How to boot your LG G6 in Safe mode, wipe cache partition, factory and master reset [Tutorials]

How to restart LG G6 in Safe mode

Restarting your phone in safe mode means you’re  bringing it up to its diagnostic state wherein all third-party apps are temporarily disabled. This would allow you to troubleshoot problem more effectively knowing there are no interference for third-party services. In the case wherein the phone cannot function properly due to a third-party app that keeps crashing, booting in safe mode will give you 100% access to your phone minus the lags, freezes, etc. Here are the steps in booting your G6 in safe mode...

  1. With the screen on, press and hold the Power key.
  2. In the options menu that displays, press and hold Power off.
  3. When ‘Restart in Safe mode’ displays, tap OK to restart in Safe mode.
  4. Upon restart, device displays ‘Safe mode’ at bottom of screen.

To get out of Safe mode, simply reboot your phone normally.

How to delete the system caches on your LG G6

The system caches are temporarily files created by the system to help in making your device buttery smooth when used. However, there are times when these files become corrupt and if the system continues to use them, performance issues may occur like freezes, lags, reboots, shutdowns, app crashes, etc.  When it happens, you need to delete the caches and since you don’t have access to individual files, you just got to delete the entire content of the cache partition and this is how you do it.

Tab View

  1. From the home screen, tap Apps.
  2. Tap Settings.
  3. Tap the General tab.
  4. Under ‘PHONE MANAGEMENT,’ tap Storage.
  5. Under ‘DEVICE STORAGE,’ tap Internal storage.
  6. Wait for the menu options to finish calculating.
  7. Tap Cached data > CLEAR.
  8. Wait for the cached data to clear; depending on size, it will take several seconds to complete.
  9. When the wipe is complete, the storage screen refreshes and Cached data shows as 0 B. This means your cached data has been successfully cleared.

List View

  1. From the home screen, tap Apps.
  2. Tap Settings.
  3. Under ‘DEVICE,’ tap Storage.
  4. Under ‘DEVICE STORAGE,’ tap Internal storage.
  5. Wait for the menu options to finish calculating.
  6. Tap Cached data > CLEAR.
  7. Wait for the cached data to clear; depending on size, it will take several seconds to complete.
  8. When the wipe is complete, the storage screen refreshes and Cached data shows as 0 B. This means your cached data has been successfully cleared.

How to Factory Reset your LG G6 (via Settings)

There are times when problems occur one after another and you just don’t know what to do to fix them. When you’ve exhausted all possible solutions and nothing seems to work, this is where the reset is necessary. Below are the steps on how to reset your phone via the Settings menu.

  1. Back up data on the internal memory.
  2. Tap Settings.
  3. Tap the General tab.
  4. Under ‘PHONE MANAGEMENT,’ tap Backup & reset.
  5. Select or clear the following check boxes: Back up my data, Automatic restore.
  6. Tap Backup account and follow the steps to create Google backup account, if necessary.
  7. Under RESET, tap Factory data reset.
  8. Review the warning message, then select or clear Erase SD card.
  9. Tap RESET PHONE.
  10. Enter PIN if prompted, then tap OK.
  11. Tap Delete all.
  12. Tap RESET.

List View

  1. Back up data on the internal memory.
  2. Tap Settings.
  3. Under ‘PERSONAL,’ tap Backup & reset.
  4. Select or clear the following check boxes: Back up my data, Automatic restore.
  5. Tap Backup account and follow the steps to create Google backup account, if necessary.
  6. Under ‘RESET,’ tap Factory data reset.
  7. Review the warning message, then select or clear Erase SD card.
  8. Tap RESET PHONE.
  9. Enter PIN if prompted, then tap OK.
  10. Tap Delete all.
  11. Tap RESET.

How to Master Reset your LG G6 (via Recovery Mode)

A master reset, while basically the same as the factory reset, can be very useful if you phone can no longer boot up into its interface successfully and is stuck during boot up. Following the steps below, you will bring your phone up to Android system recovery where you have an option to reset your device and virtually erase all third-party files and data.

  1. Back up data on the internal memory.
  2. Turn off the device.
  3. Press and hold the Power and Volume down buttons.
  4. When the LG logo appears, quickly release and then re-hold the Power button while continuing to hold the Volume down button.
  5. ‘Factory data reset’ appears.
  6. Use the Volume down button to highlight Yes.
  7. Press the Power button to confirm.
  8. Erase all user data and restore default settings’ appears.
  9. Use the Volume down button to highlight Yes.
  10. Press the Power button to reset the device.
