Solution 1: Run Windows Update troubleshooter

To do this:

  1. Click Start menu or Windows icon located at the lower left.

Solution 2: Reset Windows Update Component

There are instances when issues with Windows update can cause errors to occurs during update, in this case getting Error Code 80244010. To fix this, you may need to reset Windows Update components and then check if the issue will be fixed.

To do this:

  1. Type Command Prompt at the search bar on your Windows located at the lower left.
  2. Right click on the Command Prompt result and click on Run as Administrator from the drop down menu for command prompt admin access.
  3. In the command line tool, type the following commands and hit enter key.
  4. Type net stop bits and press Enter.
  5. Type net stop wuauserv  and Enter.
  6. Type net stop cryptSvc  and press Enter.
  7. Type net stop msiserver  and press Enter.
  8. Type ren C:\Windows\SoftwareDistribution SoftwareDistribution.old  and press Enter.
  9. Type ren C:\Windows\System32\catroot2 Catroot2.old  and press Enter.
  10. Type net start bits  and press Enter.
  11. Type net start wuauserv  and press Enter.
  12. Type net start cryptSvc  and press Enter.
  13. Type net start msiserver  and press Enter.
  14. Click on Close
  15. After resetting Windows components, restart your computer.

Once computer completely reboots, download Windows updates again and then check if Windows Update Error Code 80244010 still occurs.

Solution 3: Enable Detection Frequency Policy

There’s a possibility that Error Code 80244010 appears during Windows Update because of issues with the Windows server. Enable to Automatic update Detection Frequency Policy allows WSUS server to update with the same interval.

To do this:

  1. Press Windows key + R on your keyboard to open RUN dialog box.
  2. At RUN dialog box, type gpedit.msc and press Enter or click OK to open local group policy editor. If UAC (user account control) prompt appears, click OK for Administrative access.
  3. On Local Group Policy Editor window, click Computer Configuration at left pane.
  4. Click Administrative Templates to expand it
  5. Click Windows Components to expand it
  6. Click Windows update to expand it.
  7. At right pane, locate Automatic Update Detection frequency and double click. A new window opens.
  8. At new window, click the option Enabled to enable Detection Frequency Policy.
  9. Under Options window, set the interval per hour that is acceptable for all machines. For example, you can set the interval to every 3 hours.
  10. Click Apply to apply changes made.
  11. Click Ok to exit.

Download Windows update again and then check if Windows Update Error Code 80244010 still occurs.
