Hard reset, also known as factory reset or master reset, is one of the effective solutions you can use to fix your Galaxy Tab S4. By doing a hard reset, you are effectively returning all software settings to their defaults. Depending on the issue, this may or may not eliminate software bugs.
Prior to doing a hard reset, be sure to create a copy of your irreplaceable files somewhere. We assume you are responsibly backing up your files from time to time but be sure to do it right before you factory reset to avoid losing them. Also, make sure to remove any or all Google accounts from the device to prevent encountering problems related to Factory Reset Protection feature later on.
Method 1: How to hard reset on Galaxy Tab S4 under Settings Menu
Whether you’re trying to troubleshoot or doing maintenance, the first option you want to consider when doing a factory reset is through the Settings menu. It’s simple to do and can be done in seconds. Learn how to do it by following the steps below.
- Create a backup of your personal data such as photos, videos, messages, etc.
- From the Home screen, swipe up to view all apps.
- Open Settings app.
- Tap General management.
- Tap Reset.
- Tap Factory data reset.
- Tap RESET.
- If you have screen lock turned on, enter your PIN or password and tap Continue.
- Tap Delete all
Method 2: How to hard reset on Galaxy Tab S4 using hardware buttons
This method is recommended if you are in one of the following situations:
- device won’t boot up (powered off device)
- touchscreen keeps freezing
- device keeps rebooting on its own
- apps keep crashing
- phone is overheating
- you want to check if there’s on-going hardware issue
Using hardware keys to factory reset your Galaxy S4 may be necessary as well if Settings menu is inaccessible for whatever reason. Make sure to follow the steps below to do this hard reset successfully.
- If possible, create a backup of irreplaceable data in your internal storage before performing a master reset. If not possible, skip this step and proceed to the next one below.
- Hold down the Power button to turn off the device.. This is important. If you can’t turn it off, you’ll never be able to boot to Recovery Mode. If you are not able to shut the device off regularly via the Power button, wait until the phone’s battery is drained. Then, charge the phone for 30 minutes before booting to Recovery Mode.
- Press and hold the Volume Up and Power buttons.
- Continue to hold Volume Up and Power button until RECOVERY BOOTING appears (upper-left) then release all buttons. A blue screen with “Installing system update’ may display, followed by a screen with ‘No command’; continue to wait until the recovery screen appears.
- From the Android Recovery screen, select Wipe data/factory reset. Use the Volume buttons to cycle through available options and the Power button to select.
- Select Yes and Allow several seconds for the factory data reset to complete.
- Select Reboot system now.
- Wait for several minutes for the reboot process to complete.
- Set up your device again.
