Instagram Not Working Here Are 14 Ways To Fix It

Instagram is one of the most widely used social media platforms, but like any other app, it can sometimes malfunction. If you're experiencing issues with Instagram, here are several steps you can take to resolve the problem.

1. Restart the App and Your Device

Restarting the app or your device is often the simplest and most effective way to resolve issues. Close the Instagram app completely and then reopen it. If the problem persists, shut down your device and restart it. This can help clear out any corrupted memory or cache files that might be causing the issue.

2. Check if Instagram is Down

Sometimes, the problem isn't with your device but with Instagram's servers. Check if Instagram is experiencing any outages by visiting DownDetector or searching "Is Instagram down" on Google. If Instagram is down, you'll just need to wait until the service is restored.

3. Log In on Another Device

Try logging into your Instagram account on a different device, such as a desktop computer or another smartphone. If you can log in successfully on another device, the issue is likely with your current device. If you can't log in on any device, it might be an issue with your account or Instagram's servers.

4. Ensure Instagram is Up to Date

Make sure you have the latest version of the Instagram app installed. Outdated apps can often cause issues. Go to the App Store (for iOS) or Google Play Store (for Android) and check for any available updates.

5. Clear the Cache

Clearing the cache can resolve issues related to corrupted data. On Android, go to Settings > Apps & Notifications > Instagram > Storage & cache > Clear cache. On iOS, you can't directly clear the cache, but you can delete and reinstall the app to achieve a similar effect.

6. Check Your Internet Connection

A weak or unstable internet connection can cause Instagram to malfunction. Try opening other websites or apps to see if your internet connection is stable. If you're using Wi-Fi, try switching to cellular data or vice versa to see if the issue persists.

7. Log Out and Log In Again

Sometimes, simply logging out and logging back into your Instagram account can resolve the issue. This can help refresh your session and clear any temporary glitches.

8. Delete and Reinstall the App

If other methods don't work, deleting and reinstalling the Instagram app can often resolve the issue. This will clear all data associated with the app and give you a fresh start.

9. Check for Device-Specific Issues

If you're experiencing issues on a specific device, it might be related to the device's settings or configuration. For example, some users have reported that changing their phone's language settings can resolve login issues.

10. Check App Permissions

Ensure that Instagram has the necessary permissions to access your photos, videos, and other data. Sometimes, permissions can get reset during updates or reinstallation, causing the app to malfunction.

11. Reset Device Settings

If the issue persists, you might need to reset your device's settings. This can help if there are any configuration issues causing the problem. However, be cautious as this will reset all your device settings to their default values.

12. Check for Follow Limit

If you're experiencing issues related to following new accounts, check if you've reached the follow limit of 7,500 users. If you have, you'll need to unfollow some accounts before you can follow new ones.

13. Use Instagram in a Browser

Try accessing Instagram through a web browser to see if the issue is specific to the app. If it works in the browser but not in the app, the problem is likely with the app itself.

14. Contact Instagram Support

If none of the above steps resolve the issue, it might be a problem with your account or a more complex issue that requires support from Instagram. You can report the problem through the app or contact Instagram support for further assistance.

  1. I have had an Instagram account for a few years now, created on my computer (HP) – not an app. I cannot see the majority of my posted pictures (art), nor can anyone else trying to access my account. I cannot access any of the photos I do see so that I can post additional comments i.e. sold, or delete it, etc…What is going on?
