How to troubleshoot LG G7 ThinQ that can’t make / receive phone calls

Before you begin to troubleshoot, check the signal indicator on your phone and make sure it’s getting a good signal. If you’re seeing No signal, No service, or other relevant error prompts, then that should be the main reason why you cannot make or receive phone calls on your LG G7 ThinQ smartphone. In that case, you will need to deal with network problems on your device instead. Network functions, including phone calls should be restored once you’ve fixed and dealt with network problem on your device. Otherwise, try to troubleshoot software problems on your phone that might have caused conflict. Here are some generic solutions for you to try on.

First solution: Reboot your phone (soft reset).

Minor network errors can occur at any time on any device. Thus what you’re going through may be just a random network-related issue on your phone that’s rectifiable by a reboot or soft reset. If you haven’t yet restarted your phone for quite some time now, then try doing so with these steps:

  • Press and hold the Power button and Volume Down button simultaneously for a few seconds and then release both buttons when the phone reboots.

Performing a soft reset likewise refresh the operating system and clears the internal memory from cache and temporary data including those that were corrupted. You don’t need to create backups because this won’t affect saved data on your device.

Second solution: Toggle Airplane mode on and off.

Turning Airplane mode on will disable data and network services on your phone automatically. Thus check and ensure that Airplane mode is turned off on your LG G7 ThinQ. If it’s already turned off but still you cannot make or receive phone calls, then try toggling the Airplane mode switch on for a few seconds and then off again. Many people have already found wonders from doing this old trick when dealing with network-related issues on their Android devices. Here’s how to turn Airplane mode on or off your LG G7 ThinQ:

  1. Tap Settings from the Home screen.
  2. Tap Network & Internet.
  3. Navigate to the Airplane mode menu then tap the switch to turn the feature on. After about 30 seconds, tap the switch again to turn off Airplane Mode.

Reboot your phone one more time and then retry making a test call to see if it’s already working. If it still failed, then continue to troubleshoot software problems on your phone that may have inflicted network or calling problems.

Third solution: Test calling functions while in safe mode.

Safe mode puts your device in diagnostic state. It allows your device to turn on without third-party apps running, making it easier for you to determine whether or not the problem is due to a third-party app. Here’s how to enable safe mode on your LG G7 ThinQ smartphone:

  1. With your phone screen on, press and hold the Power button until the menu options appear.
  2. Press and hold the Power off option.
  3. When you see the message prompt to Restart in Safe Mode, tap OK to confirm.
  4. Wait until your device restarts in safe mode. You will then see the Safe Mode label at the bottom of the screen.

Try to make a test call on your own number and see if you can make and receive it while in safe mode. If your phone is able to make and receive phone calls while in safe mode, then you will need to remove the errant application. Try to think of which apps you’ve downloaded recently is causing conflict or preventing your device from carrying out calling functions. It’s likely the one you’ve installed prior to the onset of the problem. You may have to delete or uninstall individual apps, if necessary.

If you still cannot make or receive phone calls while in safe mode, then you’re likely dealing with a more complex software issue that requires more advanced solutions, including system resets. It’s also possible that your phone is obtaining some sort of physical or liquid damage on the network components thus no longer able to carry out calling functions. In that case, service would be necessary.

Fourth solution: Reset network settings on your phone.

Resetting the network settings on your LG G7 ThinQ may help if the problem is due to network errors on the phone. This reset will clear your current network settings and restore the default values. Any erratic settings will be deleted. Cellular and Wi-Fi network settings including saved networks and passwords as well as Bluetooth connections are also deleted in the process, which means you will need to set them up again after the reset. Whenever you’re all set, follow these steps to reset network settings on your LG G7 ThinQ smartphone:

  1. Tap Settings from the Home screen.
  2. Tap System.
  3. Tap Restart & reset.
  4. Select Network settings reset from the given options.
  5. Tap RESET SETTINGS to continue.
  6. Then tap Reset Settings again to confirm reset.

Allow your device to instigate the network settings reset and then restarts when done. As soon as it’s done restarting, set up Bluetooth connections and re-connect to your Wi-Fi networks.

Network-related issues should be all gone by then.

Fifth solution: Remove and reinstall your SIM card.

Calling problems may also be due to a bad SIM card. Your SIM card may be dislodged and needs to be reseated. To check and ensure that the problem isn’t on the SIM card, follow these steps to remove and reseat the SIM card on your LG G7 ThinQ smartphone:

  1. Turn off your device completely.
  2. Get the insertion/removal tool then insert it into the provided slot on the tray.
  3. When the tray ejects, gently pull it out.
  4. Remove the SIM card from the tray. Carefully lift from the bottom of the card to remove it.
  5. Examine the card for any visible signs of damage. If it looks okay, place it back into the card tray, with the gold contacts facing down.
  6. Insert the card tray.
  7. Press in on the tray until it’s locked into place.

When the tray is locked and secured in place, turn on your phone and then try to make a test call to see if it’s already working as intended.

Other options

If you still cannot make or receive phone calls on your LG G7 ThinQ smartphone after performing all applicable workarounds, then you can report the problem to your network service provider or carrier for further assistance and recommendations. You can ask them to check their outage boards to ensure that the problem isn’t due to an ongoing outage or network maintenance. Also check your account status and make sure it’s in good standing. If necessary, settle any account issues with your carrier to ensure all your outgoing services are active.

If you suspect that a faulty hardware is causing this trouble, then you can take your device to an LG authorized service center nearby and have it diagnosed by an authorized technician. Don’t forget to avail for warranty if your phone is still covered.
