How to fix your Samsung Galaxy J7 Pro that keeps freezing and lagging (easy steps)

Performance issues like freezing and lagging are among the most common problems you may encounter after several months of using your phone. It may have something to do with the storage left in your phone’s memory or the number of apps running in the background. In the case of some Samsung Galaxy J7 Pro owners, their phones reportedly started to freeze and lag after an update which leaves an impression that it could be a firmware issue.

The Galaxy J7 Pro was released with Android 7.0 Nougat already running and Google is yet to make Android 8.0 Oreo available for public in the coming weeks or months. So any updates that were rolled out of this device should have all been small ones.

With that said, if this problem started after an update, then there’s a possibility that it’s due to some corrupt system caches and/or data files. Naturally, such problem is easy to fix and you don’t need a technician to make your phone run smoothly again. So, in this post, I will share with you a simple trick to make your device run smoother like before without those freezes and lags. So, if you’re one of the owners of the J7 Pro, continue reading as this post may be able to help you.

Performance issues are often firmware-related and if they started after an update, there’s one solution that I know would work. Well, at least, it worked to many of our readers who have encountered similar issues in the past.

Wipe cache partition to fix freezes and lags on Galaxy J7 Pro

That’s right, you need to wipe the cache partition of your phone to delete all system caches and be replaced with new ones. There are times when caches get corrupted and it happens more often during firmware updates. Here’s how you do it:

  1. Turn off your Galaxy J7 Pro.
  2. Press and hold the Volume Up key and the Bixby key, then press and hold the Power key.
  3. When the green Android logo displays, release all keys (‘Installing system update’ will show for about 30 – 60 seconds before showing the Android system recovery menu options).
  4. Press the Volume down key several times to highlight “wipe cache partition.”
  5. Press the Power key to select.
  6. Press the Volume down key to highlight “yes” and press the Power key to select.
  7. When the wipe cache partition is complete, “Reboot system now” is highlighted.
  8. Press the Power key to restart the device.

After this procedure, use your phone to know if the freezes and lags disappeared. If there are still occasional occurrences, then you have no other choice but to do the next solution.

Backup your files and data then reset your phone

A reset will fix this issue but the reason why it always comes at the end of almost all of our troubleshooting guides is because it’s a hassle to backup files and data. Depending on how much data you need to backup, it may take an hour or two before you can transfer everything you don’t want to lose to your computer. But you have no other choice at this point so if you want to get rid of the freezes and lags, then take time backing up your files and then disable the Factory Reset Protection by removing your Google account from your phone so that you won’t be locked out after the reset. Once everything is set, follow these steps to reset your phone:

  1. Turn off the device.
  2. Press and hold the Volume Up key and the Bixby key, then press and hold the Power key.
  3. When the green Android logo displays, release all keys (‘Installing system update’ will show for about 30 – 60 seconds before showing the Android system recovery menu options).
  4. Press the Volume down key several times to highlight “wipe data / factory reset.
  5. Press Power button to select.
  6. Press the Volume down key until ‘Yes — delete all user data’ is highlighted.
  7. Press Power button to select and start the master reset.
  8. When the master reset is complete, “Reboot system now” is highlighted.
  9. Press the Power key to restart the device.
