Planning a vacation in Cyprus this year? Great! The Middle East can be a fun, and beautiful place to visit, depending on your choice of location. Cyprus is one of those nice locations, and is very accepting of tourists. That said, if you're planning on visiting, you'll want to make sure to knock out those to do's on your check list before heading out. However, you'll also want to make sure that you have all of your bases covered.
One area that most people aren't thinking about is the data you're going to use internationally. Roaming charges can be insanely pricey, but that's why you'll want to make sure that you're picking up an international SIM card for your travels. It's much cheaper than paying the hundreds, if not thousands in roaming fees. Here are five of our favorites.
The first international SIM card that we're taking a look at is Orange's very own Holiday SIM. Despite Cyprus being technically a Middle Eastern country, the Holiday SIM works fine in the nation. Hook this one up to your unlocked GSM phone, and you'll get fast 4G LTE data in Cyprus, as well as talk and text capabilities. You'll have no problem when you're traveling through other countries in the EU either, as the Orange Holiday SIM works in most popular destinations in Europe.
Orange's Holiday SIM will give you a whopping 10GB of 4G LTE data that you can use in Cyprus for 14 days. Orange gives you up to two hours of talk time, and then another 1,000 SMS messages to use, also with the ability to top off as needed (which, naturally extends the duration of the SIM card, too).
UK Europe ThreeUK SIM Card
In third position on our countdown, we're looking at ThreeUK's very best international SIM choice. This is the best SIM that they have available yet, actually competing directly with Orange and their Holiday SIM here. ThreeUK gives your unlocked GSM phone access to a whopping 12GB of data, 3000 minutes in talk time and 3000 messages. ThreeUK tries to keep their prices competitive with Orange as well.
Naturally, when you're running low on data, talk, or text, you can easily refill.
Mobal Europe Plus SIM
The Mobal Europe Plus SIM comes up as second on our countdown. You get a whole 1GB of data to use with your purchase, with Mobal estimating that this should last you a couple days with minor use while in Cyprus. However, if you start running low on data in the country, Mobal allows you to quickly top off whenever you need to make it last through your trip. One thing that's quite unique about the Mobal SIM is that they give you unrestricted tethering. With most carriers, there is a service charge of some sort attached to hotspots, but Mobal allows you to use it for free.
Additionally, you can accept incoming calls and text messages for free. However, if you need to make outgoing calls, or send out text messages, this is where Mobal starts charging, and at rates of 30¢ per minute rates in all countries.
Internet with legs Trio
ThreeUK also has a SIM card package that they're calling the "Internet with legs Trio SIM card." It gives you just 3GB of data for on the go use in Finland. 3GB isn't bad, as that's the average rate someone would use on a per month basis.. What might be on the more unique side is that ThreeUK brings some electronic devices mobile hotspot / tethering access, too.
What we really like about this SIM card in particular is that it works as a "try before you buy" sort of option. ThreeUK actually gives you free roaming in the US to make sure it works with your phone before committing to it.
Keepgo Global Lifetime SIM Card
And finally, we're looking at Keepgo's Global Lifetime SIM card. It's certainly not the best SIM choice in comparison to the other four on our list; however it's still significantly better than simply going with your carrier's roaming charges. You'll still save yourself plenty of money, and even though only 1GB of data is offered up initially, you can refill as needed.
We should let you know that the SIM card only stays valid for 1 year, but that's extended by another year whenever you refill your data. This one only works with unlocked GSM phones, and there are no talk or text abilities.
As you can see, there are a lot of excellent international SIM cards that you can use for when traveling to Cyprus. The Orange Holiday SIM is one of our favorites, offering you some excellent value for money, in addition to fast, 4G LTE speeds, as well as plenty of talk and text time.
