Troubleshooting Galaxy A30 with screen flickering issue
As long as the phone doesn’t have any signs of physical damage, you can easily fix this problem by doing some troubleshooting procedures. I personally encountered this kind of problem in my old phones before so I know that a flickering screen can also be a software-related problem. Here’s what you need to do to fix it…
First solution: Force restart your phone first
If it’s the first time that you encountered this problem and if your phone was working properly prior to this, then it could be just due to a minor firmware issue or even a glitch. In such case, you can fix the problem by doing the forced restart procedure, which is very effective when it comes to minor problems. Here’s how it’s done:
- Press and hold the volume down button and don’t release it.
- While holding it down, press and hold the power key as well.
- Keep both keys held down together until the Galaxy A30 logo shows on the screen.
Your phone will restart and its memory will be refreshed while all its apps and services reloaded. Continue using it to know if the screen flickering issue continues. If it still does, then move on to the next procedure.

Second solution: Reboot your phone in Safe mode
This will tell us immediately if the problem is caused by a third-party app or not. There are times when third-party applications would cause the screen to flicker especially heavy gaming apps. By running the phone in safe mode, you’re actually temporarily disabling all third-party apps and if the screen flickering doesn’t occur while your device is in this environment, then it means that the problem is really caused by one or some of the applications you downloaded and installed. Follow these steps to restart your phone in safe mode:
- Press and hold the power key until power options show on the screen.
- Tap and hold the Power off option until the Safe mode button shows.
- Touch Safe mode to restart your phone.
- Wait until the device has rebooted and you will see the text ‘Safe mode’ on the lower left corner of the screen.
Now, continue using your phone to see if the screen flickering continues. If the problem doesn’t occur while the phone is in this mode, then it means that there are apps that cause the flickering. Restart your phone into normal mode and then try using the apps that you suspect to be causing the problem and uninstall them one by one.
Third solution: Reset settings to fix screen flickering issue
There was also a case I encountered wherein the screen flickering problem started after the owner changed some settings in this phone. Some display settings may have been changed or were inappropriate. At this point, we still don’t know why the problem occurs especially if the first two procedures failed to fix the problem. With that said, it’s best to just reset all settings back to default without deleting your apps or files and there’s a way to do that. Follow these steps:
- Swipe down from the top of the screen to pull the notification panel down.
- Tap the Settings icon at the top-right corner of the screen.
- Touch General management.
- Tap Reset.
- Touch Reset settings.
- Tap the Reset settings button and enter your PIN, password or pattern.
- Tap Reset to confirm your action.
After this, continue using your phone to know if the screen flickering issue continues because if it still does, then it’s time to troubleshoot the firmware itself.

Fourth solution: Delete the system cache
In troubleshooting the firmware, the first thing you need to do is to delete the system cache. It’s a collection of files used by the firmware to make your phone run smoothly. But there are times when the cache gets corrupted and would result to performance issues. Therefore, you have to delete the system cache so that it will be replaced with a new one and here’s how you do it:
- Turn off the device.
- Press and hold the Volume Up and Power keys.
- When the Galaxy A30 logo shows, release all three keys.
- Your Galaxy A30 will continue to boot up into the Recovery Mode. Once you see a black screen with blue and yellow texts, proceed to the next step.
- Press the Volume down key several times to highlight wipe cache partition.
- Press Power key to select.
- Press the Volume down key to highlight yes, them and press the Power key to select.
- When the wipe cache partition is complete, Reboot system now is highlighted.
- Press the Power key to restart the device.
It will take a little longer for your phone to reboot after doing this as it will rebuild the cache. But once the device becomes active, use your phone to find out if the screen flickering issue continues. If it still does, then you have no other choice but to do the next procedure.
Fifth solution: Backup your files and reset your phone
At this point and after all the previous procedures failed to fix the problem, then it’s time to perform the Master Reset. If the screen flickering issue is caused by a firmware problem, then a reset would be able to fix it. However, if it’s a hardware problem, then you would find out after this procedure.
Before the reset, make sure to create a backup or copy of your important files and data, especially ones that are stored in your phone’s internal storage. Then, remove your Google and Samsung accounts so that you won’t be locked out of your device after the reset. Once everything is set and ready, follow these steps to reset your device:
- Turn off the device.
- Press and hold the Volume Up and Power keys.
- When the Galaxy A30 logo shows, release all three keys.
- Your Galaxy A30 will continue to boot up into the Recovery Mode. Once you see a black screen with blue and yellow texts, proceed to the next step.
- Press the Volume down key several times to highlight ‘wipe data / factory reset’.
- Press Power button to select.
- Press the Volume down key until ‘Yes’ is highlighted.
- Press Power button to select and start the master reset.
- When the master reset is complete, ‘Reboot system now’ is highlighted.
- Press the Power key to restart the device.
The reboot this time will be a little longer than usual but just wait for your phone to become active. Once your Galaxy A30 has rebooted successfully, continue using the phone and observe to see if the screen flickering disappeared. If the screen still flickers, then it’s time to bring it to the store or shop so that a technician can properly check it for you.
