What to do if Huawei P30 has no sound | no audio from speaker

In most cases, the causes can be mundane, minor bugs, or user forgetfulness. If your Huawei P30 has no sound and you can’t think of ways to check what is wrong with it, this troubleshooting article might help.

What to do if Huawei P30 has no sound | no audio from speaker

If your Huawei P30 has no sound or audio, there may be a number of factors causing it. Here are the troubleshooting steps that you can do to fix it:

Huawei P30 no sound fix #1: Undo changes

There can be a number of scenarios where audio may not work in a Huawei P30. In some cases, there is really no issue at all. In fact, some cases are due to changes that a user may have initiated. If you are the type who likes to change things and forget about them, it’s possible that you may have turned off or modified some settings by mistake. If there’s no sound on your Huawei P30 after tweaking some software or app settings, try to reverse whatever it is that you did. If you did nothing at all, or if you can no longer recall the changes you made, the continue with the troubleshooting below.

Huawei P30 no sound fix #2: Adjust volume

At times, this problem may happen simply because a user forget to turn up the volume. This may sound silly but a lot of people contacted us about their device losing sound, only to find out later that they simply failed to boost the volume. In case you haven’t checked, try pressing the Volume Up button first and see if your phone makes a sound.

Huawei P30 no sound fix #3: Turn off Bluetooth

If your Huawei P30 has no sound, one of the things that you must check is the Bluetooth function. Is it ON? If yes, try turning it off, then check for the sound. Remember, if your Huawei device is connected to, say a wireless earpiece, audio will be routed to that Bluetooth device instead of to the speaker. Disable Bluetooth then play a sound or video to check. To disable Bluetooth, pull down the notification bar from the top and tap on Bluetooth icon.

Huawei P30 no sound fix #4: Restart your phone

At this point, the next best thing that you can do is to refresh the system. Restarting a device can sometimes do wonders. Make sure that you forced restart your phone if none of the suggestions has worked so far. Try to do a forced reboot by pressing and holding the Power key for 10 to 15 seconds. If your phone works, it should reboot and you should feel a vibration and see the Huawei logo. In case you do not feel the vibration and the screen is still blank, then simply press and hold the Power Key for more time until you see the device restart itself.

Another way to restart some Huawei P30 devices can be these steps:

  1. Press and hold the Power + Volume Down buttons for approximately 12 seconds or until the device power cycles. Note: Allow several seconds for the Maintenance Boot Mode screen to appear.
  2. From the Maintenance Boot Mode screen, select Normal Boot. Note: Utilize the volume buttons to cycle through the available options and the lower left button (below the volume buttons) to select. Allow up to 90 seconds for the reset to complete.
  3. If Maintenance Boot Mode screen won’t show, then your device does not have it. Simply wait for the device to power down completely.

Huawei P30 no sound fix #5: Force quit app (if happening on one app only)

If your Huawei P30 appears to have no sound only when using one app, it’s possible that the problem may be a bug within that certain app. Try to delete the app’s cache to see if it helps. Deleting the cache is one of the direct ways to troubleshoot a problem app. It’s usually effective in fixing minor bugs caused by outdated cache or temporary files. It can be done safely without losing any user-related content in the app. Here’s how it’s done:

  1. Open the Settings app.
  2. Navigate to Application Manager.
  3. Tap the All tab.
  4. Select the appropriate app.
  5. Tap Clear Cache.
  6. Check for the problem.

Should nothing happen after clearing the app’s cache, proceed by deleting its data. This will refresh the app further as its settings will be returned to its factory state. Here’s how it’s done:

  1. Open the Settings app.
  2. Navigate to Application Manager.
  3. Tap the All tab.
  4. Select your appropriate app.
  5. Tap Clear Data.
  6. Check for the problem.

Alternatively, you can reinstall the app instead of deleting its data. This is recommended if you are having an issue with a third party app (those that are not part of the original software). Here’s how it’s done:

  1. Open Play Store app.
  2. Slide your finger to the right starting from left side of the screen.
  3. Tap My apps & games.
  4. Tap Installed.
  5. Find and tap the required app.
  6. Tap Uninstall.
  7. Tap OK.
  8. Restart the device.
  9. Reinstall the app and see if the problem remains.

In order to load apps quickly, Android stores frequently used items like website links, images, videos, ads, among others in a part in internal storage called cache partition. Sometimes, these items collectively called system cache may get outdated or corrupted causing performance problems or bugs. To ensure that you phone runs efficiently and the cache in top shape, you want to regularly clear the cache partition (about once every few months). When dealing with any app issue, this can also be one of the troubleshooting steps. Here’s how to do it:

  1. With your phone turned off, press and hold both the Volume Up and Power buttons simultaneously for at least 10 seconds.
  2. Let go of the buttons when the Honor logo appears.
  3. Shortly after seeing the logo, the EMUI screen shows up with the recovery mode options.
  4. Press the Volume Down button to scroll to and highlight Wipe cache partition option.
  5. Then press the Power button to confirm selection.
  6. Use the Volume buttons to scroll to and highlight the next options and Power button to confirm selection.

Software and apps updates usually offer fix patch to obliterate existing problems inflicted by random bugs and malicious software. If you haven’t set your device and/or apps to auto-update, then you will need to manually install pending updates. Here’s how to manually check for software updates on the P30:

  1. Go to Settings.
  2. Tap System.
  3. Select System Update.
  4. Tap the option to Check for Updates.

You will then see a list of apps with pending updates. Just tap on Update to install individual app updates or tap Update All to update apps simultaneously.

Don’t forget to reboot/soft reset your P30 after installing updates to ensure all new software changes are properly implemented and to prevent any app from going rogue.

Huawei P30 no sound fix #8: Check for bad app

If Huawei P30 no sound issue started after installing a new app, that app may be poorly coded or bad. Try to delete it and see if it works. If you can’t remember the app, or if you haven’t installed anything new before the problem shows up, you can boot your device to safe mode.

In safe mode, no third party app should be able to run. So, if wifi works normally on safe mode, you can bet a bad third party app is to blame. Here’s how to boot it to safe mode:

  1. Power off the device.
  2. Power it back on.
  3. Once you see the Huawei animation on the screen press and hold Volume Down button.
  4. You can see safe mode at the bottom left corner once the device finishes booting.

Now that the device has started on safe mode, charge it and see if there’s a difference.

Don’t forget: safe mode blocks third party apps but it won’t tell you which of them is the real cause. If you think that there’s a rogue third party app in the system, you must identify it. Here’s what you need to do exactly:

  1. Boot to safe mode.
  2. Check for the problem.
  3. Once you’ve confirmed that a third party app is to blame, you can start uninstalling apps individually. We suggest that you begin with the most recent ones you added.
  4. After you uninstall an app, restart the phone to normal mode and check for the problem.
  5. If your Huawei P30 is still problematic, repeat steps 1-4.

  7. Tap Reset all settings.
  8. Confirm the action by tapping on Reset all settings.

This method is useful in one particular situation: when Settings menu is not accessible. There may be a variety of reasons why Settings menu may become unreachable. In some cases, the device may have simply frozen or unresponsive. At other times, it can be due to a problem that you are currently trying to troubleshoot. In any case, you must do Hard reset on Huawei P30 via Recovery Mode when the situation forces you to. We still recommend that you use the first method as your primary option for convenience reasons. Effects-wise, the two methods don’t have any difference at all. The device will be completely sanitized and all user data deleted after doing any of them.

To perform a Hard reset on Huawei P30 via Recovery Mode:

  1. Create a backup of your personal data.
  2. Turn off the mobile by pressing the Power key for a few moments.
  3. Press and hold Volume Up and Power buttons for a couple of seconds.
  4. When Recovery Mode appears let go of all keys.
  5. Now choose “wipe data/factory reset”. Use Volume buttons to navigate and the Power key to accept it.
  6. Confirm the operation by typing in “yes” and select “wipe data/factory reset”.
  7. When you see the Google Verification info confirm the operation by selecting “wipe data/factory reset”.
  8. Finally choose “reboot system now” by using the Power key.

Huawei P30 no sound fix #10: Repair

If the problem is still not fixed after a factory reset, that means that a hardware issue may be to blame. There may be a problem with the speaker, or the motherboard may have an unknown glitch. Visit your local Huawei store or Service Center so the phone can be checked.
