How To Block Text Messages On LG V40 ThinQ

Do you have someone in your life that is texting you incessantly? Or, maybe you’re getting frequent text messages from spammers that you want to stop receiving. No matter what your reason is, the LG V40 ThinQ makes it really easy to block their number, stopping them from not only texting you, but calling you as well.

Unfortunately, it’s just not possible to “only” stop someone from texting you. You actually have to block the number as a whole, which means they cannot contact you at all — whether that be through calling or texting. The nice thing about this method is that the number stays blocked through the life of your smartphone — you won’t ever have to re-block it, unless you upgrade to another smartphone.

Blocking a Phone Number

The LG V40 ThinQ actually has a couple of different ways that you can block a phone number on the system. The first way is through the Phone app itself. Just tap on the Phone app, which should be in your shortcuts drawer at the bottom of the phone. Or you can find the Phone app within the All Apps section. Once you’re in it, head into the Menu button and select Call Settings. From here, go to Call Blocking & Decline with message and then go to the Call Blocking section.

In this section, press the + button to add a number. You can manually add in digits, or it’ll give you the option of selecting a number from your Contacts or Call Log. Just press Done, and the number is automatically blocked.

You can block block numbers through the Messages app. Tap on the app, and then go to Menu > Settings > Message Blocking. Tap the Blocked Numbers section, and then press the “+” button to add a number. Then, you can choose to block a number from Contacts, Call Log, or you can add digits in manually.

Congratulations, you just stopped a number from reaching you ever again. It”s that easy!

Unblocking a number

If you want to unblock a number, it’s actually really easy. All you have to do is follow the steps above, but just make sure that when you get to the Call Blocking section, you instead Delete a number off of that list. It’s as easy as swiping it away. Once you swipe it away, that number is “unblocked”, and can then text or call you as they please.

You can unblock numbers from the Messaging app as well. Just follow the steps above to hop into the Call Blocking section and swipe a number away.

What about telemarketers?

It’s worth noting that, while text messages from telemarketers is extremely rare, it does still happen; however, it’s extremely difficult to block those numbers. This is because telemarketers regularly use new and different numbers to try and reach you — block one and they use another. If this is the sort of trouble you’re having, you can add your number to the FTC’s Do Not Call Registry to stop those calls and text messages once and for all.

Be careful of spammers

You need to particularly be careful of spam numbers sending you text messages. It’s difficult to stop them from sending you messages, unless Google or your carrier automatically filters that out for you — if they don’t, it’s worth not even opening the message. Often these contain malicious software or viruses that can harm your smartphone, and by opening the message, it can automatically plant on your smartphone. It’s best to just delete these, as they cannot really be blocked either — you just don’t know what number to block until they actually text you.

Individual people

You can follow this method to stop individual people from reaching you, as you can already see. It’s worth noting that if you have a problem with someone incessantly calling or texting you — possibly portraying stalker-like patterns — it’s best to take this information to the local authorities before blocking the number. Blocking a number doesn’t always help in these situations, aside from stopping them blowing up your phone at least. Usually getting the authorities involved is a necessary first step.

As you can see, it’s easy to block a text message on the LG V40 ThinQ. There are a handful of different ways that you can easily make it happen, but unfortunately, you cannot “just” stop text messages. You have to block the whole number — which means that number won’t be able to call or text you anymore.
