The thing is, fast charging may sometimes slow down on the Huawei P30. This can occur for a number of reasons. You’ll need to do a number of troubleshooting steps in order to fix it. If your Huawei P30 is charging slow, follow the steps below to address the problem.

Huawei P30 slow charging fix #1: Confirm charger is working

If you noticed that your Huawei P30 appears to be charging slow lately, the first thing that you want to do is check the charging accessories. By default, your device is supposed to charge fast so if it’s not doing that, there may be one causing it. It can be too many apps running in the background, hardware issue, or a bad charging cable or adapter. In this situation, try to determine first if it has something to do with the charging cable and adapter. Ideally, you should be using the accessories that came with the box. If you’re using a third party cable and adapter, try looking for original Huawei P30 accessories first. You can perhaps borrow from a family member, friend, or visit your local Huawei store.

Historically, Huawei devices have good track record. In many cases wherein they failed to charge, the main cause is hardware malfunction or failure. In order not to waste time troubleshooting the wrong problem, you want to know first if there’s a possibility that bad hardware might be to blame. If you dropped your Huawei P30 Pro or hit it with something hard before noticing that it has won’t charge, it may have a malfunctioning hardware. Dropping an electronic device can lead to all sorts of problems including the chance that your phone may be dead. If there are obvious signs of hardware failure, like a cracked screen, mangled case, or apparent cracks anywhere on the body, your phone may need repair and not software troubleshooting. If this happens, then an app or too many apps may be draining the battery that charging it while device is on can appear slow.

The next troubleshooting step that you want to do is to find out if your Huawei P30 will fast charge after restarting it. Try to do a forced reboot by pressing and holding the Power key for 10 to 15 seconds. If your charging works normally after that, the problem is likely caused by a minor bug.

It is the most exposed part to elements and sometimes dirt, foreign objects, pocket lint, etc. may block the charging cable while charging. Instead of using mobile data, switch to wifi instead and see if there’s a difference. If fast charging works normally again on wifi, you should consider doing a factory reset to fix the problem. Huawei P30 slow charging fix #7: Refresh system cache

Having a corrupted or outdated system cache can cause performance issues. Sometimes, charging may become erratic as well as a result of a bad system cache. To ensure that the device’s system cache is in good shape, you can go ahead and clear its cache partition. This won’t delete any of your personal data so it can be done safely. Here’s how:

1. With your phone turned off, press and hold both the Volume Up and Power buttons simultaneously for at least 10 seconds.
2. Let go of the buttons when the Honor logo appears.
3. Shortly after seeing the logo, the EMUI screen shows up with the recovery mode options.
4. Press the Volume Down button to scroll to and highlight Wipe cache partition option.
5. Then press the Power button to confirm selection.
6. Use the Volume buttons to scroll to and highlight the next options and Power button to confirm selection.

Huawei P30 slow charging fix #8: Install updates

Some bugs may develop if the software or apps are outdated. Make sure to install updates if they are available now. Software and apps updates usually offer fix patch to obliterate existing problems inflicted by random bugs and malicious software. If you have not set your device and/or apps to auto-update, then you will need to manually install pending updates. Here is how to manually check for software updates on the P30:

1. Go to Settings.
2. Tap System.
3. Select System Update.
4. Tap the option to Check for Updates.

To check for any pending app updates you have downloaded through the Google Play Store app, launch Play Store then navigate to the Updates section. You will then see a list of apps with pending updates. Just tap on Update to install individual app updates or tap Update All to update apps simultaneously.

Don’t forget to reboot/soft reset your P30 after installing updates to ensure all new software changes are properly implemented and to prevent any app from going rogue.

Huawei P30 slow charging fix #9: Check for overheating 

Does your Huawei P30 becomes uncomfortably warm to touch while charging? If yes, it may be overheating, which can signal that there’s either a battery issue, or software glitch. Your device will become warm if it’s charging fast but if heat becomes unbearable, that’s no longer normal. Make sure to immediately disconnect the device from the charger and allow it to cool down. Then, try charging it while it’s off before proceeding to the next troubleshooting steps below.

Huawei P30 slow charging fix #10: Check apps running the background

As mentioned above, too many apps running at the same time actively or in the background, can affect the rate of your device’s charging speed. Try to close apps and see if that will make a difference while charging.

To force close an app:

1. Open the Settings app.
2. Navigate to Application Manager.
3. Tap the All tab.
4. Select your Messaging app.
5. Then tap Force Stop.

If you want to close all running apps:

1. Go to the Home screen.
2. Swipe up from the bottom of the screen until the list of apps appear.
3. Tap on the End all applications icon.

Huawei P30 slow charging fix #11: Charge on Safe Mode

If your device is overheating while charging, or if the problem occurred after installing an app, you may have a third party app issue. Try to boot the device to safe mode to check. In safe mode, no third party app should be able to run. So, if fast charging works normally on safe mode, you can bet a bad third party app is to blame. Here’s how to boot it to safe mode:

1. Power off the device.
2. Power it back on.
3. Once you see the Huawei animation on the screen press and hold Volume Down button.
4. You can see safe mode at the bottom left corner once the device finishes booting.
5. Now that the device has started on safe mode, charge the device and see if there’s a difference.

Don’t forget: safe mode blocks third party apps but it won’t tell you which of them is the real cause. If you think that there’s a rogue third party app in the system, you must identify it. Here’s what you need to do exactly:

1. Boot to safe mode.
2. Check for the problem.
3. Once you’ve confirmed that a third party app is to blame, you can start uninstalling apps individually. We suggest that you begin with the most recent ones you added.
4. After you uninstall an app, restart the phone to normal mode and check for the problem.
5. If your Huawei P30 is still problematic, repeat steps 1-4.

Huawei P30 slow charging fix #12: Factory reset

If the charging is still slow on your Huawei P30 after doing all the suggestions above, consider erasing your device. There are two methods to perform a factory reset on your Huawei P30. You want to do the first one first if there’s no problem going under Settings menu.

Method 1: Hard reset on Huawei P30 via Settings

Wiping your phone with factory reset will automatically erase information from your device’s internal storage. The software environment on your device is basically returned to its original form, just like when it left the factory. This means that everything you added to the device like files, photos, videos, and apps will all be deleted. If you don’t want to lose irreplaceable data, make sure to create a backup ahead of time.

There can be many different reasons why a user may want to factory reset a device. If your situation calls for a Hard reset on Huawei P30  and you are able to access your device’s settings menu, then this first method is for you. It’s easier to do compared to the second one below so this is a go-to method for you.

To perform a Hard reset on Huawei P30 via Settings:

1. Create a backup of your personal data.
2. Turn on the device.
3. Tap Settings.
4. Tap System.
5. Choose Reset.
6. Tap Reset all settings.
7. Tap Reset all settings.
8. Confirm the action by tapping on Reset all settings.
9. Wait for factory reset to finish.

Method 2: Hard reset on Huawei P30 via Recovery Mode

This method is useful in one particular situation: when Settings menu is not accessible. There may be a variety of reasons why Settings menu may become unreachable. In some cases, the device may have simply frozen or unresponsive. At other times, it can be due to a problem that you are currently trying to troubleshoot. In any case, you must do Hard reset on Huawei P30 via Recovery Mode when the situation forces you to. We still recommend that you use the first method as your primary option for convenience reasons. Effects-wise, the two methods don’t have any difference at all. The device will be completely sanitized and all user data deleted after doing any of them.

To perform a Hard reset on Huawei P30 via Recovery Mode:

2. Turn off the mobile by pressing the Power key for a few moments.
3. Press and hold Volume Up and Power buttons for a couple of seconds.
4. When Recovery Mode appears let go of all keys​​​​​​.
5. Now choose “wipe data/factory reset”. Use Volume buttons to navigate and the Power key to accept it.
6. Confirm the operation by typing in “yes” and select “wipe data/factory reset”.
7. When you see the Google Verification info confirm the operation by selecting “wipe data/factory reset”.
8. Finally choose “reboot system now” by using the Power key.
