My Samsung Galaxy A20 is not charging. Here’s the fix.

One of the really useful features of the Samsung Galaxy A20 is its battery. It has a 4000 mAh battery that could last a couple of days but what good does it do if you couldn’t charge it when you needed to, right? Some owners of this great phone has reported that it is not charging anymore after just a few weeks of use. While most people would like to think that it’s a hardware problem affecting the battery itself, most of the time, that’s not really the case. 

So, in this post, I will walk you through in troubleshooting your Galaxy A20 that is not charging anymore. We will consider every possibility and rule them out one by one until we can determine what the problem is and hopefully fix it. So, if you’re one of the owners of this phone and are currently having similar issue, continue reading as this article may be able to help you one way or another.

Troubleshooting Galaxy A20 that’s not charging anymore

Both the hardware and firmware play a big role in the charging process, contrary to what many believe that it’s just a hardware process. The firmware actually makes it possible to detect when to trickle-charge and when to stop when the battery is full. So, in troubleshooting this problem, you have to consider both and with that being said, here’s what you need to do…

First solution: Perform the forced restart first

The very first thing you have to do if your phone is not charging is the forced reboot or simulated battery removal. This addresses the possible issues with the firmware which may have resulted to this problem. Here’s how you do it: 

1. Press and hold the Volume Down button and don’t release it yet. 
2. While holding down the volume button, press and hold the Power key as well. 
3. Keep both keys held down together for 15 seconds or until the Galaxy A20 logo shows on the screen.

Once the phone has successfully restarted, try to connect it to its charger to see if the problem is fixed. If your Galaxy A20 is still not charging, then move on to the next procedure.

Second solution: Make sure the charger and cable are in good condition

Another possibility here is that the problem could either be with the charger and/or the cable. The next thing you have to do is physically check the charger. Just look into the port to see if there’s something there that doesn’t belong like a gunk, lint or debris of any sort. 

You may use an anti-static brush to clean the port on the charger and if there’s something there that sticks, use a pair of tweezers to remove it. 

For the cable, you just have to inspect both ends to see if there’s something to obstructs electricity. Anything that sticks or covers the connectors could be the cause of this problem. So, make sure both ends are clean and then inspect the wire itself to see if there’s some kind of a break or irregularity. 

After making sure the charger and cable are in good condition and yet your Galaxy A20 is still not charging, then move on to the next solution. 

Third solution: Make sure your phone’s charging port is clean and good

If you’re like me who put the phone in the pocket all the time regardless of how big or small it is, then you should have experienced having small pieces of cloth enter the charging port of the device. Anything that doesn’t belong should be removed as it obstructs electricity. Again, use an anti-static brush or just a plain, dry toothbrush to clean the port. 

After this, try to connect your phone to its charger and if it still not charging after this, then move on to the next solution. 

Fourth solution: Reset your phone, if possible

If your Galaxy A20 still has enough power, create a backup of your important files and data, and then reset your phone. This will remove all your personal data from your phone to protect your privacy as well as rule out the possibility that this is just due to a firmware issue. Here’s how to reset your device: 

1. Remove your Google and Samsung accounts.
2. Turn off the device.
3. Press and hold the Volume Up key and the Bixby key, then press and hold the Power key.
4. When the Galaxy A20 logo shows, release all three keys.
5. Your Galaxy A20 will continue to boot up into the Recovery Mode. Once you see a black screen with blue and yellow texts, proceed to the next step. 
6. Press the Volume down key several times to highlight ‘wipe data / factory reset’.
7. Press Power button to select.
8. Press the Volume down key until ‘Yes’ is highlighted.
9. Press Power button to select and start the master reset.
10. When the master reset is complete, ‘Reboot system now’ is highlighted.
11. Press the Power key to restart the device.

After the reset, try to charge your Galaxy A20 and if it still not charging after this, then bring the phone to the shop or back to the store so that a technician can check it for you.
