How To Cancel Spotify Premium

You might’ve thought that Spotify was a great service and decided that signing up for Premium would be a really good idea. Maybe something happened later where you decided you couldn’t afford it anymore, or maybe you just didn’t like the value that Spotify was offering compared to other music streaming services out there. Either way, now you want to cancel your Spotify Premium account, but aren’t sure how. It’s almost funny, because almost every service out there makes it impossible to easily cancel a subscription — there are either a lot of hoops that you have to go through, or it’s buried in a menu tree somewhere. That same practice goes for Spotify Premium, unfortunately.

So if you follow along below, we’ll show you how to skip the tedious process of digging for the cancellation button in Spotify premium. We’ll get right to the point so you can stop that automatic recurring billing!

Your Spotify Subscription

First, we need to check what type of Spotify subscription you have, or even if you’re subscribed to Spotify at all. To do this, you will need to navigate to www.accounts.spotify.com and log in with your primary Spotify login information.

On the left hand side of the screen, you’ll see a navigation menu. All the way at the bottom you should see a Subscription tab. Click on it. Here, Spotify will show you you are subscribed to the music streaming service. It’ll show you if you if Spotify handles your subscription or if you’re subscribed through some other means, such as an Apple ID. Cancelling your Spotify description highly depends on how you are subscribed. If you’re subscribed directly, this is how you can easily cancel it:

Stop Spotify Subscription With Spotify

If you already closed the page, navigate back to www.accounts.spotify.com. Now, we’ll need to head back down to the Subscriptions tab we were just on. If you subscribed to Spotify with Spotify, then this is also the area where you can cancel your subscription.

If you are indeed subscribed to Spotify this way, you should see the option to Cancel or Change your subscription. Next, it’s as simple as clicking Cancel Premium, and then confirm by clicking the Yes, Cancel button.

Congratulations, you’re unsubscribed from Spotify Premium!

Cancelling Spotify with iTunes

If you subscribed to Spotify with an iPhone, iPad or Mac, chances are, Apple handles all the billing in this case, so you’ll have to cancel the subscription through Apple. Here are the steps to cancel with your iPhone or iPad:

  1. Unlock your device and head into the Settings app.
  2. Click on your Apple ID. You’ll likely have to re-enter your username and password for security reasons.
  3. Once logged in, under Account Settings click on the Subscriptions links.
  4. This will bring up a list of all the services that you’re subscribed to via iTunes. You should see Spotify on there. Click it.
  5. Finally, simply click on the Cancel Subscription button.

If you don’t have an iPad or iPhone, it’s easy to cancel Spotify via a Mac or Windows PC with iTunes installed as well.

You’ll need to open iTunes. At the top of the applications, you’ll need to click on the View My Account button. Similar to the iPhone or iPad process, you’ll need to re-enter your Apple ID details here, which is generally your email and the password you set with it.

Once logged in, just navigate to the Settings option, and then click on the Manage button next to the Subscriptions link. This should bring up a list of all the subscriptions that you have, and you should see Spotify in that list. Click the Edit button to the left of the Spotify option and press the Cancel Subscription button.

Congratulations, you are completely unsubscribed from Spotify Premium and won’t be charged any further.

Deleting Your Spotify Account

In some cases, you might want to delete your Spotify account entirely. It’s important to make sure that you’ve stopped any subscriptions before deleting. Closing an account should automatically stop the subscription, but it might not necessarily do that in the event that you’re subscribed by, say, Apple iTunes. To close your account, just navigate to Spotify’s Close Account Support page. Spotify will take you through the steps necessary to close the account.

Verdict

As you can see, it can be a bit of a complicated process to close your Spotify account. They certainly don’t make it quick and easy, especially if you’re subscribed by way of Apple iTunes and your Apple ID.
