When the warning message “Moisture has been detected. Make sure the charger/USB port is completely dry before charging your phone.” appears, your phone will automatically stop charging but it doesn’t mean that its capability to charge is compromised, it’s doing this to prevent further damage to your phone due to possible liquid damage. Of course, the primary reason why it’s showing the error is due to moisture that may have been detected in the charger port.

Other Samsung flagship phones also have either IP67 or IP68 rating which makes them resistant to dust and water. But here’s the thing, having this rating doesn’t make the phone waterproof so there’s still a chance that water can enter your phone and mess up the circuits. What to do if your Galaxy A8 2018 shows ‘moisture detected’ warning
First off, you need to know if the warning is triggered by liquid or not. It may appear even if there’s no moisture in the charger port and if it happens, it could be just an issue with the firmware. Being the owner, of course, you should be the first one to know if your phone got in contact with any sort of liquid but assuming you don’t know that, here’s what you should do about it…
First Solution: Reboot your phone
Always begin your troubleshooting with a reboot especially if the problem started without apparent reason because it might be just a minor glitch in either the firmware or the hardware. So, hit that Power button and restart your phone. After that, try to charge your device to know if the warning message would still show up and if it does, try the Forced Reboot; press and hold the Volume Down button and the Power key simultaneously for 10 seconds.
Your device will reboot normally assuming it still has enough battery to power up its hardware. If the error still shows up after this, then move on to the next solution. But it is important at this point that you check your phone for possible signs of liquid damage.
- Look into the charger port to find out if there is indeed a trace of moisture in there.
- You may use a cotton swab to clean the area or insert a piece of small tissue paper into it to absorb the moist.
- Also check the cable for moisture because if even if it’s the cable that’s wet, it would still result to the same problem.
After checking your phone for possible liquid damage and you’re pretty sure there’s no sign of it, try the next solution.
Second Solution: Turn off your phone and charge
The error would only show up if the phone is powered on and as a result, the charging process is halted. However, if the phone is powered down, the error won’t show up and assuming there’s no sign of liquid damage, your device should charge normally while it’s turned off.
What we’re trying to accomplish here is to replenish your phone’s battery so you can continue your troubleshooting. Without power, there’s only so much you can do about it that’s why it’s imperative there’s enough battery.
On the other hand, if the battery has already been drained completely and your phone won’t be able to power up, you should still connect the phone to its charger, allow it to charge for a few minutes and then do the Forced Reboot procedure by pressing and holding together the Volume Down and Power keys for 10 seconds or more.
If your phone doesn’t charge or turn on after this, there’s nothing much you can do about it so you need to bring it to the service center so that a technician can do some test to determine what the problem is. However, if your phone turns on but still won’t charge, then move on to the next step.
Third Solution: Try charging your phone in Safe mode
We have some readers who suggested that booting the phone in safe mode would allow it to charge normally since all third-party apps are temporarily disabled. Try this to get the battery charged then continue your troubleshooting. Here’s how you start your phone in safe mode:
- Turn the device off.
- Press and hold the Power key past the model name screen.
- When “SAMSUNG” appears on the screen, release the Power key.
- Immediately after releasing the Power key, press and hold the Volume downkey.
- Continue to hold the Volume down key until the device finishes restarting.
- Safe mode will display in the bottom left corner of the screen.
- Release the Volume down key when you see Safe Mode.
Fourth Solution: Reset your device
You only need to do this if the phone charges fine in safe mode or if it still turns on but won’t charge. This would rule out the possibility that the problem is due to a firmware issue. After the reset and the problem still persists, you should bring it to the service center.
So, backup all your files and data as they will be deleted during the reset process. After which, disable the Factory Reset Protection by removing your Google account from your phone so that you won’t be locked out after the reset. Then follow these steps to reset your device:
- Turn off the device.
- Press and hold the Volume Up key and the Home key, then press and hold the Power key.
- When the Android logo displays, release all keys (‘Installing system update’ will show for about 30 – 60 seconds before showing the Android system recovery menu options).
- Press the Volume down key several times to highlight “wipe data / factory reset”.
- Press Power button to select.
- Press the Volume down key until ‘Yes — delete all user data’ is highlighted.
- Press Power button to select and start the master reset.
- When the master reset is complete, “Reboot system now” is highlighted.
- Press the Power key to restart the device.
