  1. From any Home screen, tap Apps.
  2. Tap Settings.
  3. Scroll to ‘APPLICATIONS,’ then tap Application manager.
  4. Swipe right to the ALL screen.
  5. Scroll to and tap Internet.
  6. Tap Clear cache button.
  7. Tap Clear data button, then OK.

Problem: Ok, so, first there was an update for my firmware that bumped the version to Android 5, I believe it was the lollipop update as they call it. Troubleshooting: Hello Fredo! Yeah, I think the second update messed up some of the data of some of your apps especially the Internet’s. I personally encountered a problem like this before wherein a pre-installed app started to crash after I downloaded an update for Google apps and services. Thinking it was just some corrupt files, I cleared both the cache and data of the app, it didn’t work so I tried this procedure:

  1. From any Home screen, tap Apps.
  2. Tap Settings.
  3. Scroll to ‘APPLICATIONS,’ then tap Application manager.
  4. Swipe right to the ALL screen.
  5. Scroll to and tap Google Play Services.
  6. Tap Uninstall updates.

“Unfortunately, Internet has stopped” error shows after lollipop update

Problem: Good morning! I updated my Galaxy S5 phone to Android lollipop last night and I went to bed. This morning, when I woke up, there was an error that says, “Unfortunately, Internet hast stopped.” I thought my internet was messed up so after closing the error window, I tried Twitter and then Facebook and they’re working fine. I let it go thinking it was just a glitch but then the error popped up out of nowhere. Now I’m worried why this error keeps popping up. Help me please. — Sophie

Troubleshooting: Hello Sophie. The problem is clearly caused by the firmware, although it might still be related to some corrupt data or caches but in a larger scale. As you said, the error pops up out of the blue. It means the firmware is the one triggering it and not just other apps. But considering the fact that the error specifically mentioned the name of the app, try to clear the cache and data of the Internet first.

  1. From any Home screen, tap Apps.
  2. Tap Settings.
  3. Scroll to ‘APPLICATIONS,’ then tap Application manager.
  4. Swipe right to the ALL screen.
  5. Scroll to and tap Internet.
  6. Tap Clear cache button.
  7. Tap Clear data button, then OK.

If the problem remained after the procedure above, then this will fix it.

  1. Turn off the device.
  2. Press and hold the following three buttons at the same time: Volume Up key, Home key, and Power key.
  3. When the phone vibrates, release the Power key but continue to press and hold the Volume Up key and the Home key.
  4. When the Android System Recovery screen appears, release the Volume Up and Home keys.
  5. Press the Volume Down key to highlight ‘wipe cache partition.’
  6. Press the Power key to select.
  7. When the wipe cache partition is complete, ‘Reboot system now’ is highlighted.
  8. Press the Power key to restart the device.

Problem: My phone is a Galaxy S5, which I recently updated to lollipop. When I browse the web, I use the stock browser called Internet because I got used to it. I read a lot of stuff so I open more than five tabs while browsing to read some interesting articles online. Troubleshooting: We don’t know for sure if this is just another case of an app crashing but let’s begin our troubleshooting with that assumption. Try clearing the cache and data first and see if that fixes the problem.

  1. From any Home screen, tap Apps.
  2. Tap Settings.

  5. Scroll to and tap Internet.
  6. Tap Clear cache button.

If the issue remained after the procedure, then backup your data and do the master reset as it probably a problem with the firmware.

Full Master Reset

  1. Turn off the device.
  2. Press and hold the following three buttons at the same time: Volume Up key, Home key, and Power key.
  3. When the phone vibrates, release the Power key but continue to press and hold the Volume Up key and the Home key.
  4. When the Android System Recovery screen appears, release the Volume Up and Home keys.
  5. Press the Volume down key several times key to highlight ‘wipe data / factory reset.’
  6. Press Power button to select.
  7. Press the Volume down key until ‘Yes — delete all user data’ is highlighted.
  8. Press Power button to select and start the master reset.
  9. When the master reset is complete, ‘Reboot system now’ is highlighted.
  10. Press the Power key to restart the device.
