If you have already tried some troubleshooting steps before emailing us, make sure to mention them so we can skip them in our answers.
Below are specific topics we’re bringing for you today:
Problem 1: Galaxy S7 won’t allow access to email inboxes
After a recent automatic update on my Galaxy S7, I can’t access all my email inboxes like before unless if I’m on easy mode. If I’m on standard mode with my theme on, and icons arranged how I want them, I can tell I have an email on one of my email accounts, however, when I click on the email app, there is no top left 3 lines with options of bringing up different email accounts. Pretty much I’m stuck with just one email and can’t view anything else. It’s annoying having to change modes just to access a different email account. — Jada
Solution: Hi Jada. Updates can sometimes modify some features or pre-installed apps behaviors. This is either by design, or caused by a bug. Try wiping the email app’s cache and data and see how it goes. Here’s how:
- Open the Settings menu either through your notification shade (drop-down) or through the Settings app in your app drawer.
- Navigate down to “Apps”. This may be renamed to something like Applications or Application Manager in OEM skinned versions of Android 6 or 7.
- Once in there, click on an application.
- You’ll now see a list of stuff that gives you information about the app, including Storage, Permissions, Memory Use, and more. These are all clickable items. You’ll want to click on Storage.
- You should now clearly see the Clear Cache and Clear Data buttons for the application.
If wiping the email app’s cache and data won’t work, try using a different email app.
If you think finding a fix is worth the hassle, you can also try factory reset to revert all software and pre-installed apps settings to defaults.
- Create a backup of your important files such as photos, videos, contacts etc. You can use Smart Switch for this task.
- Turn off your Samsung Galaxy S7.
- Press and then hold the Home and Volume UP keys, then press and hold the Power key.
- When the Samsung Galaxy S7 shows on the screen, release the Power key but continue holding the Home and Volume Up keys.
- When the Android logo shows, you may release both keys and leave the phone be for about 30 to 60 seconds.
- Using the Volume Down key, navigate through the options and highlight ‘wipe data / factory reset.’
- Once highlighted, you may press the Power key to select it.
- Now highlight the option ‘Yes — delete all user data’ using the Volume Down key and press the Power button to select it.
- Wait until your phone is finished doing the Master Reset. Once completed, highlight ‘Reboot system now’ and press the Power key.
- The phone will now reboot longer than usual.
Problem 2: Galaxy S7 edge not showing notifications of a bank app
Recently purchased S7 edge. Before, I had an S6 edge+. With the S6 I could receive alert messages from my bank about the status of my account. (New deposits, low balance etc.) I am no longer receiving those alert messages with S7. It won’t even allow me to reset the service up on this phone. I’ve gone through every setting I can think of but can’t fix/find the problem. Please help. These notification are very important for me. — Dawnshec
Solution: Hi Dawnshec. We don’t think there’s anything that you can do on your end about the issue. If you’ve already tried wiping the cache and data of the app in question (steps provided above), and updated it to the most recent version, the issue is most probably code-related. This means that app’s developer may have changed how it should behave recently, or there’s a coding problem (bug) causing the notifications. Either way, you must contact the app developer or your bank for support as this is not a phone issue.
We assume of course that you’ve already made sure, before contacting us, that the notifications for this particular app has been set up properly. To see if that’s the case, follow the steps below:
- Open the Settings app.
- Tap Notifications.
- Tap ADVANCED on the upper right hand side.
- Find the app in question and tap it.
- Make sure that you enable Allow notifications option by sliding the slider to the right.
- If you want, you can let the phone display notifications for this app in the Lock screen by selecting Show content under On lock screen option.
Problem 3: Galaxy S7 edge on setup wizard
My Samsung Galaxy S7 edge is stuck on setup wizard. It was done by accident and no one seems to know how to fix it. I’m making monthly payments on a phone I can’t use. My wireless carrier is Verizon. Verizon says it’s a Google problem. I’ve reset my Google password several times already and it’s not helping. — Mrskentdingaling
Solution: Hi Mrskentdingaling. What exactly do you mean by stuck on setup wizard? Are you getting an error message? Please give us more information than what you tell us here like the history of the phone and steps that led to the problem. Telling us you’re stuck does not help at all. Help us by giving as much information about the issue and your device so we can help you properly. Once you provide a complete account of what happened, we’ll update this post accordingly.
Problem 4: Galaxy S7 edge contacts hard to see due to color schemes
I have a Samsung Galaxy S7 edge. When i look at my contact details i see the name but can’t see the rest of the screen so unable to view contact phone number. It appears the lower 2/3 rds of the screen is white and the contact details are in a orange colour but are so light they blend in with the rest of screen. — Carl
Solution: Hi Carl. Try changing some settings under Display option such as Screen zoom and font (Settings>Display>Screen zoom and font).
If that won’t change anything, considering using the theme (Settings>Wallpapers and themes).
Problem 5: Galaxy S7 text blocked by keyboard, can’t see text when typing
When I’m typing a text me message, the text box doesn’t expand with the length of the text. The text just disappears behind the keyboard and I can’t see what I’m typing. I can’t move the screen up or down. This is on Galaxy S7. Thanks for your help. — Sharon
Solution: Hi Sharon. We’re assume you’re using the native Samsung Messages app here. If that’s the case, you are most probably using the default Samsung keyboard as well. To see if it’s a Samsung keyboard issue, make sure that you reset its settings back to default by doing the following:
- Open the messaging app and start typing a text message.
- On the virtual keyboard, tap the icon to the left of the space bar (gear icon).
- Scroll to the bottom part and tap Reset settings.
Alternatively, you can also try to wipe the data of the keyboard app you’re using by doing these steps:
- Open the Settings menu either through your notification shade (drop-down) or through the Settings app in your app drawer.
- Navigate down to “Apps”. This may be renamed to something like Applications or Application Manager in OEM skinned versions of Android 6 or 7.
- Tap the three-dot icon on the upper right hand side and select Show system apps.
- Look for the keyboard app you’re having problems with and tap it.
- You’ll now see a list of stuff that gives you information about the app, including Storage, Permissions, Memory Use, and more. These are all clickable items. You’ll want to click on Storage.
- You should now clearly see the Clear Cache and Clear Data buttons for the application. Tap Clear Data button.
Problem 6: Galaxy S7 edge can’t open PDF file, keeps saying file is corrupted
Recently my GS7 Edge has had trouble opening any files that I download. I keep getting this message that says “we can’t open the file because it is corrupted” or something like that. But it used to open files with no issues. And the problem is with any pdf files i download. Seen this before? Thanks so much for any help. — Matthew
Solution: Hi Matthew. You can only open downloaded files in a Galaxy S7 if you have a working compatible app that can read it. The most likely reason for the problem, assuming that you’re of course trying to open a good PDF file and not a corrupted one, is the app that’s trying to open the file. To fix the problem, simply wipe the cache and data of the said app. Refer to the steps above on how to do that.
Problem 7: Galaxy S7 stuck in T-Mobile logo screen
Hello. I’m reaching out to you guys/gals in hopes that you’d be able to tell me what’s wrong with my device. I have an S7 and after a recent update on my phone. It no longer boots passed the T-Mobile logo on startup. I toyed around with it a little and found that after a hard reset it works fine. That is until i sign into all my accounts (Google, Samsung ect…). then it updates everything on the phone and after that once it turns off or restarts it’s the same issue again — stuck on T-Mobile logo.
Some other details is while using the phone sometimes it’ll say things like “Google+ has stopped working” and all that nonsense. please get back to me with any information you can. — Tyler31914
Solution: Hi Tyler31914. We don’t know nothing about your system and whether or not you rooted or modified its software with a non-official one before. If you did any of the two, we suggest that you flash the stock software back.
We are assuming though that you never rooted nor installed a custom or non-official firmware. Based on how you describe the issue, the cause is probably a bad bootloader, which is a piece of code that runs before Android operating system loads. The phone’s bootloader may be corrupted preventing the operating system from working properly. If it’s not a bad bootloader, you may end up flashing the firmware. We strongly suggest that you try to flash the bootloader first though. Below are the steps on how to do this. Keep in mind though that the exact steps may vary depending on your phone model. The steps provided here are only for demonstration purposes only. Make sure to do some research on how to flash the bootloader or firmware on your phone.
- Look for the correct firmware for your phone model and download it. Make sure that you select the right one. It should be the same exact firmware that ran previously on your device. We assume that you list down the firmware version somewhere. If you did not take note of it before, there’s a chance that you may pick the wrong one. As you may know now, using an incorrect firmware can cause complications so good luck with that.
- Let’s now say that you have identified the correct firmware. You then want to download it to your computer. The firmware file should have a bunch of files in it like AP_, BL_, CSC_, etc.
- Look for the file that starts with a label BL; this should be the corresponding bootloader file for this firmware. Once you’ve identified the bootloader file, copy it to your computer’s desktop or to any other folder that you can easily access.
- Proceed with the rest of the flashing procedure using the Odin program.
- In Odin, click on the BL tab and make sure to use the bootloader file you’ve identified earlier.
- Now, make sure that the “Device Added” status and its “ID:COM box” has turned blue before hitting the START button. This will initiate the flashing of your phone’s bootloader.
- Restart the phone once the procedure is finished.

Hi. I purchased my Samsung Galaxy S7 when they were first on the market. After a few days i didn’t like it so put it away in a cupboard. I have just brought it back out to try again. I have tried several cables, chargers and even plugged it into my PC where there was not even a flicker of anything. Please help. Many thanks in advance. Kind regards. — Patricia
Solution: Hi Patricia. Try to do a master reset first and see what happens. Here’s how:

- Press and then hold the Home and Volume UP keys, then press and hold the Power key.
- When the Samsung Galaxy S7 shows on the screen, release the Power key but continue holding the Home and Volume Up keys.

If a master reset won’t fix it, please refer to the suggestions we have for Tyler31914 above.
Problem 9: Galaxy S7 won’t load to normal mode
Hi. I’ve only had my Samsung S7 for merely 7 months and I’ve had several Samsung phones but this has never not once happened to me. my phone was lagging so i decided to reboot it that is after i had manually stopped all running apps. When i rebooted my phone it did not want to go beyond the Samsung logo (with colorful space like graffics). As i had mentioned, this has never happened to me. my other Samsung phones have lasted 2 years and a half at the most before i willingly update it (model wise). my contacts and pictures are not backed up. PLEASE HELP ME. — Laine
Solution: Hi Laine. Please check our suggestions for Tyler31914 and Patricia above.
Problem 10: Galaxy S7 not downloading emails
This is on a work phone (Microsoft Exchange email). Most of my email folders are now showing “No email – you may have emails that have not been retrieved from the server.” I have checked sync settings and all appear to be set to allow for auto sync-ing. I’m not aware of any Outlook updates that have occurred, though, I may be incorrect. Also, I have not changed any settings myself. — John
Solution: Hi John. If you’re dealing with a work email issue, we recommend that you speak to your company’s IT guys first. We know nothing about how your system works and there are a lot of things that only your email administrator can check. As far as device troubleshooting is concerned, we suggest the following:
- remove your email account from the phone and reconfigure it.
- wipe the cache and data of the email app (check the steps above).
- do a factory reset.
Problem 11: Galaxy S7 can’t send email due to email server error
I cannot send or reply to emails on my Bellsouth account. A day or so later I get a failed to send notice, due to email server error. Then when I go to a different screen, I can’t get back to retrieve them in the Bellsouth menu options . This is AT&T powered by Yahoo which is going through a corporate divorce of sorts. The wifi connections are good and the very same email retyped on my laptop goes thru just fine. This also had happened intermittently on my Galaxy 4. Help, this is very annoying.
On a separate note how do I stop the gray character bubbles on certain words that appear when I’m typing a text? They block me from typing corrections or finishing a word and often insist on substituting an emoji? Thanks, I hope you can help me figure this out. — Genessagp
Slution: Hi Genessagp. We don’t think this is an app or device issue but we suggest that you try the steps we provide for John above. If they won’t fix the issue, talk to the email service provider for support.
We don’t think we understand what you’re describing in your second issue. Please get back to us with more information such as the name of the messaging app and keyboard app you’re using, as well as the possible steps that you may have done that may have led to this issue. We’ll update this post once you provide us with more information.
Problem 12: PC won’t detect Galaxy S7, won’t fast charge anymore
Hi. When I connect my Samsung S7 to my computer, my Windows PC gives the notification “USB device not recognized.” I have Smart switch installed on the computer and tried to reinstall the drivers. Nothing works.
Also after the Nougat update my phone won’t fast charge anymore. I tried factory reset (2x) but nothing works. Please help me. I am getting SO frustrated. Kind regards. — Kenny
Solution: Hi Kenny. Try using a different USB cable first and see if that will change anything. If nothing changes, the most likely cause of the problem is a bad charging port. This is the main reason for a lot of phones that suddenly stopped fast charging. Send the phone in or have it replaced.
Sometimes when i’m trying to write something with my Samsung S7 (any app or even on the internet) it only writes the first letter and if i write more, that letter gets replaces with the first one. So theres only one letter changing all the time. The only solution is to write the first ketter’ press space, then delete, write the second letter and do the same process. Do you know hoe to fix it?? Thank you!
