Some owners of the Fitbit Ionic have been complaining about their trackers that no longer charges. Others say that their units ran out of battery but they tried connecting to the charger, it won’t respond. There were also those whose trackers still have a few percent of battery so troubleshooting was easier for them.
Charging issues are a common problem to all electronic devices that rely on battery to power them up and this includes the Fitbit trackers. While the Ionic isn’t as sophisticated as smartphones or other smartwatches, there are times when charging is a challenge. But the thing is that charging problems aren’t always that difficult to fix.
In this post, I will guide on how to make your Fitbit Ionic charge normally again using nothing but basic troubleshooting procedures. As long as there are no signs of physical damage on your tracker, this problem isn’t that serious. So, read on to know what to do.

Going back to our troubleshooting, here are the things you need to do if your Fitbit Ionic won’t charge…
- Connect the Fitbit Ionic to its charging dock or cradle but don’t plug it yet.
- Make sure the charging dock is plugged to a working USB port or charger.
- Allow Ionic to charge overnight.
- Verify that the tracker is not wet.
This first solution has been shared by some of our readers. According to them, the device would respond if it’s connected to its charging dock or cradle. Just connect the tracker to the charger and let it sit for a while but don’t connect it to the power source yet. There were those who said that they left the device on the cradle for an hour or two and when they checked, the device was already powered on. So, this procedure is applicable to the units that were turned off and would no longer respond.
However, if it still won’t charge after that, then it’s time you plugged the charger to a power source but make sure that the Ionic sits properly on the dock so that connectors touch the contacts on the tracker. Leave the Ionic on its cradle or charger for a few hours or let it sit there overnight. In the morning, check to see if it turns on or if its battery is fully-charged. If it did not charge, then make sure that it’s not wet by wiping off its contacts with clean, dry tissue paper. If all else fails, contact support or bring the unit back to the store.
