What to do if Galaxy Note10+ screen keeps flickering | flickering screen

If your Galaxy Note10+ screen keeps flickering, there are a number of possible factors for it. Learn how to fix this problem below.

Galaxy Note10+ screen keeps flickering fix #1: Check for screen damage

The screens of Samsung Galaxy devices, especially those of flagship S and Note series, are known for reliability even after years of use. They can withstand the normal wear and tear of regular years for a long time without encountering problems. However, they still remain relatively weak against accidental drops and all sorts of physical damage to the device. If the screen on your Galaxy Note10+ keeps flickering after you’ve dropped the phone or hit it with something hard, there may be a hardware issue that you need to take care first. Check for telltale signs of hardware damage by looking for a crack or dent. A damaged screen also may not only display issues in showing images. If you experience having an unresponsive touchscreen, or if there are other issues with the phone after it has been dropped or physically damaged, you should consider letting a Samsung technician check it. Some screen problems are not visible and may require under-the-hood checkups. Go to your local Samsung store and see if they recommend repair. If they do, then you should do it if you want the screen issue to be fixed permanently.

Screen replacement is the only permanent fix for a physically damaged or cracked screen. However, if you don’t want to send the phone in for repair right away and plan to, say, create a backup first, then you can try to see if the display is still functional. If the crack is not that big or serious, you can try to tape it first. This is obviously not a permanent fix but it can give you some time to allow you to perhaps save your files to a computer or another device. If the digitizer, the clear layer on top of the display that receives your finger touches, is not fully damaged and if the screen still shows images, try to apply a piece of packaging tape over the screen. Hopefully, this will prevent the damage from getting worse to let you use your phone for some time.

Galaxy Note10+ screen keeps flickering fix #2: Do forced reboot

Forcing your Galaxy Note+ to reboot is another way to sometimes fix this type of problem. This can work if the cause of the problem is a temporary bug that causes the system to freeze or become unresponsive. If you haven’t tried this yet, be sure that you do it this time. Try restarting it normally first by pressing the Power button to access the boot menu. Then, select Restart option and see if that works.

Another way to restart the device is by pressing and holding the Volume Down button and the Power key at the same time for 10 seconds or until the device’s screen turns on. This simulates the effect of having disconnected the battery from the device. If this works, this may unlock the device.

If doing the regular restart won’t help, then try this:

  1. Press and hold the Volume Down button first and don’t release it.
  2. While holding it down, press and hold the Power key.
  3. Keep both keys held down for 10 seconds or more.

The second restart procedure tries to simulate the effects of removing the battery pack. On older devices, disconnecting the battery is often an effective way in fixing unresponsive devices. If nothing changed though, proceed to the next suggestions.

Rebooting your device regularly at least once every week can be beneficial. If you tend to forget things, we suggest that you configure your phone to reboot on its own. You can schedule it to do this task by doing these steps:

  1. Open Settings app.
  2. Tap Device Care.
  3. Tap the 3-dot at the top.
  4. Select Auto restart.

Galaxy Note10+ screen keeps flickering fix #3: Install updates

Some Android problems are due to poor coding. Although we don’t hear any flickering screen problem due to firmware glitch, it’s not a bad idea to keep Android and apps up-to-date. If you’re lucky and your unique case is due to an unknown software or app glitch, installing updates may help.

Galaxy Note10+ screen keeps flickering fix #4: Adjust brightness level

If the Galaxy Note10+ screen still keeps flickering, another simple way to possibly fix it is by adjusting the brightness level. Try to pull screen brightness all the way down, then shut the phone off. After a few moments, power the phone back on and see if the screen is stable. Then, increase screen brightness again and observe.

Galaxy Note10+ screen keeps flickering fix #5: Clear cache partition

If the problem is still here at this point, the next thing that you can do is to ensure that you wipe the cache partition. This is a portion of your internal storage that keeps the system cache. Sometimes, updates or app installation may corrupt the system cache and cause problems. Fortunately, problems coming from a bad system cache can easily be fixed by simply clearing the cache partition. This will erase the system cache so the system can rebuild a new one as you use the device. If you haven’t tried this one yet, here’s how to do it:

  1. Turn off the device.
  2. Press and hold the Volume Up key and the Bixby / Power key.
  3. When the green Android logo displays, release both keys (‘Installing system update’ will show for about 30 – 60 seconds before showing the Android system recovery menu options).
  4. The Recovery screen menu will now appear. When you see this, release the buttons.
  5. Use the Volume Down button until you are highlighting ‘Wipe cache partition.’
  6. Press the Power button to select ‘Wipe cache partition.’
  7. Use Volume Down to highlight Yes.
  8. Press the Power button to confirm the action to clear the cache.
  9. Wait for a second as the system wipes the cache.
  10. Press the Power button again to reboot the device. This will return the device to the normal interface.
  11. That’s it!

Galaxy Note10+ screen keeps flickering fix #6: Check for rogue apps

Another possible reason for your problem may be a third party app. Sometimes, a third party app may interfere with Android and causes problems. To check if that’s the case, restart the phone to safe mode and see what happens. On Safe Mode, all third party apps will be suspended. So, if your Note10+ detects the SD card and works with it normally, that means one of the downloaded apps is to blame. Learn how to restart your phone to Safe Mode with these steps:

  1. Turn the device off.
  2. Press and hold the Power key past the model name screen.
  3. When “SAMSUNG” appears on the screen, release the Power key.
  4. Immediately after releasing the Power key, press and hold the Volume down key.
  5. Continue to hold the Volume down key until the device finishes restarting.
  6. Safe mode will display in the bottom left corner of the screen.
  7. Release the Volume down key when you see Safe Mode.

If your SD works normally on safe mode, you must find out which of your apps is causing the trouble. To do that:

  1. Boot to safe mode.
  2. Check for the problem.
  3. Once you’ve confirmed that a third party app is to blame, you can start uninstalling apps individually. We suggest that you begin with the most recent ones you added.
  4. After you uninstall an app, restart the phone to normal mode and check for the problem.
  5. If your Galaxy Note10+ is still problematic, repeat steps 1-4.

Galaxy Note10+ screen keeps flickering fix #7: Optimize device

Your Galaxy Note10+  packs a punch. Hardware-wise, it’s one of the fastest devices in the market today. If you recently noticed that it seems to be slowing down when you open apps or whenever it does a task, there may be a bug that causes it. The first thing that you want to do about this issue is to ensure that you optimize the system. There’s a default system option to do this. Follow the steps below.

  1. Open Settings app.
  2. Tap Device Care.
  3. Tap Optimize Now button.
  4. Tap Done when finished.

Sometimes, lack of storage space in internal memory can cause the system to work sluggishly. Once you’ve optimized the device, tap on Storage below the Optimized button. At the top section, you should see the estimated remaining storage space. If you’re running low on space, make sure to delete some files. In order for the system to work normally, there should be at least 1GB of storage left. If you badly needed space, you can move non-system critical files like photos, videos, audio, or documents to your computer or to an SD card.

Galaxy Note10+ screen keeps flickering fix #8: Reset all settings

If the problem remains, the next good thing that you can do is to try to reset all settings. This is usually effective in fixing problems that may be caused by a software bug. Here’s how it’s done:

  1. Open Settings app.
  2. Tap General management.
  3. Tap Reset.
  4. Tap Reset all settings.
  5. Tap RESET button.

Galaxy Note10+ screen keeps flickering fix #9: Factory reset

The final troubleshooting step that you can perform on your device right now is factory reset. If the screen on your Galaxy Note10+ still keeps flickering, returning the software to its defaults may help. Below are the two ways to factory reset your S10:

Method 1: How to hard reset on Samsung Galaxy S10 via Settings Menu

Method 2: How to hard reset on Samsung Galaxy S10 using hardware buttons

If your case is that the phone is not booting up, or it boots but Settings menu is inaccessible, this method can be helpful. First, you need to boot the device to Recovery Mode. Once you successfully access Recovery, that’s the time that you begin proper master reset procedure. It may take some tries for you before you can access Recovery so be patient and simply try again.

  1. If possible, create a backup of your personal data ahead of time. If your problem prevents you from doing that, then simply skip this step.
  2. Also, you want to make sure that you remove your Google account. If your problem prevents you from doing that, then simply skip this step.
  3. Turn off the device. This is important. If you can’t turn it off, you’ll never be able to boot to Recovery Mode. If you are not able to shut the device off regularly via the Power button, wait until the phone’s battery is drained. Then, charge the phone for 30 minutes before booting to Recovery Mode.
  4. Press and hold the Volume Up key and the Bixby / Power key.
  5. When the green Android logo displays, release both keys (‘Installing system update’ will show for about 30 – 60 seconds before showing the Android system recovery menu options).
  6. The Recovery screen menu will now appear. When you see this, release the buttons.
  7. Use the Volume Down button until you are highlighting ‘Wipe data/factory reset.’
  8. Press the Power button to select ‘Wipe data/factory reset.’
  9. Use Volume Down to highlight Yes.
  10. Press the Power button to confirm factory reset.
  11. Follow the rest of the instructions to finish the task.

Galaxy Note10+ screen keeps flickering fix #10: Repair

If factory reset won’t work, your last option is repair. Visit your local Samsung store or Service Center for help.
