How To Fix Apple TV Remote Not Working Issue

Before performing any of the recommended troubleshooting steps for this particular problem you should try to restart the Apple TV device and the TV set first as this will usually resolve most issues caused by a minor software glitch.

Make sure the remote is charged

Charge the Apple TV Remote for 30 minutes using a Lightning to USB cable and a USB wall charger. Once the remote has sufficient charge check if the Apple TV remote not working issue still occurs.

Stay within range of the Apple TV

The Siri Remote relies on Bluetooth connection so make sure to stay within range. If you’re nearby but the volume controls don’t respond, move anything that blocks the path between your remote and the front of your television or receiver.

  • Make sure that you have the latest software for your Apple TV and your iOS device.
  • Download the Apple TV Remote app from the App Store on your device. If you already have it, check that you have the latest version. To find out, open the App Store and tap Updates.
  • Connect your iOS device to the same Wi-Fi network as your Apple TV.
  • Open the Apple TV Remote app on your iOS device, and choose your Apple TV. Don’t see it?
  • On your Apple TV, go to Settings > General > Remotes and enter the four-digit code that appears on your iOS device. If the code doesn’t appear and you can control your Apple TV, your iOS device is already paired and you can start using the app.
