The Nokia 8 smartphone has been around since October of last year. After half a year of regular usage, you can expect random issues to occur on the phone every now and then. Nonetheless, this may vary depending on how the device is being used. With heavy usage, performance issues tied to a shrinking memory space are likely to surface at this point. In worst case scenarios hardware-related issues may occur with previous instances of dropping or liquid exposure on the phone. Tackled in this post is an issue on the Nokia 8 that can be attributed to a software problem or hardware damage. Read on to find out what to do if your Nokia 8 suddenly refuses to power on. Try these workarounds before taking a trip to a service center for repair options.

First workaround: Let it charge for at least 30 minutes.
It is possible that your phone won’t turn on simply because it ran out of power. To make sure this isn’t the case, plug your phone to charge for at least 30 minutes or up to an hour. That should be enough time for your device to power up unless it’s not charging. You can try switching between available chargers to rule charging issue out from the possible cause. Just be sure to use a compatible charger if not the original charger for your Nokia 8. You’ll know if your phone is charging if you see the charging indicator or battery icon on the screen when it’s connected to the power source. If you don’t any charging icon on the screen, then your phone is likely not charging. And that’s what you need to deal with first.
Second workaround: Force it to restart while charging.
Sometimes, a device gets stuck on a black screen even with enough battery life left due to system errors and bugs. In this case, the phone system isn’t working as intended. To fix it, you can try performing a force reboot while your phone is charging. This forcibly ends all crashing apps and erratic processes that caused your device to get stuck on black screen. Here’s how it’s done:
- Simultaneously press and hold the Volume Up button and Power button for a few seconds or until your device power cycles.
This won’t affect any of your personal information and critical data stored on the internal memory of your phone so no need to worry of data loss. If this doesn’t help either, try the next workaround.
Third workaround: Remove any SD card/external devices from your phone (if applicable).
Corrupted contents or data segments in the SD card can also cause your device to act this way. Just like what usually occurs to a computer when a corrupted SD card is inserted. If it doesn’t power on, it gets stuck on black screen or bootloops. To make sure this isn’t what’s preventing your Nokia 8 from turning on, remove the SD card from the phone then try to restart it without an SD card inserted.
Fourth workaround: Try to access your phone on a computer.
Try to connect your phone to a computer using the supplied USB and see if your computer detects your Nokia 8. If it’s recognized by the computer, try to backup your data or move all your important files to the computer, if possible. This may be your last chance to access your data.
Fifth workaround: Use an Android recovery/repair software to backup and restore your phone.
A lot of Android recovery and repair tools are now available for downloads online. You may take advantage of these tools in attempting to revive your phone. Just select the most credible and compatible software for your device then download and install it on your computer. Once installed completely, connect your Nokia 8 to your computer and try to access it through the Android system recovery/repair software. Usually, there are designated command buttons for you to click on in order to proceed and complete the Android system repair or restore process by then. Just follow the onscreen prompts to finish the entire procedure.
Factory reset your Nokia 8, if possible
If you’ve managed to turn your phone back on after performing any of the aforementioned workarounds, perform a master reset through the settings menu or reset your Nokia 8 through Android recovery mode with these steps:
- Use the micro USB cable to plug in your phone to a computer then continue with these steps:
- Press and hold the Volume Up button for a few seconds.
- When the Android logo appears, release the button.
- Press the Volume Up button and Power button simultaneously to enter recovery mode.
- While in recovery mode, press the Volume Up or Volume Down button to navigate to the given options then press the Power button to confirm selection.
- To do a master reset, press the Volume Down button to highlight Wipe data/factory reset option.
- Then press the Power button to confirm selection.
- Press the Volume Down button again to highlight Yes — delete all user data option.
- Then press the Power button to confirm selection.
- Wait until your phone is done erasing all your data, customized settings and apps from your device.
- When it’s done, the Reboot system now option is highlighted.
- Press the Power button to reboot your phone.
If you wish to reset your phone through settings, just head over to Settings-> Backup & Reset-> Factory Data Reset-> Reset Device. Finally, tap Erase Everything to confirm master reset. That should fix any software malfunctions tied to system bugs and/or apps glitches unless a hardware damage is present on the phone.
Repair options. Consider taking your device to a service center after you’ve exhausted all possible means to fix the problem on your end but still your Samsung Galaxy S9 doesn’t power on. There might be some sort of hardware damage that needs physical repair so as to get your phone back to life.
