How to remove Google account from phone
There are times when we have to remove our Google account from our Android phone. The best example of this is when you’re planning on doing the master reset (via Recovery Mode). You need to remove your Google account so as not to trip the Factory Reset Protection (FRP) that will lock you out of your device if you don’t know your Google ID and its password.
When you remove an account from your device, all data associated with that account will also be deleted including email, contacts, settings, etc. Therefore, before you decide to remove an account, make sure to create a backup of things you don’t want to lose especially your contacts. Try syncing your phone with that account first to export them so they’ll be saved in a new location. Once everything is ready, follow these steps to remove your Google account from your Android phone.
- Open your device’s Settings app.
- Tap Accounts. If you don’t see “Accounts,” tap Users & accounts.
- Tap the account you want to remove and then Remove account.
- If this is the only Google Account on the device, you’ll need to enter your device’s pattern, PIN, or password for security.
You have your own reasons why you decided to remove your Google account from your phone but you should know that you cannot use your device to its full potential if there’s no account set up in it. So, if you want to add or re-add the account you removed, follow these steps…
- Open your device’s Settings app.
- Tap Accounts. If you don’t see “Accounts,” tap Users & accounts.
- At the bottom, tap Add account.
- To add your Google Account, tap Google. When you sign in with a Google Account, the email, contacts, calendar events, and other data associated with that account automatically sync with your device.
- Follow the on-screen instructions.
- If you’re adding accounts, you may need to enter your device’s pattern, PIN, or password for security.
So, there you have it! That’s how you remove a Google account from your phone and re-add it if you needed to.
