How To Fix Google Pixel 3 XL Not Turning On After Charging

Problem: Hi, I recently upgraded to a Google Pixel 3 XL. Everything was working fine until yesterday, when I think I made a mistake and bought an off-brand wireless charger. I used it for the first time yesterday and all seemed well. It charged just fine on the pad, so I went to sleep. Overnight, I was woke up to my phone restarting. I thought it could just be a regular update, so I went back to bed. Later when I got up, and took the phone off the charger I noticed that it had not completely charged during the night. Then, the phone started randomly shutting off. I would turn it back on and decided to give it a rest from the wireless charger and use the cable instead. Now, my phone shut off for a last time and now it is not turning back on. I have it plugged in to the original charger, and there is nothing to indicate that it is charging. No LED, no beeps, it’s not even noticeably warmer.

Next, I reviewed some tips and tried:

  • Holding down the power button for 30 seconds.
  • Holding down the power button and volume down button for 30 seconds.
  • Begging.
  • Bargaining.
  • Charging from a PC.

Nothing is happening on the phone now. Is there anything I should be doing that I am not now? Thank you so much, I know you’re probably flooded with issues! All the best.

Solution: The first thing that you will want to do in this case is to make sure that the battery of the phone has sufficient charge. If the battery is drained then the phone won’t turn on as what’s happening right now. Follow the troubleshooting steps listed below to fix the problem.

Clean the charging port of the phone

The charging port of the phone is  magnet for dust and debris. If these particles gets stuck in the phone charging port then this could interfere with the charging process. You should try cleaning the port using a can of compressed air then proceed with charging the phone.

Try using a different USB cord

One phone accessory that gets easily damaged is the charging cord. When this cord is constantly coiled and bent this has the tendency to cut the wires inside the cord. Try using a different charging cord then check if the phone charges.

Try using a different wall charger

If the charger you are using is not providing the correct output power then the phone will not charge. If you are able to get your hands on another Pixel charger then try using this. If not then try using a third party charger with an output power of 10 watts. Charge the phone for at least 20 minutes.

Perform a soft reset

This procedure is usually performed when the phone is unresponsive or frozen. To do this just press and hold the power button for at least 10 seconds or until the phone power cycles.

In case the above steps fails to fix the problem then you should consider having this issue checked at a service center as this could already be caused by a faulty hardware component.
