How to Rename a File on Google Pixel 7

However, this may not always be the case especially when it comes to downloads and screenshots as these files are automatically assigned with random labels as filenames. Good thing new Android smartphones are already packed with many useful file organization tools that you can use to optimize storage and renaming a file is among them.

  1. To begin, open the Google File manager application by tapping on the Files app shortcut from the Apps tray/Apps drawer.



    Just swipe up from the bottom of the Home screen to launch the Apps tray and then locate the Files app icon.

  2. While in the Files app main screen, browse to locate the file that you’d like to rename.



    You may have to open a certain directory or folder somewhere in the internal storage to locate the file.

  3. Once you’ve found the file, touch and hold on it to select or highlight.



    The highlighted file will then be marked with a check next to it.

  4. With the file selected, tap on the three dots located on the upper-right corner.



    Doing so opens a side menu with different options.

  5. Tap Rename from the given options to proceed. A pop-up window will load up next.



    This is where you will type in the new name that you’d like to assign to the file.

  6. Just enter the new filename in the provided text field and then tap OK to save it.



    The file is now successfully renamed.

Should you wish to rename another file, just repeat the same steps to locate and select the file that you’d like to change the name.

Aside from renaming files, the Android 13 File manager also allows you to edit, move, copy, or delete files on your device. Just locate and select the file(s) that you’d like to manage and choose the desired action for the File manager app to execute. Changes will immediately take effect on the selected file(s).
