Problem #1: How to fix Galaxy S7 weak cellular signal strength issue

Hello. I live in a rural area and have weak cell service. I have lived in this location for more than 5 years. I previously had a Samsung Brightside and a Samsung S4 mini and did not have any reception problems at my home. I recently purchased a Samsung S7 and am having terrible reception problems in my home. The signal strength on the phone frequently says -104dBm +/- and my calls break up. I can physically make calls but people can not hear me. Not garbled – but dead silence for the people on the other end.  My husband has an iPhone — also on Verizon — and does not have any of the problems that I am having with the Samsung S7. His phone shows the same -104dBm. I spoke with tech services at Verizon and they ran through basic trouble shooting. We also replaced the SIM card — no change. Solution: Hi Roni. Frankly, there’s nothing much that you can do about the problem. There are only two available options for you. The first one is simpler: by asking for a replacement Galaxy S7 from Verizon. There’s a chance that the issue may be due to bad radio on the current phone. Your two other phones did not appear to suffer from weak signal strength issue in the same area so the most likely reason for the S7 problem is hardware in nature. Having it replaced may fix the issue.

The second option, using a cellphone signal booster, is more complicated and requires installation of additional hardware. Also known as cellphone repeater, using this device means that weak signals are amplified in your house. This usually requires an additional hardware to be mounted outside your house, usually in an elevated location like a roof. The weak signal from your carrier’s tower is captured by the external antenna and transmitted to a device inside, which is then amplified and broadcast to a certain location in your home. It works in reverse as well, amplifying the signal from your S7 for transmittal to your carrier’s tower.

If you are open to the idea of the second option, contact Verizon to see if they offer such service.

Alternatively, you can buy your own signal booster from third party electronic shops. Just make sure that the device is compatible with Verizon’s network.

Problem #2: Galaxy S7 screen showing white line after a drop

My phone fell from a table and landed on the back. Now they have a white line that is going across the top of the phone directly through the time and battery symbol all the way across. The screen isn’t cracked it is like on the inside. Now when the phone is in rest mode there is a white light that flashes above the line. and when i am using the phone the screen is a little blinky. Is there a way to fix this? — Trent

Solution: Hi Trent. If the said white line was not there before you dropped the phone, you can safely assume that LCD may have suffered from minor damage. That means that you have a hardware problem at hand. No amount of software troubleshooting can therefore fix it. While we don’t recommend that you open your phone and replace the screen assembly yourself, it may be one of your few options at this time.

We still suggest that you contact Samsung though to see if they can fix the problem themselves. Doing so is not only a safer way to go (trust us, screen replacement for Galaxy S series devices is tricky and relatively difficult to pull off), but it will also save you from the hassles of the procedure itself. Hardware repair requires a few specialist tools, not to mention electronic knowledge. If you want to repair the screen yourself, please look for solutions using Google as our blog does provide detailed hardware troubleshooting, diagnostics, and solutions.

Problem #3: “Unable to access web browser for Wi-Fi sign in due to an unauthorized factory reset” error on Galaxy S7

When I attempt to log into the phone and when get to the internet login, the device says: “unable to access web browser for Wi-Fi sign in due to an unauthorized factory reset.” I try to reset the phone but when it gets to that process, it states the same error. My son who claims to be “a phone know-it-all” was playing with the phone when this happened. He is about to inherit a $700 dollars brick, if this cannot be resolved. — Stanley

Solution: Hi Stanley. The only instance this error (“unable to access web browser for Wi-Fi sign in due to an unauthorized factory reset”) shows up is when you try to modify a Samsung Galaxy software. This software modification can take the form of rooting, romming, or flashing of custom recovery. If your son did any of these things, tell him to reflash the stock firmware. This is the only effective solution that we know.

We are not 100% certain if this error is caused by Factory Reset Protection but it may also help if you can ask your son if he tried to provide the correct Google account credentials when prompted for it.

Factory reset is also worth trying if the rest of the phone features work. To factory reset the device, kindly follow these steps:

Step 1: Turn off your Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge.

Step 2: Press and then hold the Home and Volume UP keys, then press and hold the Power key.

NOTE: It doesn’t matter how long you press and hold the Home and Volume Up keys, it won’t affect the phone but by the time you press and hold the Power key, that’s when the phone starts to respond.

Step 3: When the Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge shows on the screen, release the Power key but continue holding the Home and Volume Up keys.

Step 4: When the Android logo shows, you may release both keys and leave the phone be for about 30 to 60 seconds.

NOTE: The “Installing system update” message may show on the screen for several seconds before displaying the Android system recovery menu. This is just the first phase of the entire process.

Step 5: Using the Volume Down key, navigate through the options and highlight ‘wipe data / factory reset.’

Step 6: Once highlighted, you may press the Power key to select it.

Step 7: Now highlight the option ‘Yes — delete all user data’ using the Volume Down key and press the Power button to select it.

Step 8: Wait until your phone is finished doing the Master Reset. Once completed, highlight ‘Reboot system now’ and press the Power key.

Step 9: The phone will now reboot longer than usual.

Problem #4: Galaxy S7 not getting all texts in group conversation from iPhone users

Former iPhone user with AT&T. Switched to Samsung Edge 7 with Verizon. 

Can’t receive/see all texts within a group conversation. 

The missing texts always seem to come from iPhone users although some iPhone users I do still receive and others I do not. 

Also, while I might not receive from certain iPhone users in group conversations, I never have a problem if they are just texting me alone.  There is only a problem in group messages. — Becky

Solution: Hi Becky. The main reason why Android users usually encounter group messaging problems when iPhone users are in the mix is the fact that iOS devices, including iPhones, uses Apple’s proprietary messaging system called iMessage. This system only works for iOS devices obviously. In its most basic level, iMessage routes and keeps messages in Apple servers only, therefore group messages sent through this system are not transmitted to third party networks like third party carriers. If some of your friends are using iMessage to reply to a group message you are in, their messages will only be displayed on iOS devices but not to your S7 or other non-Apple products. You must tell your friends not to use iMessage when replying to a group message that includes members using non-Apple gadgets so that everyone will receive their texts. Apple’s exclusivity is the main culprit in this situation so you are faced with a hard choice of asking iPhone users to be mindful when responding to group message. This is the reason why you don’t have a problem receiving text messages from iPhone users at all.

As a remedy, you can also ask members in your group to use third party apps that works across different platforms like Facebook Messenger or Google Hangouts.

  1. Hi iv got samsung s7 and after 1st update film 1 it frozze til i got it fixed by moble place . But since iv had reception ussies badly only telstra works 99% well in it. But i NEED vodafone in it but has 3g or 4g problem cuts out big time . I just dont no wat to do iv asked every phone dealer but no help

  2. Simple solution to poor signal make sure global mode is on if so no need for a signal boost use wifi calling this is free and no install required go to settings>advanced calling>wifi calling and set it up, no need to pay 150.00 – 200.00
