How to reset a frozen Samsung Galaxy A8 2019 (easy steps)
The Samsung Galaxy A8 2018, although it’s not a flagship device, packs really impressive hardware specs with premium features. It received quite a lot of positive reviews from its users which is evident that the phone is actually a good one. But just like any other devices out there, there are times when you may encounter issues with it and among the most commonly reported problems is when the device stops responding and seems frozen.
This issue can be manifested differently. Others may be stuck on a certain screen while some may have the blank display. Regardless of the symptom you’re having, there’s one fact that’s common–the phone doesn’t respond no matter what you do with it. In this post, I will walk you through in troubleshooting your phone and I will share with you the solution that we’ve always been using to address this problem. So, continue reading if you’re one of the owners of the Galaxy A8 2018 that’s having similar issues.

How to unfreeze a frozen Galaxy A8 2018
More often than not, if a phone like the Galaxy A8 2018 stops responding and gets stuck on a certain screen, it could be a system crash unless, of course, the phone suffered either physical or liquid damage. In this troubleshooting guide however, I will assume that this problem started without any obvious reason. Here are the things you can do to make your phone respond again…
First solution: Forced Reboot
If you’re familiar with the battery pull that we often do to phones with removable batteries, well, the Forced Reboot is the equivalent of it but we do this to phones with non-removable batteries. What it does is refresh your phone’s memory by reloading all apps, services and core functions. For firmware or system crashes, this is the ultimate solution because even if your device is unresponsive, it may still be able to respond to this method because your phone is hard-wired to respond to this. Again, it simulates battery disconnect and once such method is done, your A8 2018 may boot up successfully. To do this, press and hold the volume down and power keys simultaneously for 10 seconds or more.
If the phone stopped responding due to a firmware crash, then it should be booting up by now already as long as you did the combination correctly. If the phone is still not responding after the first attempt, try doing it a couple more times or you may try this instead:
- Press and hold the volume down button first and don’t let it go.
- Now, press and hold the power key while holding down the volume down button.
- Keep both keys held down together for 10 seconds or more.
It is basically the same as the first procedure only that we’re making sure the power key is pressed and held after the volume down button because doing it otherwise won’t give you the result.
If your phone is still not responding even after doing the second procedure, then it’s possible that the battery got drained completely.
Second solution: Charge and do the Forced Reboot again
If the battery has been drained completely, there’s a chance that the firmware also crashed by the time the juice ran out because hardware components as well as the system could shut down properly. If a firmware crash would result to an unresponsive phone and even if the forced reboot can make your phone respond again, if there’s not enough battery left to power on the device, you will still have an unresponsive device. So, in this section, I want you to do the following:
- Plug the charger into a working wall outlet. It’s important that you use the wired charger for this procedure.
- Using the original power / data cable, connect the device to its charger.
- Now, regardless whether the device shows up the charging signs or not, allow the phone to be connected to its charger for 10 minutes, at least.
- After which, press and hold the volume down button first and don’t let it go.
- Now, press and hold the power key while holding down the volume down button.
- Keep both keys held down together for 10 seconds or more while the phone is still connected to its charger.
If the problem is due to a firmware crash and drained battery, then your phone should already be starting up by now. However, if the device is still not responding, then it’s possible that the problem is with the hardware or it could be a pretty serious firmware issue. You should bring it back to the store or to the shop so that a technician can take a look at it. But before that, try booting up the device in Recovery Mode to find out if it still capable of doing so because it if actually does boot up into that mode, then it’s just a firmware problem and a master reset can fix it. Here’s how you boot your Galaxy A8 2018 in recovery mode and do the master reset:
- Turn off the device.
- Press and hold the Volume Up key and the Home key, then press and hold the Power key.
- When the Android logo displays, release all keys (‘Installing system update’ will show for about 30 – 60 seconds, then ‘No command’ before showing the Android system recovery menu options).
- Press the Volume down key several times to highlight “wipe data / factory reset.
- Press Power button to select.
- Press the Volume down key until ‘Yes — delete all user data’ is highlighted.
- Press Power button to select and start the master reset.
- When the master reset is complete, “Reboot system now” is highlighted.
- Press the Power key to restart the device.
I hope that you don’t have to go to a shop to get your phone respond again but if the device is still not responding after all these, then you have no other choice.
