S9 No Text Message Notification At Night

Problem: I have a Samsung Galaxy S9, and recently (within last month and a half). I have not been getting text message notifications in the middle of the night. I am on a hazmat team and when not on shift at the fire department this is how we are notified. The messages appear, but there is no noise to alert me that one has come in. I have missed several emergency hazmat calls now. Not sure if an app on my phone is causing the issue or what it could be. First time, I thought maybe I just slept through it, but now 2 more times it has happened. I will wake up in the morning with 5+ text messages for the callout.

Solution: Try checking if you have the do not disturb mode enabled in your phone since if it is enabled during evenings then you won’t be getting any text message notifications.

  • While you on the Home screen, slide it up.
  • Now open Settings.
  • Go to Sounds and vibration
  • Then switch on Do not disturb and go into it
  • Make sure that this feature is turned off.

If this feature is already off but then you are still not getting any text message notifications then proceed with the additional troubleshooting steps listed below.

  • Start the phone in Safe Mode. This way you can check if an app you downloaded is causing the problem. If the issue does not occur in this mode then it’s very likely caused by a downloaded app. Find out what app this is and uninstall it.
  • Backup your phone data then do a factory reset.

S9 Unable To Send Or Receive Text Messages

Problem: I’ve had my phone for a couple of weeks now and it seems that every other day my phone is unable to send or receive any text messages for almost the whole day. I tried resetting it, and even doing a soft reset, but nothing has helped and I’m unsure what to do about it

Solution: The quickest way to troubleshoot this problem is to first isolate the SIM card of your phone. Remove this card and insert it in another phone. Check if the issue occurs with this other phone. If it does then you should contact your carrier regarding this problem as it could be caused by a network issue, a faulty SIM card, or an account issue.

In case you are able to send and receive text messages with the other phone then proceed with troubleshooting the S9. Make sure to insert the SIM card back to your phone.

  • Make sure to check that the phone is getting a good network signal.
  • Check if the issue occurs when the phone is started in Safe Mode. If it doesn’t occur in this mode then the problem could be caused by an app you downloaded. Find out what app this is and uninstall it.
  • Backup your phone data then do a factory reset.

If the above steps fails to fix the problem then you should bring your phone to a service center and have it checked.

S9 Changing Message+ Notification Tone

Problem: I have Samsung S9. I have set up ‘Charming Bell’ as my default tone in my Message+ app (Sounds & Vibrations> Message Notifications), but all of the tones are changed to the “Facebook Pop” tone. I am able to customize for individual contacts, but I want ALL of the normal notifications to be what’s set up my in Message Notifications setup. I have volume, as I’m getting a notification tone, but not the tone I’ve requested in the Setup part of my phone.  How do I get my default tone to Charming Bell and not Facebook Pop?

Solution: You can change the notification tone of the Message+ app by opening the app then tap on the three dots on the upper right side of the screen. Tap on Customize then Tones then from here you can choose the tone that you prefer to use.

S9 Text Messages Out Of Order Fix

Problem: I was having a problem with my messages being out of order. I researched online and went into the phone store. Couldn’t figure it out. I just realized I had pinned some messages to the top and that was my problem. Just look at the top messages and make sure they are not pinned and the issue goes away
