First solution: Reboot your phone (first time occurrence)
If this is the first time that you encounter this error, don’t do anything complicated yet. Instead, reboot your phone as it might be just a glitch in the system. A reboot might be just the only thing you need to do to fix this problem. It’s very effective in dealing with minor issues in either the firmware or the hardware. If this doesn’t fix, then try the forced reboot procedure which is more effective than a normal reboot.
- Press and hold the volume down and power keys at the same time for 10 seconds or more.
If this doesn’t fix the problem either, then move on to the next step.
Second solution: Reset the Gallery app
By reset I mean clearing the cache and data of the Gallery app. Don’t worry, this doesn’t delete your pictures and videos and very effective in fixing this error message. If this issue is just with the app, then this method is enough to fix it. Here’s how…
- From a Home screen, touch and swipe up or down to display all apps.
- From a Home screen, navigate: Settings > Apps.
- Tap App Manager.
- Locate then tap Gallery.
- Tap Storage.
- Tap CLEAR CACHE.
- Tap Cached data.
- Tap CLEAR.
Should the problem continue after this, then you have to do the next solution.
Third solution: Backup your files and reset your phone
Gallery is a pre-installed app and is embedded in the system so you can’t just uninstall it. You’ve already tried clearing the cache and data to no avail so it’s time to reset your phone. But before that, make sure you backup your files and data especially ones that are stored in your phone’s internal storage. After the backup, remove your google account from your phone so that you won’t be locked out after the reset. After that, follow these steps to reset your phone:
- Turn off the device.
- Press and hold the Volume Up key and the Bixby key, then press and hold the Power key.
- When the green Android logo displays, release all keys (‘Installing system update’ will show for about 30 – 60 seconds before showing the Android system recovery menu options).
- Press the Volume down key several times to highlight “wipe data / factory reset.
- Press Power button to select.
- Press the Volume down key until ‘Yes — delete all user data’ is highlighted.
- Press Power button to select and start the master reset.
- When the master reset is complete, “Reboot system now” is highlighted.
- Press the Power key to restart the device.
