buzzes but nothing happens.  Can you please advice me?  Many thanks.

Solution: There are a couple of factors that we should check for this type of issue. The first thing to do is to check if the issue is caused by a weak battery. Try connecting the phone to a wall charger and let it charge for at least 20 minutes. With the charger still connected try to turn on the phone. If the issue does not occur then it’s possible that it could be caused by the battery. If this is the case then you should get a new battery.

Another possible reason why this problem exists is because of a glitch in the phone data or software.

To troubleshoot this scenario you need to take out the battery and microSD card ( if you have one attached). Press and old the power button for at least a minute then reinsert just the battery. Turn on your phone in recovery mode then wipe its cache partition. This will delete the temporary data in your device. Restart your phone then check if the problem still occurs.

If at this point the issue still occurs then you will need to backup your phone data then do a factory reset. The best way to do a factory reset is through the recovery mode. If you are unable to access this mode then the issue could already be hardware related. If this is the case then you should have you phone checked at an authorized service center.

S4 Does Not Switch On Or Charge

Problem: Hi, My samsung galaxy s4 does not switch on nor does it show that the device is charging. I’ve used several new batteries and new chargers the phone refuses to do anything. While on charge the processor does heat up and so does the battery

Solution: This issue could already be hardware related. You can however do some additional troubleshooting steps such as cleaning the phone charger port using a can of compressed air or cotton bud dipped in alcohol. Once this is done charge the phone for at least 20 minutes then try to turn it on.

You should also try to discharge your device. To do this just take out the battery and the microSD card. Press and hold the power button for at least a minute then reinsert just the battery. Check if you are able to turn on the phone.

If the problem persists then I suggest you bring your phone to an authorized service center and have it checked.

S4 Buzzes When Switched On

Problem: My fiance tried to power on his phone but it buzzed once and then this yellow screen with a static look to it popped up and then when black. This was after the yellow screen had just stayed there until the phone was powered off. He dropped his phone into the sink but the phone wasn’t even close to being submerged because it was empty. We don’t think its the battery because we tried mine and it did the same thing.

Solution: If this issue occured right after the phone was dropped in the sink then the issue is most likely caused by water damage. Try to dry the phone first by placing it in a bag of rice for at least 48 hours with the battery removed. After 48 hours reinsert the battery then turn on the phone. If it doesn’t turn on then connect it to its wall charger and let it charge for 20 minutes then turn on the phone again.

If the issue persists then I suggest you bring the phone to an authorized service center and have it checked.

S4 Does Not Boot

Problem: I have Samsung Galaxy S4, I have been using this mobile since two years, all of a sudden its not working, when I reinsert the battery, it displays the model of the mobile and doesn’t start further. Please help with my issue.

Solution: If the phone does not go past the boot logo then there’s a possibility that this could be a software related issue. To troubleshoot this problem you need to take out the battery and the microSD card first. Press and hold the power button for at least a minute then reinsert just the battery. This will discharge the phone circuit then clear out its RAM. Try to turn on your phone and check if the issue disappears.

If the problem persists then you need to turn on your phone from the recovery mode. From here proceed with wiping the cache partition of your phone. This will delete the temporary data stored in the device which could cause the problem.

One last troubleshooting step that you should consider should the above troubleshooting steps fail is a factory reset from the recovery mode. Take note that your phone data will be deleted in this process so make sure to have a backup of your data before proceeding.

S4 Froze Then Shuts Off

Problem: basically it was at around 60% charge and phone froze which caused it to shut off and now it wont restart or recognize and chargers and even a new battery with full charge makes no difference plus the charging port is clean

Solution: This could already be a hardware problem. Have you checked if you can start the phone in recovery mode while the charger is connected? If you can then I suggest you immediately do a factory reset to eliminate any software related problems that could be causing this issue. If you are unable to access the recovery mode then you have to bring your phone to an authorized service center and have it checked.

S4 Powers Off When In Use

Problem: My Galaxy S4 powers off while I am talking on it. It also powers off when I am texting and showing photos.I have changed batteries but it does not help.

Solution: Sometimes this problem could be caused by a glitch in the phone software. Try wiping the cache partition of your phone from the recovery mode then check if the issue still occurs. If it does then I suggest you backup your phone data then do a factory reset.

S4 Cracked Screen Not Turning On

Problem: My phone started glitching when I took the front protector screen off and it shut off and is now pretty much shut itself but the red light for the charging still turns on when I charge it and also wrecked a couple of my chargers after use in my phone and it still vibrates when I try to turn it on but the screen is not responsive it’s only got to cracks in it very minor so don’t understand the issue ??????

Solution: If the phone damages your chargers then you should have this checked at an authorized service center. There could be some contacts that are shorted in the device which is causing this problem.
