How to factory reset on Samsung Galaxy S8

If you own a high-end device like the Galaxy S8 it is imperative that you learn how to factory reset it. This process is useful especially if your phone is experiencing software-related issues. It will bring the device back to its default settings and will wipe all the apps installed, as well as the files you installed in the internal storage. There are two ways to factory reset your Galaxy S8. One is thru the Settings and the other with the help of hardware buttons.

How to factory reset on Samsung Galaxy S8 via Settings menu:

  1. Back up data on the internal memory. If you have signed into a Google account on the device, you have activated Anti-theft and will need your Google credentials to finish the factory reset.
  2. From the Home screen, swipe up on an empty spot to open the Apps tray.
  3. Tap Settings.
  4. Tap Cloud and accounts.
  5. Tap Backup and restore.
    • If desired, tap Back up my data to move the slider to ON or OFF.
    • If desired, tap Restore to move the slider to ON or OFF.
  6. Tap the back button to the Settings menu.
  7. Tap General Management.
  8. Tap Reset.
  9. Tap Factory data reset.
  10. Tap Reset device.
  11. If you have screen lock turned on, enter your credentials.
  12. Tap Continue.
  13. Tap Delete all.

How to factory reset on Samsung Galaxy S8 using hardware buttons

  1. Create a backup of your data.
  2. Turn off the device.
  3. Press and hold the Volume Up key and the Bixby key, then press and hold the Power key.
  4. When the green Android logo displays, release all keys (‘Installing system update’ will show for about 30 – 60 seconds before showing the Android system recovery menu options).
  5. Press the Volume down key several times to highlight ‘wipe data / factory reset’.
  6. Press Power button to select.
  7. Press the Volume down key until ‘Yes — delete all user data’ is highlighted.
  8. Press Power button to select and start the master reset.
  9. When the master reset is complete, ‘Reboot system now’ is highlighted.
  10. Press the Power key to restart the device.
