What to do if Galaxy S10 Google Play Store keeps crashing

Is your Galaxy S10 Google Play Store app keeps crashing? Learn how to troubleshoot the issue by following our troubleshooting steps below.

Play Store keeps crashing Fix #1: Force quit Google Play

Restarting the problem app should be the first troubleshooting step that you want to do. This is usually effective in fixing minor app bugs. Here’s how it’s done:

  1. On your screen, tap the Recent Apps soft key (the one with three vertical lines on the left of the Home button).
  2. Once the Recent Apps screen is shown, swipe left or right to look for the Google Play Store app. It should be here if you managed to run it previously. Then, swipe up on the app to close it. This should force close it. If it’s not there, simply tap the Close All app to also restart all apps.

Another way to force close an app is this:

  1. Open Settings app.
  2. Tap Apps.
  3. Tap the More settings icon (three-dot icon, upper right).
  4. Tap Show system apps.
  5. Find and tap the Google Play Store app.
  6. Tap Force Stop.

Play Store keeps crashing Fix #2: Soft reset your device

If nothing happens after force closing the problem app and Play Store keeps crashing still, your next move would be to soft reset your device. This will clear the system and refresh it.

To force restart your device:

  1. Press and hold the Power + Volume Down buttons for approximately 12 seconds or until the device power cycles. Note: Allow several seconds for the Maintenance Boot Mode screen to appear.
  2. From the Maintenance Boot Mode screen, select Normal Boot. Note: Utilize the volume buttons to cycle through the available options and the lower left button (below the volume buttons) to select. Allow up to 90 seconds for the reset to complete.
  3. If Maintenance Boot Mode screen won’t show, then your device does not have it. Simply wait for the device to power down completely.

Play Store keeps crashing Fix #3: Uninstall updates

  1. Open Settings app.
  2. Tap Apps.
  3. Tap the More settings icon (three-dot icon, upper right).
  4. Tap Show system apps.

  6. Tap the three-dot icon at the upper right.

Play Store keeps crashing Fix #4: Clear cache of Google Play Store app

Sometimes, outdated app cache can cause minor bugs. To see if the problem is due to bad app cache, try to clear Google Play Store app cache with these steps:

  1. Open Settings app.
  2. Tap Apps.
  3. Tap the More settings icon (three-dot icon, upper right).
  4. Tap Show system apps.
  5. Find and tap the Google Play Store app.
  6. Tap Storage.
  7. Tap Clear cache button.

Play Store keeps crashing Fix #5: Clear data of Google Play Store app

Should clearing the app’s cache won’t help, your next move would be to return the app to its defaults by clearing its data. The steps are basically the same for clearing the cache. Instead of tapping on clearing the cache, just tap on Clear Data. Doing so will return the Google Play Store app to its factory settings so you’ll have to sign back in to your Google account before you can use it again.

Play Store keeps crashing Fix #6:  Reset Google Services Framework

One of the effective methods in fixing Google-related problems is by clearing the data of Google Services Framework. Google Services Framework is an important default app that can sometimes become buggy. To ensure that Google Services Framework is in top shape, follow these steps to clear its data:

  1. Open Settings app.
  2. Tap Apps.
  3. Tap the More settings icon (three-dot icon, upper right).
  4. Tap Show system apps.
  5. Find and tap the Google Services Framework app.
  6. Tap Storage.
  7. Tap Clear data button.
  8. Restart the device and check for the problem.

Play Store keeps crashing Fix #7: Wipe cache partition

Android uses a system cache, which is stored in the cache partition, to load apps quickly. Sometimes, this cache gets corrupted during and after an update, or for some other reasons. While this may sound harmless, a corrupted cache can eventually cause performance issues as well as a bunch of other minor annoyances. To ensure that your phone’s system cache is fresh, you can wipe the cache partition. This will force the phone to delete the current cache and replace it with a new one over time.

To wipe the cache partition on your S10:

  1. Turn off the device.
  2. Press and hold the Volume Up key and the Bixby key, then press and hold the Power key.
  3. When the green Android logo displays, release all keys (‘Installing system update’ will show for about 30 – 60 seconds before showing the Android system recovery menu options).
  4. Press the Volume down key several times to highlight ‘wipe cache partition’.
  5. Press Power button to select.
  6. Press the Volume down key until ‘yes’ is highlighted and press the Power button.
  7. When the wipe cache partition is complete, “Reboot system now” is highlighted.
  8. Press the Power key to restart the device.

Play Store keeps crashing Fix #8: Reset app preferences

Apps need other apps and default system apps or services in order to work. To check if Google Play Store is missing an important default app causing it to crash, you can reset app preferences. Here’s how:

  1. Open Settings app.
  2. Tap Apps.
  3. Tap on More settings at the upper right (three-dot icon).
  4. Select Reset app preferences.
  5. Restart your S10 and check for the problem.

Play Store keeps crashing Fix #9: Install software and app updates

In case there’s a problem with the software or one of the apps, you must ensure that your device runs the latest Android available, and the latest versions of all your apps. Some issues can only be fixed by changing some codes so this is the best thing that you can do to make that happen.

Play Store keeps crashing Fix #10: Check for rogue apps

In some other similar cases, the cause may be a bad app. To check if that’s the case, restart the device to safe mode and see what happens. Here’s how:

  1. Press and hold the Power button until the Power off window appears then release.
  2. Touch and hold Power off until the Safe mode prompt appears then release.
  3. To confirm, tap Safe mode.
  4. The process may take up to 30 seconds to complete.
  5. Upon reboot, “Safe mode” appears in the lower-left of the home screen.

Remember that third-party applications are disabled in this mode so what you can use are pre-installed apps. If the touchscreen issue won’t appear on safe mode, that means that the problem is due to a bad app. Uninstall the app you recently installed and see if that will fix it. If the problem remains, use the process of elimination to identify the rogue app. Here’s how:

  1. Boot to safe mode.
  2. Check for the problem.
  3. Once you’ve confirmed that a third party app is to blame, you can start uninstalling apps individually. We suggest that you begin with the most recent ones you added.
  4. After you uninstall an app, restart the phone to normal mode and check for the problem.
  5. If your S10 is still problematic, repeat steps 1-4.

Play Store keeps crashing Fix #10: Scan for malware

Some malware may intentionally block or prevent Google Play Store from running. Try running the default antivirus on your device and see if it turns up something. To do that:

  1. Open Settings app.
  2. Tap Device care.
  3. Tap Security.
  4. If it’s your first time to use the default antivirus or antimalware service on your device, hit ACTIVATE.
  5. Then, hit Scan phone.

Play Store keeps crashing Fix #11: Delete Google account

Some users were able to fix Google Play Store issues in the past by simply deleting the current account used on their Google Play Store app. Then, add the account again and see what happens.

Play Store keeps crashing Fix #12: Factory reset
