Solved Samsung Galaxy S8 Unsupported SD Card Error

The #Samsung #Galaxy #S8 is a flagship device released last year that’s still one of the best Android devices that you can get today. The phone has a 5.8 inch Super AMOLED display and uses the Snapdragon 835 / Exynos 8895 processor. One great feature of this device is that even if it has 64GB of internal storage space this can still be increased further by adding a microSD card. Although this is a solid performing phone there are instances when certain issues can occur which we will be addressing today. In this latest installment of our troubleshooting series we will tackle the Galaxy S8 unsupported SD card error issue and other related problems.

S8 Unsupported SD Card Error

Problem: My S8 had no issues accepting my sd card then one day my little girl got my phone… idk if she actually did anything to it or what happened but every since that day it hasn’t worked right… it says my sd card is unsupported and needs to be formatted, but when I try to format it, it goes to 20% then gives an error message… I have tried formatting the card on my pc… and used other cards but still the same unsupported sd card message… clearly it’s an issue with my phone.

Solution: The first thing that you will need to do in this case is to turn off the phone then remove the microSD card. Inspect the metal contacts of the SD card and if necessary clean it using a cloth. Reinsert the card then turn on the phone. If the issue still persists then the next step is to check if the computer can read the card. If it can’t be read then it’s time to get a new microSD card. If however the computer can read the card then you should backup the data stored in the card then format it using your computer. Reinsert the card back to your phone then check if it can be read.

In case the above steps fails to fix the problem then one last troubleshooting step to consider is a factory reset. This way you can check if the issue is caused by a software glitch. Make sure to backup your phone data before doing the reset. If the above steps fails to fix the problem then you will need to bring the phone to a service center and have it checked.

S8 Cannot Save To microSD Card

Problem: My Galaxy S8 recognizes my SD card, but nothing ever saves onto it. I can’t figure out how to turn on the “Save to SD card option” on just about anything. My phone has been running out of memory now because of it. This issue frustrated me to this point today because there is supposed to be an option on the Audible App to download the books to your SD card instead of your phone, but that option literally doesn’t even show up on my app, so I’m not sure if it’s a phone issue or the app, but since I can’t figure out how to make anything else save to the SD card automatically, I suppose it might be the phone.

Solution: The first thing that you will need to do in this case is to check if you are able to save data into the microSD card using your computer. Remove the card from your phone then let your have your computer read it. You will need a card reader to do this. Try  to copy a file from your computer to the card. In case the file can be copied then reinsert the card back to your phone.

Next, you will have to set the phone to save data to the card. Let’s start with the camera app.

  • Open the “Camera” app.
  • Select the settings gear icon located at the upper-right corner of the screen.
  • Scroll down and tap “Storage location“.
  • Select  “SD card” as desired.

To  move your files to the SD card

  • From any Home screen, tap Apps.
  • Tap My Files.
  • Tap Device storage.
  • Navigate inside your device storage to the files you want to move to your external SD card.
  • Tap MORE, then tap Edit.
  • Place a check next to the files you wish to move.
  • Tap MORE, then tap Move.
  • Tap SD memory card.
  • Navigate inside your external memory card to where you want to move the files or folders.
  • Tap Move to.
  • To copy the file, tap Paste here.

To transfer your Audible audiobooks to the SD card follow the steps listed below.

  • Open the Audible app
  • Tap the hamburger menu at the top corner of the screen, followed by Settings.
  • Tap Download Settings.
  • From the Download Settings page, tap Download Location.
  • Choose the SD card from the list of download locations.

S8 Not Reading microSD Card

Problem: My Samsung galaxy S8 memory port is faulty… when I insert a memory card into it, it shows memory is blank at the notification panel… hence I can’t access any file on the memory card.. but I put the same memory in other phones and it works fine… and when I go to settings to try to format or mount memory, it seems like the operation is being carried out but then stops and nothing happens

Solution: Try inserting a different microSD card in your phone then check if the issue still occurs. If it doesn’t then the problem could be caused by a software glitch. Try doing a factory reset and see if this fixes the problem. You will need to backup your phone data before doing the reset.

In case the phone still can’t read other microSD cards then this is most likely a hardware related problem already in which case you will need to bring the phone to a service center and have it checked.
