Off to Romania? Then you'll want to make sure that you have an international SIM card for visiting the country. You don't want to go somewhere without sorting out your phone and its data, as you could easily end up with hundreds, if not a a couple grand in roaming fees and charges. It happens way too often.
That said, you'll want to pick up an international SIM card that provides you data while abroad. These can cost anywhere between $20 and $60 -- talk about the savings when it comes to roaming charges! Follow along below, and we'll show you five of our favorite choices today.
Coming up as our first and favorite choice, we're looking at the Orange Holiday SIM. Orange is one of the premier telecom companies in the EU, providing 4G LTE coverage to phone across 30 or more EU countries. That said, you'll get a reliable cell connection wherever you are in the EU, even if you have to stop at a few countries on your way to Romania.
The Holiday SIM gives you a whole 10GB of data to use while in Romania, and on top of that there's also two hours of talk time, and then another 1,000 SMS messages to use in addition to your data. When you're running low, you can refill as needed. This SIM only lasts for 14 days, but if you decide to stay longer, you can go into your account and extend that.
UK Europe ThreeUK SIM Card
ThreeUK's UK-Europe SIM card sits decidedly in third place, and is actually really close to what Orange offers in its own Holiday SIM card. In this one, there's 12GB of data, 3000 minutes in talk time and 3000 messages. You actually have calling and text features here, whereas many of the data-only SIMs today don't. That means you don't have to rely on social messaging apps like WhatsApp and Facebook Messenger for your communication.
You can only use this with with smartphone, as it won't work with other devices. You can't stream video with this one either, nor use it in a mobile hotspot form.
Mobal Europe Plus SIM
Next up, we're looking at the Mobal Europe Plus SIM. With your purchase of the SIM card, you get a free 1GB of data to use in Romania or another European country; however, once that's used up, you'll have to pay for each 1GB used, which sits at a rate of $10 per gig. Talk and text rates are additional cost, and sit at 30¢ per minute rates in all countries.
That said, this SIM card ends up being a little bit on the pricier side of things, but is still way cheaper than simply rolling with the charges attached to your carrier's roaming plan.
Internet with legs Trio
Coming up next, we're looking at the Internet with Legs Trio SIM card. This one isn't nearly as well-rounded as the previous ThreeUK SIM card, as it offers data-only. That means you have to rely on your data for a lot of communication, such as through platforms like Facebook Messenger and WhatsApp for text and call features. You still get 4G LTE support, which keeps apps moving quickly.
Additionally, this SIM card only works with unlocked GSM phones. It comes with just 3GB of data to use while in Romania, but can be topped off with more data whenever needed.
Keepgo Global Lifetime SIM Card
Last up, we're looking at the Keepgo Global Lifetime SIM card. Want fast 4G LTE speeds in Romania? Don't need a massive amount of data? Then this SIM card will definitely be right up your alley. It actually has a few similarities to the Mobal SIM card, giving you 1GB of data with your purchase. Use up that data, and then its $10 per 1GB. Being a data-only SIM card, you'll have to rely on your data for communication more, since it doesn't support actual phone calls or text.
As you can see, there are so many excellent international SIM cards for traveling abroad to places like Romania, However, we think Orange's Holiday SIM is your best choice here, providing you with data, talk, and text function. Not only that, but it's so much more affordable than most roaming rates today.
