Problem #1: Galaxy S7 edge text messages has incorrect date and time
Hi. I’ve had my S7 edge for 3 days. Everything is fine apart from the date and time on my messages. The date and time on the main clock are set right but messages say tomorrow’s date and early hours of the morning conversations. I sent a message earlier that jumped in between a few other messages in the same conversation. Don’t know if this makes sense to you but definitely doesn’t to me!!! Please help me sort it out!!! — Paula
Solution: Hi Paula. To fix this issue, you only have to make sure that the system time is correct. This is done by selecting Automatic date and time under Settings>Date and time, or by making sure that you manually set the correct time, date and timezone, if you don’t want to use Automatic date and time feature.
If the issue won’t be resolved by any of these modifications, make sure that you wipe the messaging app’s cache and data. Here’s how:
- Open the Settings menu either through your notification shade (drop-down) or through the Settings app in your app drawer.
- Navigate down to “Apps”. This may be renamed to something like Applications or Application Manager in OEM skinned versions of Android 6.0.
- Once in there, click on an application.
- You’ll now see a list of stuff that gives you information about the app, including Storage, Permissions, Memory Use, and more. These are all clickable items. You’ll want to click on Storage.
- You should now clearly see the Clear Data and Clear Cache buttons for the application.
Problem #2: Galaxy S7 won’t boot normally | Galaxy S7 can’t restart to other boot modes
Hi! My S7 has been refusing to start up and would display a black screen along with a blue light. I’ve tried doing some of the things that you guys have suggested like forced reboot but the thing would just remain stuck at the “installing system update” which shows the white android on a blue page. It won’t load or budge. I’ve tried booting it in safe mode but had no chance to do so as it would switch off way before I am able to factory reset the entire thing. What do you think I ought to do? — Adel
Solution: Hi Adel. If your phone remains unresponsive after trying to boot it to three different modes, or if it fails to load after inititally doing the process, then the best logical next step for you is repair or replacement. If it’s still covered by Samsung warranty, make sure that you send the device to the nearest service center.
Problem #3: Vikings War of Clans game won’t work on Galaxy S7 when using mobile data
Hello. I have been playing Vikings war of clans for the last year on Samsung Galaxy S5 using wireless and mobile data with no problems. Problems started when I received upgrade to Samsung Galaxy S7 edge. Game would not load and shows there is not internet connection even when there is one. I could surf internet no problem. Game loads when I use wireless connections it just would not load when I try to use mobile data to load on it. Game plays fine when I use my old Samsung galaxy S5 and my wife’s Samsung galaxy S6. We are using TELUS internet provider. Thank You. — Mike
Solution: Hi Mike. The game may not be optimized to work on properly on the Galaxy S7. Since this is an app-specific issue, we suggest that you contact the developer so they can assist you directly. Before you do that, you may want to check some in-game settings to see if there’s something that you can change to fix your problem. You can also try to re-install the game to ensure that an existing game bug is removed.
Problem #4: Bottom part of the Galaxy S7 screen not responsive
Hi. I am using S7 edge. I’m having some problems with the touchscreen. While typing, keys on the left bottom corner don’t work properly, keys have to be pushed repeatedly. I have done factory reset, cleared cache. Problem still exists. I tested touchpad by (*#0*#), I can smoothly complete the x axis. Moreover, in home windows, icons towards the bottom of the screen has to be touched repeatedly sometimes. Please help me in this regard. — Diganta
Solution: Hi Diganta. The most direct way to test the full functionality of the touchscreen is by via service menu, by dialing “*#0*#“. If you can draw a perfect line in the portion of the touchscreen where the problem usually lies, you may be experiencing a normal lack of sensitivity for some parts of the screen. This is fairly common in Galaxy S7 edge phones. We also experience a similar situation with our own S7 edge so you either have to accept it or seek a replacement unit.
Problem #5: Galaxy S7 headphone jack not working
My headphone jack seems to have stopped working. I have cleaned the port and used several different pairs of earbuds in the port, to no avail. The sound will play without earbuds plugged in. I noticed the sound stopped working when I was using the earbuds (while listening to an audiobook) and the sound suddenly stopped when I unplugged my phone from the charger. Almost as if it shorted out? I appreciate any advice on what steps to take next. Thank you for taking the time to read my message. — Tricia
Solution: Hi Tricia. The first thing that you want to do here is to wipe the cache partition. This will ensure that the phone is using a good system cache. This is especially important if you happen to install an app or system update before noticing the problem. Below are the steps on how to do it:
- Turn off your Samsung Galaxy S7.
- Press and then hold the Home and Volume UP keys, then press and hold the Power key.
- When the Samsung Galaxy S7 shows on the screen, release the Power key but continue holding the Home and Volume Up keys.
- When the Android logo shows, you may release both keys and leave the phone be for about 30 to 60 seconds.
- Using the Volume Down key, navigate through the options and highlight ‘wipe cache partition.’
- Once highlighted, you may press the Power key to select it.
- Now highlight the option ‘Yes’ using the Volume Down key and press the Power button to select it.
- Wait until your phone is finished doing the Master Reset. Once completed, highlight ‘Reboot system now’ and press the Power key.
- The phone will now reboot longer than usual.
If wiping the cache partition won’t help, try observing the phone in safe mode. Safe mode prevents third party apps and services from loading. If the problem won’t occur while in this mode, you can bet one of the installed apps is to blame. Here are the steps on how to boot your S7 to safe mode:
- Turn your Galaxy S7 off.
- Press and hold the Power button.
- Once the ‘Samsung Galaxy S7’ logo appears, release the Power key and immediately press and hold the Volume Down button.
- Continue holding the button until the phone finishes rebooting.
- Once you see the text “Safe mode” at the bottom left corner of the screen, release the Volume Down button.
Finally, if nothing changes even when the phone is on safe mode, don’t hesitate to do a factory reset. This is the ultimate software troubleshooting step that you can do in this case. Factory reset reverts all software settings to their clean, working state so if the glitch is on the operating system level, it should fix it. To factory reset your S7, kindly do these steps:
- Turn off your Samsung Galaxy S7.
- Press and then hold the Home and Volume UP keys, then press and hold the Power key.
- When the Samsung Galaxy S7 shows on the screen, release the Power key but continue holding the Home and Volume Up keys.
- When the Android logo shows, you may release both keys and leave the phone be for about 30 to 60 seconds.
- Using the Volume Down key, navigate through the options and highlight ‘wipe data / factory reset.’
- Once highlighted, you may press the Power key to select it.
- Now highlight the option ‘Yes — delete all user data’ using the Volume Down key and press the Power button to select it.
- Wait until your phone is finished doing the Master Reset. Once completed, highlight ‘Reboot system now’ and press the Power key.
- The phone will now reboot longer than usual.
Should the issue remains even after you factory reset the device, find a way to have the phone repaired or replaced.
Problem #6: Galaxy S7 cannot open links in browser or in other apps
Hello. Clicking on links to open in my browser (Chrome is my main one but I’ve tried using others to see if this solves the issue, same thing happens with Youtube links). So, for example, if I click a link in Facebook, an error message appears “a problem with opening this app.” If I click a link through Whatsapp or Outlook/Gmail, then the app in which the link is crashes. I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling these apps. I’ve also tried clearing the cache partition, but none of these methods have solved anything. — Sham
Solution: Hi Sham. Kindly do a factory reset. There must be an unknown operating system glitch causing the problem. After you factory reset the device, make sure to update ALL apps to minimize bugs in your phone.
Problem #7: Galaxy S7 black screen issue
I bought an S7 edge (SM-G935F). Four days after, I got the black screen of death. Took it back to the dealer here in my country where they thought was the cable that connects the screen to the motherboard. So they changed it and wiped the phone. The device worked fine for 2 weeks then same black screen problem again. What causes this? A software issue or can it be hardware related because I’m getting the device to restart following your instructions? Just want to know what causes it. — Adrian
Solution: Hi Adrian. We don’t know the full history of your device in order to tell you exactly what’s causing the problem. A thorough hardware and software check has to be conducted in order for us to diagnose the issue. The best party to address your question is the service center that handled your case. Telling us that your phone is showing a black screen issue is too general and doesn’t point to anything specific. If you can restart the phone after the screen turns black, that may mean that there’s a software issue behind this trouble. If this phone has already been wiped by the service center, your next logical step is to just demand for a replacement unit from the dealer.
Problem #8: Apps moved to SD card won’t work Galaxy S7 edge
Hey guys! So my Galaxy S7 Edge is great. I really love it as it suits all my needs because it’s incredibly versatile; however, I require quite a few apps on it in order for it to suit my needs. Whenever I try to move apps to my SD card, within a few hours – sometimes even minutes – it gives me the icon as if the app is no longer installed. It does this when I try to move photo albums as well. It deletes them. I’ve learned to back them up to Google drive before testing to see if it’ll move to the microSD. What can I do? — Samantha
Solution: Hi Samantha. Not all apps are designed to work when they’re moved to an SD card. If a certain app stops working after being moved to an SD card, then you simply have to stop doing the transfer. That’s a clear indication that the developer intends that their app only operates while in the phone’s internal storage device.
We are yet to encounter a similar issue caused by a bad SD card but to be on the safe side, make sure that you reformat the SD card using your S7. After that, try to move the same apps to it and observe it. If that won’t help fix the issue, you can also try using another SD card.
You can also consider wiping the phone’s cache partition and performing factory reset if you suspect that the issue lies on the phone itself.
