How To Fix The Samsung Galaxy A40 Black Screen of Death Issue

When your phone screen does not seem to work and all you see is just black then there’s a possibility that this could already be the dreaded Black Screen of Death issue. This particular problem is characterized by the phone screen being completely black and you may or may not receive notifications, calls, or text messages on the device. What we will be doing right now is to check if the problem is caused by a software glitch. Follow the troubleshooting steps listed below to fix the problem.

Make sure the phone is fully charged

The first thing that you will need to do in this case is to make sure that the battery of the phone is fully charged. This will eliminate the possibility of the problem being caused by a drained battery.

  • Clean the charging port of the phone using a can of compressed air making sure to remove any dirt or debris stuck in it.
  • Fully charge the phone with a charging cord and wall charger that have been tested to work on another device.
  • If the phone does not charge with a wall charger then try charging the device from a computer USB port.

Once the battery is fully charged check if the Samsung Galaxy A40 Black Screen of Death issue still occurs.

Start the phone in Safe Mode

There are instances when an app you downloaded from the Google Play Store can cause this particular issue. To check if this is what’s causing the problem will have to start the phone in Safe Mode as only the pre-installed apps are allowed to run in this mode.

  • Turn the device off.
  • Press and hold the Power key past the screen with the device name.
  • When ‘SAMSUNG’ appears on the screen, release the Power key.
  • Immediately after releasing the Power key, press and hold the Volume down key.
  • Continue to hold the Volume down key until the device finishes restarting.
  • Safe mode will display in the bottom left corner of the screen.
  • Release the Volume down key when you see ‘Safe Mode’.

If the issue does not occur in this mode then it is most likely caused by an app you downloaded. Find out what app this is and uninstall it.

Finding the particular app will need a trial and error method. Uninstall the most recent app you downloaded then check if the issue still occurs. Repeat this step until the issue no longer occurs. The last app you uninstalled is most likely the culprit.

Wipe the cache partition

There are instances when a corrupted system cached data can cause this problem. It’s therefore a good idea to delete this data as the phone will just rebuild this data when it starts again.

If the above steps doesn’t fix the problem then you will need to bring the phone to a service center and have it checked as this is most likely caused by a faulty hardware component already.
