S9 Group Messages Arrive As Individual Messages

Problem: With S9 I am not getting group messages as a group. Assume group of three, a,b and me. All posting done by a and b on the group message comes to me as a individual message from them . Even if I created the group, its the same. I tried the access point reset. No luck. Android version 8

Solution: To be able to use the group text feature of the phone make sure  that your phone has a working mobile data connection as this feature will use mobile data.

To send a group text just follow the steps listed below.

  • Tap the Messaging icon.
  • Tap the Compose icon.
  • Tap the Groups tab.
  • Tap the group you want to send the message to.
  • Tap All or manually select recipients.
  • Tap COMPOSE.
  • Enter message text in the Group conversation box.
  • When done, tap the Send icon.

If the reply that you are getting arrives as an individual text message and not as a group message then perform the additional troubleshooting steps listed below.

  • Check if the issue occurs in Safe Mode. If it doesn’t then the problem could be caused by an app you downloaded. Find out what app this is and uninstall it.
  • Backup your phone data then do a factory reset. After the reset has completed make sure  that your phone has the correct APN settings then check if the issue still occurs.

S9 Changing Text Bubble Colors

Problem: So the way my text message display changed overnight. Before I could choose what color talk bubble ppl had and make the background different colors. Now the background is only white or black if I put it in dark mode .I can no longer make ppl chat bubbles different colors. They are just gray and mine are a light blue. This is a issue for me in group chats I have for work. It is easier to know who is saying what when their chat bubbles are different colors. I thought maybe my phone software upgraded while I was sleeping but I looked and it said it’s up to date and had not updated since the 1st of May. I can not figure out how to change my texts to look the way they did before.

Solution: Your phone might have installed a new software update which has disabled this feature. To allow the changing of text bubble colors you can head out to the Samsung Theme Store and install a theme which will change the text bubble colors.

S9 Text Message Response Arrives Out Of Order

Problem: Everytime I send a text message and receive one back from a contact (no matter who it is, it happens to all of them), their response shows above the text I sent them. For example: Me: Hey Joe, how are you? His response will show above the text I sent him. Very frustrating. Thank you for the help!

Solution: The first thing that you need to do in this case is to make sure that the phone acquires the date and time settings from the network.

  • Go to Settings – General management – Date and time.
  • Ensure that Automatic date and time is on

You should also clear the cache and data of the text messaging app from the application manager as the problem is most likely caused by corrupt data in the app itself.

S9 Not Receiving Group Chats From Most iPhone Users

Problem: I have a samsung galaxy S9.  Some group chats I am in with iPhone users, I often only get 50% of the texts sent by them. It’s usually one person or the other, their texts will not come through the group chat, or individually. not sure what my android version is

Solution: To check if the problem is caused with an issue on your end you should perform the troubleshooting steps listed below.

  • Clear the cache and data of the text messaging app from the application manager.
  • Make sure that you have a good mobile data connection.
  • Check if the issue occurs when the phone is started in Safe Mode. In case the problem does not occur in this mode then it could be caused by an app you downloaded. Find out what app this is and uninstall it.
  • Try to backup your phone data and do a factory reset. Do this as a last resort.
