WhatsApp keeps crashing on Samsung Galaxy S10 Plus

WhatsApp keeps crashing on Galaxy S10 Plus

I have personally encountered similar issues in the past and I can assure you that most of the time, this kind of problem isn’t really serious and you can surely fix it by yourself. With that being said, here are the things you need to do if WhatsApp keeps crashing on your phone…

First solution: Perform the Forced Restart procedure first

It is imperative that you perform this procedure first because it is very much possible that WhatsApp keeps crashing due to a minor firmware issue or even just a glitch. Issues like this happen all the time and while they’re pretty annoying and may seem serious, they’re actually easy to fix and that’s when Forced Restart enters. It’s a simulated battery removal and very effective. Here’s how it’s done:

1. Press and hold the Volume Down button and don’t release it yet.
2. While holding down the volume button, press and hold the Power key as well.
3. Keep both keys held down together for 15 seconds or until the Galaxy S10 Plus logo shows on the screen.

Once the phone has successfully restarted, try to see if WhatsApp keeps crashing still on your Galaxy S10 Plus. If it still does, then move on to the next solution.

Second solution: Clear WhatsApp cache

The Android system creates cache for individual apps. These are temporary files that help make apps run smoothly. However, there are times when they get corrupted and when it happens, issues like this may occur. But don’t worry because if it’s really the case, then you should be able to fix it by doing the following:

1. Swipe down from the top of the screen to pull the notification panel down.
2. Tap the Settings icon on the upper-right corner.
3. Scroll to and then tap Apps.
4. Find and tap WhatsApp.
5. Tap Storage.
6. Touch Clear cache.

Once the cache is deleted, open the app and see if WhatsApp keeps crashing still and if it does, move on to the next solution.

Third solution: Delete WhatsApp data

After deleting the cache and WhatsApp still keeps on crashing, the next thing you have to do is to reset it. In resetting apps, what you have to do is delete is data files and here’s how it’s done:

1. Swipe down from the top of the screen to pull the notification panel down.
2. Tap the Settings icon on the upper-right corner.
3. Scroll to and then tap Apps.
4. Find and tap WhatsApp.
5. Tap Storage.
6. Touch Clear data and then tap OK to confirm.
7. Restart your device.

After the reboot, open the app and try using it to see if WhatsApp keeps crashing even after this procedure. If it still does, it’s time for a more effective solution.

Fourth solution: Uninstall WhatsApp and reinstall it

When it comes to app issues, this one is pretty effective. In fact, this could be the end of this problem. This will remove all the app’s association with the firmware and other applications. Don’t worry, you won’t lose any of your files. Here’s how  you do it:

1. Swipe down from the top of the screen to pull the notification panel down.
2. Tap the Settings icon on the upper-right corner.
3. Scroll to and then tap Apps.
4. Find and tap WhatsApp.
5. Tap Storage.
6. Touch Clear data and tap OK to confirm.
7. Tap the back key once and then touch Uninstall.
8. Confirm that you want to remove the app from your phone.
9. Restart your device to refresh its memory.

After this, install the app again and see if the problem continues. Here’s how to install an app on your phone…

1. From the Home screen, pull the app drawer up.
2. Find and tap on Play Store.
3. Search for ‘whatsapp’.
4. Tap WhatsApp and touch Install.
5. Once you’ve successfully installed the app, tap Open.

Most of the time this will fix the problem. However, if WhatsApp keeps crashing still after this procedure, then it could be just a sign of a firmware issue. This time, you will have to reset your phone.

Fifth solution: Backup your files and reset your phone

A master reset will fix any app- or software-related issues including app crashes. But the thing is we don’t suggest this procedure without first exhausting all possible solutions but it seems that you ran out of options. So, create a backup of your important files and data as they will be deleted during the process. After the backup, remove both your Google and Samsung accounts so that you won’t be locked out of your device. After that, follow these steps to reset your phone:

1. Turn off the device.
2. Press and hold the Volume Up key and the Bixby key, then press and hold the Power key.
3. When the Galaxy S10+ logo shows, release all three keys.
4. Your Galaxy S10 Plus will continue to boot up into the Recovery Mode. Once you see a black screen with blue and yellow texts, proceed to the next step.
5. Press the Volume down key several times to highlight ‘wipe data / factory reset’.
6. Press Power button to select.
7. Press the Volume down key until ‘Yes’ is highlighted.
8. Press Power button to select and start the master reset.
9. When the master reset is complete, ‘Reboot system now’ is highlighted.
10. Press the Power key to restart the device.
