Problem #1: Galaxy S7 cellular signal drops most of the time

Dear Support. I want to troubleshoot my S7 phone immediately since it’s a basic features of a smartphone and also it’s a very difficult situation most of the time to tolerate. The issue is that signal drops all the time and I actually notice it after Android Nougat 7 update only. When I am trying to call, suddenly signal gets dropped and the round icon appear and then need to restart the phone to get the signal back. I tried many ways to solve the issue but still couldn’t. Please be kind enough to solve the issue as soon as possible. I will be grateful if you can respond quickly. Thanks & Regards. — Jeyaweera

Solution: Hi Jeyaweera. If you’re positive that the problem started only after you installed Android Nougat, then the basic device troubleshooting that we usually recommend should help.

Wipe the cache partition

The first thing that you want to do is wipe the cache partition to ensure that the system cache is not corrupted. Here’s how you do it:

  1. Turn off your Samsung Galaxy S7.
  2. Press and then hold the Home and Volume UP keys, then press and hold the Power key.
  3. When the Samsung Galaxy S7 shows on the screen, release the Power key but continue holding the Home and Volume Up keys.
  4. When the Android logo shows, you may release both keys and leave the phone be for about 30 to 60 seconds.
  5. Using the Volume Down key, navigate through the options and highlight ‘wipe cache partition.’
  6. Once highlighted, you may press the Power key to select it.
  7. Now highlight the option ‘Yes’ using the Volume Down key and press the Power button to select it.
  8. Wait until your phone is finished doing the Master Reset. Once completed, highlight ‘Reboot system now’ and press the Power key.
  9. The phone will now reboot longer than usual.

Install app updates

Once you’ve cleared the cache partition, the next best thing to do is to ensure that all your apps are updated and compatible with the operating system. A lot of Android users don’t usually do this step, which often results to a lot of problems. As a user, it’s your responsibility to ensure that you only install apps designed or updated to work with the current Android version running in the device. We don’t know what apps you install so we cannot be more specific which apps to update. The general rule is to check every app and see if any of them is compatible by visiting their installation page in Google Play Store (we assume you don’t install apps from third party sources). If you are getting apps outside of the Play Store, it’s your job to make sure that those apps receive updates regularly as well. Just keep in mind that not all apps are built with the same expertise and resources. Some developers may be new and may not have the resources to regularly check their products to work with the most recent Android version. If you happen to install a poorly coded application, it may result to incompatibility issues which can also involve other apps in the system.

Observe the phone in safe mode

If you install third party apps without bothering to check its sources, there’s a chance that one of them may be problematic. The problem is, there is no way to know what particular app may be causing the problem. The only way to know is run the phone in safe mode and observe it. Below are the steps on how to boot your phone to safe mode:

  1. Turn your Galaxy S7 off.
  2. Press and hold the Power button.
  3. Once the ‘Samsung Galaxy S7’ logo appears, release the Power key and immediately press and hold the Volume Down button.
  4. Continue holding the button until the phone finishes rebooting.
  5. Once you see the text “Safe mode” at the bottom left corner of the screen, release the Volume Down button.

If voice calling works fine and the problem disappears while the phone is in safe mode, that’s a sign that one of your installed third party apps is to blame. You should uninstall apps until the issue disappears.

Do a factory reset

Should nothing work and the issue continues in safe mode, there may be a software bug causing it. You must do a factory reset to fix it. Here’s how:

  1. Create a backup of your important files such as photos, videos, contacts etc. You can use Smart Switch for this task.
  2. Turn off your Samsung Galaxy S7.
  3. Press and then hold the Home and Volume UP keys, then press and hold the Power key.
  4. When the Samsung Galaxy S7 shows on the screen, release the Power key but continue holding the Home and Volume Up keys.
  5. When the Android logo shows, you may release both keys and leave the phone be for about 30 to 60 seconds.
  6. Using the Volume Down key, navigate through the options and highlight ‘wipe data / factory reset.’
  7. Once highlighted, you may press the Power key to select it.
  8. Now highlight the option ‘Yes — delete all user data’ using the Volume Down key and press the Power button to select it.
  9. Wait until your phone is finished doing the Master Reset. Once completed, highlight ‘Reboot system now’ and press the Power key.
  10. The phone will now reboot longer than usual.

Problem #2: Galaxy S7 screen in unresponsive and won’t turn on

I’m using a Samsung S7 edge. I was reading my message when my phone shut down. I still have 46 % battery. I turn it on again and the Samsung logo appeared but the screen is unresponsive for my password. I did try to switch it on but there was a crackling sound while the logo is trying to appear then suddenly it shutdown again. now… I tried to charge it but it won’t charge. my charger works for other phone. my phone screen now is black but the return button is lighted. — Des

Solution: Hi Des. If the LED light still turns on when you connect your S7 to a charger but the screen remains black, that’s telltale sign of screen malfunction. We have no idea what happened to your phone prior to noticing the problem but if the LED still works, that’s a sign that the phone may still be operational although the screen is not. To fix the issue, you must send the phone in so it can be repaired or replaced.

Problem #3: Galaxy S7 stops responding and won’t turn on

How to Fix Samsung Galaxy S7 Won’t Turn On. Hi. My Samsung Galaxy S7 edge, has an error, and I’m afraid it is a hardware problem. usually it happen when I’m doing something with photos (deleting, copying or moving), but, also during recording in slow motion.

So, working on photos it stops and don’t respond, just, it freeze last view and put a thick multi color horizontal line for some seconds (5-15 sec) then it stops. Earlier restarted many times automatically until its battery fully discharges, but, now it stops and doesn’t respond on pressed power key or any combined power keys. I have to wait until its battery discharges fully, then, I have to charge the battery again and it happen to work perfect for two or three weeks (sometimes less maybe just one day). If you could help me, please, give me any option what to do! I have made some pictures but here isn’t possibility to attach them. Regards. — Elmi

Solution: Hi Elmi. Troubleshooting in this case is simple. First, you want to try all relevant software troubleshooting like the ones we suggest for Jeyaweera above. Any of the above procedures should fix the problem is the cause is software-related. If nothing changes after doing a factory reset, that’s an indication that the issue is beyond your level to fix. In that case, you should find a way to have the phone repaired or replaced.

Problem #4: Galaxy S7 unable to respond to group message after an update

Since the 2017 April update, when I send a group text to employees and then want to reply with a follow up but remove some of the people in the group (as it doesn’t pertain to them anymore), I cannot. Before the update, you could go into the initial text and look at the people in the group and there was a red – so you could delete them when sending additional information. It is no longer there and I cannot figure out how to work with the list that is there now as it doesn’t do anything. Help! Hate updates sometimes! Thank you! PS down below it wants the Android version…I don’t know what that is…whatever comes with the phone. I picked “O”. — Ellen

Solution: Hi Ellen. Some updates can sometimes include modifications that may no longer support previous app behaviors so there’s nothing much that any user can do about it. Such changes are intentional modifications by the developer so all you can do as a user is to let the pertinent party (in this case the developer of the app) know that you find the modification unacceptable and hopefully they’ll act on it.

There are also times that developers may not be able to anticipate bugs following an update. If the problem is pervasive and annoying enough, there may be a sudden report or feedback from users about it to alert the developer. Such coding problems are often fixed by a patch.

In some cases, a user may be able to fix a particular app problem by deleting the individual app cache and data. If you haven’t done it yet, we recommend that you try it first before contacting the developer of the app. Here are the steps on what you want to do:

  1. Open the Settings menu either through your notification shade (drop-down) or through the Settings app in your app drawer.
  2. Navigate down to “Apps”. This may be renamed to something like Applications or Application Manager in OEM skinned versions of Android 6.0.
  3. Once in there, click on an application.
  4. You’ll now see a list of stuff that gives you information about the app, including Storage, Permissions, Memory Use, and more. These are all clickable items. You’ll want to click on Storage.
  5. You should now clearly see the Clear Data and Clear Cache buttons for the application.

Problem #5: Galaxy S7 can receive but cannot send email

Hello. I have the S7 and use the mail app for my work email (Outlook). On the S6 I could also receive and send emails from my personal email (Hotmail). The S7 will receive them but I can not send. Is this a phone thing that I can change setting for?

I have spoken to Hotmail and they claim they do not restrict other apps from sending email and it’s a Samsung thing. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thank you. — Randy

Solution: Hi Randy. There are not enough workable information that we can use to identify the problem. Telling us that you’re unable to send an email is not very helpful. We don’t think it’s a Samsung issue though as we use our own personal Hotmail in one of our S7 devices and it works flawlessly. There’s either a configuration problem somewhere, or your Hotmail account is problematic. Try to delete your email account from the mail app and set it up again. Be sure to use the correct email settings to do it. If you aren’t sure what they are, contact your email service provider for the correct information.

Problem #6: Galaxy S7 edge wallpaper reverts to original after restart

I’ve been trying to troubleshoot an annoying bug on my S7 Edge which every time I turn the phone off the wallpaper on my home screen resets to the factory one. I’ve tried wiping the cache through boot menu and applying a launcher but still get the same results. I’ve also tried having the wallpaper on the internal memory and used a wallpaper that was preinstalled with the device and the results are the same. Goes back to the manufacture wallpaper when you first turn on the device. I don’t use the phone because of this. Thank you for your time and will be checking my email for a response. — Alex

Solution: Hi Alex. We don’t see this issue when using the native launcher so it’s either a third party launcher problem, or there’s another app causing it. Try to use the native Touch Wiz launcher first and see if it works. If it doesn’t wipe the phone by doing a factory reset and immediately check if this wallpaper bug is fixed. Be sure not to reinstall apps and updates right after a factory reset so you can see the difference.

  1. Create a backup of your important files such as photos, videos, contacts etc. You can use Smart Switch for this task.
  2. From the Home screen, tap the Apps icon.
  3. Find and tap Settings and then touch Backup and reset.
  4. Tap Factory data reset and touch Reset device.
  5. If you have screen lock feature turned on, enter your password or PIN.
  6. Touch Continue.
  7. Tap Delete all to confirm your action.

Problem #7: Galaxy S7 rear camera does not focus

Hey. So my Samsung Galaxy S7 rear camera does not focus. Front camera works fine. I tried opening the camera app on safe mode and clearing cache and data of the camera and rebooting but the camera still does not focus. It seems that it’s not a software issue but a hardware issue. The glass piece is not cracked or open in anyway. I don’t know what to do but your help would be appreciated. — Mostafa

Solution: Hi Mostafa. If resetting the camera app settings and factory reset won’t fix your issue, then you can assume that it’s a hardware issue. If you already tried both software procedures before, then your only option right now is to contact Samsung so you can request for a replacement.

Problem #8: Galaxy S7 edge screen becomes unresponsive after updating to Nougat

I am using Samsung S7 Edge. After updating to Nougat, phone goes unresponsive with beep sound, blue box switching between the tabs on screen. sound comes repetitively, no apps works that time. only I can turn off screen using power button. I cant even switch off, – switch off menu comes – but I cant select anything. happening more often- monthly 2-3 times. after 4-5 hrs works normally. — Chethan

Solution: Hi Chethan. Please do the suggestions we provide for Jeyaweera above. If all of these procedures won’t work, there may be a coding issue with the firmware version you installed. If you downloaded the update by air, contact your carrier so they can report the issue to their software developer.

If you updated Android by other means, revert it to the previous Android version, or make sure that you use the correct firmware version for your phone model.

Problem #9: Galaxy S7 Bluetooth issues after installing Android Nougat

Since the Nougat update, when I try to do voice to text in the car, it doesn’t pick up via the car microphone and music keeps playing.  When I turn off the car, listening to music via the bluetooth connection, it used to pause, when the connection to the car was turned off. Now the phone keeps playing and I have to go into the app and pause it, to keep the music from playing. — Murfman

Solution: Hi Murfman. There may be a compatibility issue causing this problem so the first thing that you want to do is to ensure that you troubleshoot your device by wiping the cache partition and by doing a factory reset on it. Once you’ve done that, try to factory reset your Bluetooth car kit as before pairing your S7 to it. In most cases, factory resetting both devices fixes a problem like this but if nothing works, contact your car kit maker and see if it needs an update so it works with your S7.
