First solution: Force close background apps then restart.

Background apps are imperative for multitasking purposes. Keeping your recently used apps running in the background will help you quickly switch between apps and carry out different tasks simultaneously. Nevertheless, background apps can also crash when they become corrupted. If that happens, there is a chance for other functions, apps or phone system itself to become adversely affected. And in that case, sluggishness or slow performance could be the transpiring symptom. To make sure this isn’t the trigger, forcing background apps to close on your Xperia L2 can help. Here’s how it’s done:

  1. Tap Apps from the Home screen.
  2. Scroll to and tap Settings.
  3. Tap Apps.
  4. Navigate to the Downloaded and Default Apps section, then tap to select individual app to shut down.
  5. Tap Force Stop then OK to confirm.

Once you’re done closing background apps, reboot your device to refresh the system and internal memory. You may opt for a soft reset or force restart then. To perform a soft reset on your Xperia L2, follow these steps:

  1. Press and hold down the Power key for a few seconds until the menu opens.
  2. Tap Restart from the menu options. Doing so will trigger the device to restart automatically.

If you prefer to force restart your Xperia L2, then you may do so with these steps:

Press and hold the Power button and Volume Up button simultaneously for about 10 to 20 seconds until the device restarts.

Allow your device to finish rebooting and then test to see if there are any improvement on its performance.

Second solution: Boot your Xperia L2 into safe mode and manage apps.

Third-party apps are also among the possible culprits. There are many apps that contain some malware or bugs that can slow down your device when implemented. If your device just started to slow down after installing a new app, then that app must be to blame. To help you determine whether the problem is attributed to third-party apps or downloaded contents, enable safe mode on your Xperia L2 and diagnose apps while in safe mode with these steps:

  1. While your device is turned on, press and hold the Power button until the menu options appear.
  2. Tap and hold the Power off option.
  3. When the Safe Mode prompt appears, tap OK.
  4. Wait until your device restart in safe mode. A Safe Mode label will then appear at the bottom left corner of the screen. It means safe mode is activated.

If your device is performing better and faster while in safe mode, then it clearly denotes that the problem is caused by third-party applications. To fix the problem, you will need to determine which app is the culprit and then delete the errant app. To uninstall apps in safe mode, follow these steps:

  1. While your device is running in safe mode, go to the Home screen.
  2. Tap the Apps icon.
  3. Scroll to and tap Settings.
  4. Scroll to Device section then tap Apps.
  5. If necessary, tap the screen and slide right to view and access the Downloaded screen.
  6. Select the most recent app you suspect.
  7. Tap Uninstall then tap OK to confirm.

Alternatively, you can uninstall apps with these quick steps:

  1. Tap and hold on the app icon until the device vibrates.
  2. From the menu that opens, tap X.
  3. Then tap OK to confirm.

You may have to uninstall your recently downloaded apps one by one if you couldn’t figure out which app is the culprit. You can always reinstall safe apps later.

Third solution: Wipe cache partition on your Xperia L2.

Temporary files that are stored as cache on your phone’s internal memory or system partition will also trigger the same issue to arise especially when the get corrupted. The more cache files stacked in the system cache partition, the more likely they can become errant. To prevent this from happening, wiping the cache partition is recommended. In case you haven’t done this yet, then here’s how to wipe cache partition on your Sony Xperia L2 smartphone:

  1. Power off your device.
  2. Press and hold the Volume Up and Power buttons simultaneously for a few seconds.
  3. When the Sony Xperia L2 logo appears, release both buttons. The Recovery screen will then appear.
  4. Press the Volume Down button to scroll to and highlight wipe cache partition option.
  5. Then press the Power button to confirm selection.
  6. Wait until the phone has finished wiping cache partition and highlights the Restart option.
  7. Press the Power button to confirm restart.

Your device should perform better and faster afterwards. But if not, then you’ll need to try other options.

Fourth solution: Update software to the latest version.

Software updates not only bring in new features but also offer system performance enhancements and bug fixes. If the problem is somehow inflicted by some bugs, then installing update will fix it. Just be sure to have enough space to allocate the new update file. If necessary, free up some space of your internal storage by removing all unwanted contents like old messages, unused apps, and unnecessary media files including complex videos, audio files, and photos. To manually check for available software update for your Xperia L2, follow these steps:

  1. Navigate to Settings.
  2. Tap About phone.
  3. Tap Software Update.

You will see an update notification if a new software version is available for your phone. Before you download and install new update, back up your important data for safekeeping. Then follow the onscreen instructions to continue.

Don’t forget to reboot your phone when the update installation is finished to make sure new changes are properly implemented so as to prevent causing the device to misbehave.

Fifth solution: Factory data reset (master reset).

Your last best hope if all else failed to speed up your Xperia L2 again is a master reset or factory data reset. Doing so will wipe everything out from your phone system including any bugs, malwares, and glitches that might have caused your device to slow down. But before you do so, back up all your important data beforehand to recover and use them later. Here’s what you should do then:

  1. Create a backup of your important data stored on the internal memory.
  2. Navigate to Settings.
  3. Tap Backup & reset.
  4. Select Factory data reset from the given options.
  5. Tap Factory data reset to continue.
  6. If prompted, enter your lock screen credentials or unlock password or PIN.
  7. Tap Erase everything to confirm and instigate full system reset.

After the reset, your device will reboot automatically and then boots up with the default settings. You then can set up your device as new.
