If your Huawei P30 has a charging problem and you don’t know what to do, this post is for you. This troubleshooting article will show you the solutions to try if your Huawei P30 won’t charge or has stopped charging for some reason. Learn how to troubleshoot the problem by checking out the steps that you can do.

How to fix Huawei P30 won’t charge | troubleshoot Huawei P30 charging issue

If your Huawei P30 won’t charge all of a sudden, that can mean that there’s a software glitch causing it, or that a hardware malfunction is preventing the system from charging. To fix the problem, follow our suggestions below.

Huawei P30 won’t charge fix #1: Confirm charging accessories are working

Making sure that the USB cable and adapter you’re using are working is an important first step in fixing this problem. Like the phone itself, charging accessories especially the USB cable can break relatively easily. The cable is composed of thin, tiny wires inside and if a lot of these wires are broken, charging may fail. There may not be enough power being transferred during charging resulting to slow or inefficient charging. If there’s a visible sign of physical damage to the cable or adapter, try to see if it’s working properly by using it to charge another Huawei P30. If that’s not possible, try connecting your device to a computer using that same cable. If it still doesn’t charge, you can bet a bad cable is to blame.

Huawei P30 won’t charge fix #2: Use another set of cable and adapter

If you can’t test the current USB cable and adapter on another device, then the next good step is to get a new pair. You can either buy a new set of cable and adapter, or borrow one. Either way, your goal is to check whether there’s an issue with the accessories you have or not. If you can’t buy a new set, visit your local Huawei retailer and see if you can borrow an original cable and adapter to temporarily troubleshoot your device. Make sure to charge the phone for at least 30 minutes using that different pair to see if there’s any difference.

Huawei P30 won’t charge fix #3: Check the charging port

Another possible reason why your Huawei P30 fails to charge can be a bad charging port. This doesn’t mean a defect is present in the port. There may only be dirt, lint, or foreign object preventing the charging cable from making good contact during charging. To check the port, try using a magnifier to see more clearly inside. If you notice dirt or debris inside, make sure to remove it by using a can of compressed air. Do not stick anything inside to avoid damaging the system.

We don’t want you to do anything more to the charging port other than to check it visually. If you suspect that the charging port may be damaged, or if you see an obvious indication that there’s physical malfunction in the port, make sure to send the phone in so it can be repaired.

Huawei P30 won’t charge fix #4: Check for water damage

The Huawei P30 has built-in IP53 dust and splash protection. This means that it can withstand dust and water exposure to a certain level. The charging port, with its exposed nature, can also handle water by design but it may prevent charging if it’s wet. If you previously exposed your phone to water, rain, or humidity before it stopped charging, it’s possible that the charging port may have some water in it. In order to prevent damaging the system, charging won’t work when there’s water in the port. Make sure to air dry the port first before you attempt to charge the phone again.

Water naturally evaporates in room temperature after a few hours. Wipe the outside of the phone thoroughly with clean soft cloth, then leave the device to air dry for several hours. Don’t try to stick anything in the port to dry it as that might damage the system or push water deep inside.

Huawei P30 won’t charge fix #5: Perform a soft reset

Restarting a device can sometimes do wonders. Make sure that you forced restart your phone if none of the suggestions has worked so far. Try to do a forced reboot by pressing and holding the Power key for 10 to 15 seconds. If your phone works, it should reboot and you should feel a vibration and see the Huawei logo. In case you do not feel the vibration and the screen is still blank, then simply press and hold the Power Key for more time until you see the device restart itself.

If nothing changes after attempting to reboot the device a few times, you can abandon this troubleshooting and proceed to the next ones below.

Huawei P30 won’t charge fix #6: Charge on Safe Mode

Sometimes, a third party app may cause problems or interfere with the Operating System. To check if a poorly coded or bad third party app is causing the incomplete connection error when charging, try restarting your Huawei P30 to Safe Mode. In this mode, no third party app should be able to run. So, if it charges fine on safe mode, you can bet a bad third party app is to blame. Here’s how to boot it to safe mode:

  1. Power off the device.
  2. Power it back on.
  3. Once you see the Huawei animation on the screen press and hold Volume Down button.
  4. You can see safe mode at the bottom left corner once the device finishes booting.
  5. Now that the device has started on safe mode, charge it and see if there’s a difference.

Don’t forget: safe mode blocks third party apps but it won’t tell you which of them is the real cause. If you think that there’s a rogue third party app in the system, you must identify it. Here’s what you need to do exactly:

  1. Boot to safe mode.
  2. Check for the problem.
  3. Once you’ve confirmed that a third party app is to blame, you can start uninstalling apps individually. We suggest that you begin with the most recent ones you added.
  4. After you uninstall an app, restart the phone to normal mode and check for the problem.
  5. If your Huawei P30 is still problematic, repeat steps 1-4.

Huawei P30 won’t charge fix #7: Update software to the latest version available

Software and apps updates usually offer fix patch to obliterate existing problems inflicted by random bugs and malicious software. If you haven’t set your device and/or apps to auto-update, then you will need to manually install pending updates. Here’s how to manually check for software updates on the P30:

  1. Go to Settings.
  2. Tap System.
  3. Select System Update.
  4. Tap the option to Check for Updates.

To check for any pending app updates you’ve downloaded through the Google Play Store app, launch Play Store then navigate to the Updates section. You will then see a list of apps with pending updates. Just tap on Update to install individual app updates or tap Update All to update apps simultaneously.

Don’t forget to reboot/soft reset your P30 after installing updates to ensure all new software changes are properly implemented and to prevent any app from going rogue.

Huawei P30 won’t charge fix #8: Wipe cache partition

In order to load apps quickly, Android stores frequently used items like website links, images, videos, ads, among others in a part in internal storage called cache partition. Sometimes, these items collectively called system cache may get outdated or corrupted causing performance problems or bugs. To ensure that you phone runs efficiently and the cache in top shape, you want to regularly clear the cache partition (about once every few months). When dealing with any app issue, this can also be one of the troubleshooting steps. Here’s how to do it:

  1. With your phone turned off, press and hold both the Volume Up and Power buttons simultaneously for at least 10 seconds.
  2. Let go of the buttons when the Honor logo appears.
  3. Shortly after seeing the logo, the EMUI screen shows up with the recovery mode options.
  4. Press the Volume Down button to scroll to and highlight Wipe cache partition option.
  5. Then press the Power button to confirm selection.
  6. Use the Volume buttons to scroll to and highlight the next options and Power button to confirm selection.

Huawei P30 won’t charge fix #9: Factory reset

If nothing still works at this point and your Huawei P30 still can’t send or receive texts, you must restore all its software settings to defaults. Factory reset will delete all your personal data so be sure to back them up ahead of time. Afterwards, follow the steps below to begin the factory reset:

  1. Turn off the mobile by pressing the Power key for a few moments.
  2. Press and hold Volume Up and Power buttons for a couple of seconds.
  3. When Recovery Mode appears let go of all keys.
  4. Now choose “wipe data/factory reset”. Use Volume buttons to navigate and the Power key to accept it.
  5. Confirm the operation by typing in “yes” and select “wipe data/factory reset”.
  6. When you see the Google Verification info confirm the operation by selecting “wipe data/factory reset”.
  7. Finally choose “reboot system now” by using the Power key.

Huawei P30 won’t charge fix #10: Send the phone in for repair

If wiping the phone with factory reset won’t change anything, you can assume that there’s a problem with the hardware or that it’s beyond your ability to fix. Visit your local Huawei Service Center for help. If that’s not possible, talk to the store where you bought your phone from and let them handle hardware servicing.
