First solution: Quit the messaging app then restart your phone.

Random symptom on sending failure may occur when the messaging app is glitching. To deal with it, restart the messaging app and phone system may help. If you haven’t already, restart your HTC U12/12+ and messaging app with these steps:

  1. Tap Settings from the Home screen.
  2. Tap the General tab.
  3. Tap Apps.
  4. Tap to All to view a list of all apps.
  5. Tap to select Messaging app from the list.
  6. Tap Force Stop.
  7. Then tap OK to confirm.

That should force the app to close. After doing so, perform a soft reset or simply restart your phone to dump cache from the internal memory.

  1. Press and hold the Power button for a few seconds until the power options show up.
  2. Select Power off then tap OK. Your phone then turns off.
  3. After 30 seconds, press and hold the Power button again until your phone boots up.

Create a sample MMS message and try to see if you can now send and receive MMS as you normally do on your phone.

Second solution: Delete old threads and message conversations.

Old threads and messages must be deleted to clear up some space of the internal memory and messaging application. There is a higher chance for you not to be able to send text or MMS messages if the message storage is running low. In that case, you will need to delete unwanted messages to free up some space for new messages. Here’s what you should do then:

  1. Open the Messaging app on your phone.
  2. Find and open the conversation you want to delete.
  3. Scroll up and down to locate other old threads, then long press on the conversation until the Message options appear.
  4. Tap the option to Delete message or Delete thread to remove the selected message thread from your conversation history.

You can also set your device to automatically delete all old messages when the maximum number of messages is reached.

  • To do so, open the Messaging app then navigate to the app Settings menu. Under Storage settings, find the option to Delete old messages then mark the check mark next to it to enable the feature.

All old messages will then be deleted automatically when maximum number of messages is reached.

Third solution: Turn mobile data off and on again.

Mobile data is required for you to use MMS service on your device. Thus, try to check and ensure that mobile data is turned on or enabled on your phone. Here’s how to access this option:

  1. Slide your two fingers down from the top edge of the Home screen. Doing so will launch the notification panel.
  2. Navigate to and tap the Mobile Data icon to activate or deactivate the feature. Again, it has to be activated or turned on.
  3. To end the session and return to the Home screen, press the Home key.

After doing so, create a sample MMS message to send and receive. If it still won’t send, move on to the next solution.

Fourth solution: Clear and reset your messaging app.

Resetting the messaging app can resolve various types of messaging issues including MMS sending failure. Doing so will clear any errors and corrupted messages that might have triggered the app to encounter problems. Here’s how it’s done:

  1. Switch to the Apps screen.
  2. Tap Settings (you may need to swipe left or right to locate it first).
  3. Tap Apps.
  4. Select All apps.
  5. Scroll down to locate Messages and tap on it.
  6. Tap Storage.
  7. Tap Clear Data.
  8. Restart your device.

Try sending an MMS message. If it doesn’t work, perform the next method.

Fourth solution: Update your phone software to the latest Android version.

Bugs and malware that affect MMS messaging functions on the phone are usually addressed by an update. Software updates like the latest Android OS version embed fix patches for security enhancements. That’s why it’s recommended. To check for new updates on your HTC U12/12+ smartphone, follow these steps:

  1. Swipe up from the bottom of the Home screen.
  2. Tap Settings.
  3. Scroll to and select Software Update.
  4. Select the option to Download updates manually.
  5. Follow the rest of the onscreen instructions to start download and installing the update file on your device.

Your phone must be connected to the Internet, has enough memory storage and ample battery life to complete the entire updating process.

Fifth solution: Reset your phone to factory defaults (master reset).

As your last resort, you can do a master reset or factory reset on your HTC U12/12+ smartphone. Performing a factory reset will erase all data from your device. On the positive note, any system errors, bugs, corrupted apps and broken data segments are also deleted. Here’s what you should do then:

  1. Back up data on the internal memory.
  2. Be sure the phone is off.
  3. Press and hold the Volume Down key.
  4. Turn the phone on by pressing the Power key until the phone vibrates, then release Power.
  5. Continue holding the Volume Down key.
  6. Release the Volume Down button when the black screen with red and blue lines of text appears.
  7. Press the Volume Down button repeatedly until reboot to bootloader is highlighted, then select it with the Power button.
  8. The device will display a white screen with colored text.
  9. Press the Volume Down button repeatedly until BOOT TO RECOVERY MODE is highlighted, then select it with the Power button. The screen will display the white HTC screen, and then turn black. After several seconds, another black screen with yellow and blue text will appear.
  10. Press the Volume Down button repeatedly until wipe data/factory reset is highlighted, then select it with the Power button.
  11. Press the Volume Down button repeatedly until Yes – delete all user data is highlighted, then select it with the Power button.
  12. Once the data wipe is complete, make sure reboot system now is selected and press the Power button.

Alternatively, you can do the quicker method through Settings-> General Management-> Reset-> Factory data reset menu, then tap RESET to confirm.

Other options

Contact your service provider to verify your account status and make sure that MMS services are good and active. Account-related issues are also among the possible reasons as to why you may not be able to send MMS and SMS or make phone calls. Also check for any on-going outages that might have caused network services to go down in your place.

Alternatively, you can reach out to Samsung Support for further assistance and other options if the problem started after installing a new firmware update. In that case, the problem could be due to an update bug and therefore, a fix patch is needed.
