How to Soft Reset, Factory Reset and Master Reset your new Samsung Galaxy Note 9

How to do the Soft Reset on Samsung Galaxy Note 9

It is also called as the Forced Reboot and it’s often used when your phone freezes and doesn’t respond anymore. Your phone may reboot like it usually does but it’s far more effective than the normal reboot as it refreshes your phone’s memory and reloads all apps and services. If your phone also starts to become sluggish, you may do this to make it run fast again. Here’s how you do it:

• Press both the volume down and power keys at the same time and hold them down together for 10 seconds. You may feel your phone vibrating at some point but only release both keys if the screen turns on.

You can do this regardless whether your phone is powered on or has its screen turned off. Samsung devices with non-removable batteries are hardwired to perform the simulated battery disconnect provided it’s not correctly. If you can’t make your phone to respond after doing this, then you should try the following:

1. Press and hold the volume down button and don’t release it.
2. Now press and hold the Power key while holding down the volume down button.
3. Keep both keys held down together for 10 seconds or more.

It’s basically the same as the first procedure only that we’re making sure you press and hold the power key after the volume down button because doing it otherwise won’t give you similar result.

How to Reset Settings on your Samsung Galaxy Note 9

This procedure will be handy if you changed some settings in your device and you don’t know how to bring it back to default. It has some similar effects as with the factory reset but none of your files and data will be deleted. Only the settings will be brought back to factory defaults…

1. From the Home screen, swipe up on an empty spot to open the Apps tray.
2. Tap Settings > General Management > Reset > Reset settings.
3. Tap RESET SETTINGS.
4. If you have set up a PIN, enter it.
5. Tap RESET SETTINGS.
6. The device will restart to perform the reset of settings.

It is one of the things you really need to know as it’s very effective in dealing with minor problems that occur from time to time.

How to perform the Factory Reset on Samsung Galaxy Note 9

A factory reset is necessary when your phone has more than one app- and firmware-related issues. It will delete all files and data that are stored in the phone’s internal storage as well as the system cache and data files. You need to make a backup of your important files and data as you may not be able to recover them after this. Also, all the settings in your device will be brought to factory defaults so you may have to change some settings after the this to make your phone work the way you want it to be. Here’s how you do it:

1. Back up data on the internal memory. If you have signed into a Samsung account on the device, you have activated Anti-theft and will need your Samsung credentials to finish the master reset.
2. From the Home screen, swipe up on an empty spot to open the Apps tray.
3. Tap Settings > Cloud and accounts > Backup and restore.
4. Tap the following sliders to desired setting:
   • Back up my data
   • Automatic restore
5. Tap the Back key (bottom right) until you reach the main Settings menu.
6. Tap General Management > Reset > Factory data reset.
7. Scroll to the bottom of the screen, then tap RESET > DELETE ALL.
8. If you have screen lock turned on, enter your credentials.
9. If prompted to verify your Samsung account, enter the password, then tap CONFIRM.
10. Wait for the device to reset.

How to perform the Master Reset on Samsung Galaxy Note 9

The Master Reset is basically the same as the Factory Reset in a sense that it will give you the same results. However, there are times when you cannot go into Settings of your phone especially if it doesn’t boot up successfully or when you forgot your password, PIN or any security measures you’ve enabled. That’s when this procedure comes in handy. However, before doing this, you have to make sure you know your Google ID and password so that your phone won’t be locked out. If you can still backup your files and data before doing this, then do so…

1. Back up data on the internal memory. If you have signed into a Samsung account on the device, you have activated Anti-theft and will need your Samsung credentials to finish the master reset.
2. Turn off the device.
3. Press and hold the Volume Up key and the Bixby key, then press and hold the Power key.
4. When the green Android logo displays, release all keys (‘Installing system update’ will show for about 30 – 60 seconds before showing the Android system recovery menu options).
5. Press the Volume down key several times to highlight ‘wipe data / factory reset’.
6. Press Power button to select.
7. Press the Volume down key until ‘Yes — delete all user data’ is highlighted.
8. Press Power button to select and start the master reset.
9. When the master reset is complete, ‘Reboot system now’ is highlighted.
10. Press the Power key to restart the device.

You will have to setup your phone again like new after this as everything will also be reset.

How to Reset Network Settings on your Samsung Galaxy Note 9

When you’re having problems connecting to a Wi-Fi network or Bluetooth devices and you just can’t pinpoint what the problem is, then this is the best thing you can do. The following changes will occur by performing a reset of network settings.

• Stored Wi-Fi networks will be deleted.
• Paired Bluetooth devices will be deleted.
• Background data sync settings will be turned on.
• Data restrictive settings in applications that were manually turned on/off by the customer will be reset to the default setting.
• Network selection mode will be set to automatic.

So, make sure you know the login credentials to the Wi-Fi network you’re connecting to before doing this…

1. From the Home screen, swipe up on an empty spot to open the Apps tray.
2. Tap Settings > General Management > Reset > Reset network settings.
3. Tap RESET SETTINGS.
4. If you have set up a PIN, enter it.
5. Tap RESET SETTINGS. Once complete, a confirmation window will appear.

You will have to reconnect to the network again after this and make necessary changes to your settings if you want your phone to use Wi-Fi as the primary medium for internet connectivity.
